RIP Rami Elsuwi

On Thursday evening around 6:30 pm, Rami Elsuwi called his wife when he was riding home from his job in Williamsburg. He was a passenger in a hired car with a driver he used almost every day.

The driver took the Belt Parkway. The driver was supposed to be taking Rami to a property that he was thinking of purchasing. Source:

https://nypost.com/2026/01/12/us-news/nyc-passenger-jumps-out-of-moving-livery-car-in-apparent-suicide-on-belt-parkway-police

The news reported that Rami exited the vehicle through the back window of the car, near the 92nd Street pedestrian walk in Bay Ridge around 9:00 pm.

“When Elsuwi did not arrive home in Bay Ridge and did not answer his phone, his wife said she grew worried. She used the Find My iPhone feature, which led her to the side of the Belt Parkway.” Source: https://shorturl.at/1xpZp

Later, the driver told Rami Elsuwi’s wife that he did not know that Rami left the car until he got to the destination and Rami wasn’t in the car. See article: https://shorturl.at/fM6DH

How could he not tell that a man 6’3″ climbed out of his vehicle? Rami was tall – 6’3″ so something is strange about him going out the window of a SUV while on the Belt Parkway. There was no sounds from Rami opening the window, to him pushing his body out of the window and the wind coming through the car from an open back window?

The NY Post called this “an apparent suicide.” Source:

Rami’s wife said that Rami was a devout Muslim and didn’t drink, smoke or use drugs.

Something is missing from this story.

The news wrote that Rami worked in sports medicine and rehabilitation. He was a physical and occupational therapist.

The newspapers wrote that Rami hit his head on the guard rail. He suffered severe head trauma and died on the Belt Parkway. None of the papers explain why Rami was exiting the vehicle through the window on the Belt Parkway.

Rami Elsuwi was only 43-years-old. He had a 3-year-old son and a wife that was eight months pregnant.

If the driver said he didn’t know that Rami wasn’t in the car until he arrived at his destination then how did the news report this: The 69-year-old Uber driver stayed at the scene. From:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/man-dies-falling-window-moving-160227479.html

Tomorrow (Saturday, January 10th) is the service at Beit El-Maqdis Islamic Center at 6206 6th Avenue at 12:15 pm in Brooklyn. Rami will be buried in New Jersey:

Prayers for Rami’s family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Bay Ridge Residents Share High Gas Bills

Bay Ridge resident are sharing that they are seeing high gas and electric bills this month.

Delivery and supply charges are up! Bills varied from some residents say the bill was a little bit more than $100 more, to some residents saying their bill is several hundred dollars more.

Increases from 2025 – 2028 were approved for gas and electric in NY by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC)

https://www.nyc.gov/assets/omb/downloads/pdf/tax/methodology-2025-10.pdf

Some Brooklyn residents were relieved when they realized they have estimated bills, rather than the actual bill (it says it on the statement).

Both Con Edison and National Grid have energy affordability programs. See if you qualify:

b) Keyspan’s Programs:

c) NYS has HEAP – Heating Assistance (HEAP)

d) Energy Advisor: https://www.energyadvisor.ny.gov

e) One time bill payment help – I have no idea if this works, but I heard of it:

Sewer Thieves on 72nd St Between 13th & 14th Avenues in Dyker Heights Were Arrested

On Tuesday night, around 10:40 pm, two guys opened a manhole cover on 72nd Street between 13th and 14th Avenues in Dyker Heights. The men went down into the sewer. News:

The men returned at 2:30 am on Wednesday and police arrested them.

Wilmur Rodriguez Carrasquel, 42, faces criminal trespassing charges. Robinson Daviel, faces trespassing charges and possession of burglary tools.Source:

https://shorturl.at/joF4L

Last month, on December 6th a wonderful Dyker Heights residents saw one thief jump down into the sewer. She called the police and the 68th Precinct was slow to respond and then didn’t do anything to help. The Dyker Heights resident waited for hours to see the thief come out of the manhole. Info:

In April 2025, three thieves entered a sewer on 17th Avenue and 82nd Street. They were trying to steal money and jewelry. They were arrested. Info:

Politicians have failed to communicate with Dyker Heights about these thieves. Alexa Aviles is the NYC Council representative – she doesn’t know she represents this block. Andrew Gounardes is the senator and he’s too busy playing on social media to address any real issues.

Why do we have local leaders if they aren’t telling residents what is going on?

Man Shot at Columbia Presbyterian in Park Slope

A man with a knife was shot at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital’s emergency room in Park Slope (this used to be called Methodist Hospital). See story here: https://shorturl.at/ceFtI

The 62-year-old man barricaded himself in a room with a knife and other people. The police tried to tase him. They shot him and he died.

Strangely, this hospital has a metal detector that everyone (even emergency room patients) have to walk through or go through on a gurney to get into the hospital.

Do You Have Anything to Say About the Rezoning of 9201 – 4th Avenue? Meeting 1/8/26

Community Board 10 is pretty bad about relaying information.

As you can see the address of 9201 – 4th Avenue is “accidently” missing 4th Avenue.

This is the building they are planning for the area:

At the meeting they said they wanted to put a grocery story in this building as well!

See the Ulurp: https://zap.planning.nyc.gov/projects/2025K0219

These meetings happen in the Winter because they don’t want people to show up.
