Peter Abbate and Iwen Chen Ignore Graffiti

This neon graffiti at the Fort Hamilton Station on 62nd Street has been there for a long time.

Today, the 68t Precinct police were at the station trying to recruit people to become NYPD officers. (See here)

Peter Abbate’s office is just four blocks away from this station at 6605 Fort Hamilton Pkwy. Iwen Chen is his chief-of-staff and should have taken care of this by now.

Why hasn’t Iwen Chen and Peter Abbate called to have this removed from the station? They don’t care!

Century’s in Bay Ridge Is Going to Be Demolished

The Commercial Observer reported that the Gingi family, who owns the former department store, Century 21 on 86th Street have filed papers to demolish the buildings, between 448 and 460 86th Street.

See Department of Buildings document

So after the permit is approved, 86th Street will be a wreck for awhile. And then there will be new beautiful retail buildings to revive the shopping area.

The article says they are going to build Class A retail development. A plan filed with NYC, but not approved says the building will change from a UG 10 Department Store to UG 6 Retail Store. (See here) This will divide the huge department store into smaller stores.

The owners plan on pre-leasing the property to new retailers and will announce who will take the space in the next five to six months.

RIP Diane Hunt – Bay Ridge

May be an image of 1 person and jewelry

Diane Hunt, a woman who loved Bay Ridge, died on February 17, 2022.

Hunt organized charity events for the St. Baldric Foundation.

DeeDee is known for being outspoken and truthful. She believed in respect for the police and common sense politics.

One thing people probably don’t know about Hunt is that her son, Jimmy was murdered by his friend in 1988. (See story) DeeDee belonged to a group, Parents for Murdered Children, who help keep murderers in jail and they fought against them receiving parole.

On 9/11/01, Diane worked as a secretary at Citibank in Manhattan. When the towers fell, a female officer assisted her. Diane found the officer and had an award made for her. (See story here)

Read the story here

Dee Dee loved flowers. She loved dogs and cats and always shared posts about missing animals.

.

On Saturday, March 26th there will be a memorial at Christ Church on 73st and Ridge Boulevard at 11:00 am.

Rest in peace with Jimmy. Prayers for her daughter and grandchildren.

Coney Island Crochet Artist Created Ukraine’s Flag

Calvin Lee, a crochet artist in Brooklyn created a blue and yellow flag to show support to Ukraine and his Ukrainian neighbors in Coney Island. It’s such a kind thing to do!

See Calvin Lee’s video on TikTok here (you don’t need an account)

Lee crochets when he is traveling on the train. He created hundred of hats to give out in NYC to homeless people. I’m surprised there aren’t any stories about this thoughtful Brooklynite.

See more of Calvin Lee’s installations here.
