March 31, 2022Supreme Court Justice Patrick McAllister – Threw Out the Super Gerrymandered District Maps in Brooklyn

WOW I thought that the district maps were a done deal!
Thankfully an ethical judge heard the case and threw out the the new district maps which super gerrymandered our district.

When Senator Andrew Gounardes saw the map above, he did nothing to change it.

Andrew Gounardes always wants to talk about the Constitution and Democracy. Gounardes used to pointed out how the Republicans gerrymandered our district. When he had a chance to do better, why didn’t Gounardes do better?
Andrew Gounardes thought it was okay that he benefitted from a super gerrymandered district. That’s a sign that a politician is in office too long.
Gerrymandering is a form of corruption. During the last election, Gounardes’ wife Melanie sent me an e-mail where she wrote that she doesn’t understand what Andrew does. (See here) Melanie, Democrats tried to limit a community so your husband could win an election and Andrew was silent about it. He’s not helping anyone in Brooklyn, which deserves a fair election.
Brooklyn – please vote out every Democrat who stayed silent about these maps. Our elected representatives knew the Republicans did this so we should have seen them be professional and do the right thing for our community.

Most disappointing was seeing that Mathylde Frontus went along with this plan for redistricting – her district wasn’t that much different, but she knew ours was.
Frontus definately shouldn’t run any more redistricting forums because she didn’t believe we deserved a fair district.

Even though I don’t agree with Frontus on many things, I thought she would vote for Brooklyn. When I saw she approved the maps, I was angry because I thought we elected a better woman.

Councilman Justin Brannan spent $50,000 of our district funds for NY Law School “to teach people about redistricting.” (Source – Page 100 – 7th Line) Can we get our money back?

Since the funding did not “assure” that the new districts were fairer, equitable and representative, can we have our money back NY Law School?

District Leader, Chris McCreight made a little noise about redistricting in August. The Way Back Machine saved the deleted site. (See here)
Why was McCreight concerned with redistricting? Because Chris McCreight wanted a new district where he could run for office. McCreight quickly deleted the page below and never spoke out about the super gerrymandered district.

Equally silent was District Leader, Tori Kelly Burhans. Why didn’t Tori Burnhas speak out for woman in this district?

Iwen Chen never spoke out against these unfair districts. Our community is not divided by culture – we are one Brooklyn – no matter what sneaky politicians do. When Irene Chu failed to speak out against these district maps, she showed she doesn’t believe anyone in Brooklyn deserves a fair election. We don’t need another pol who just wants to occupy the seat.

Around 4:00 pm today, there was a fire on the fourth floor of 510 – 82nd Street. (See video here)
Finally happening, a giant fire in Bay Ridge and thankfully because we have no enforcement, all of the fire hydrants are blocked illegally by cars. ? #bayridge pic.twitter.com/3O52WnHf02

It’s good it wasn’t a huge fire because a Ridgite noted that the hydrants were are blocked by cars all the time in this area.

March 31, 2022Assaults Were Up 225% in Bay Ridge Last Week

The good news is there were no rapes or murders in Bay Ridge this week.
The bad news is that 13 people were assaulted in our area and that’s up 225% from last year (when only four people were assault this week last year)
As you see from the map above, there are only 12 dots. One location on Bay Ridge Avenue had two assaults on March 27th – one at 5:00 am and another at 6:00 am.

Interestingly, almost half of the assaults occurred in the early morning from 1:00 am – 7:00 am.

Most of the afternoon assaults occurred in more high traffic Avenues and street, such as shopping areas, like 86th Street.

From the NYPD Crimestats, Saturday is the day when most assaults happen – none happened in our area on Wednesdays!

To see these Crimestats – go here and pull down Brooklyn South, then pull down 68th Precinct (if you are looking at this at a later date, the stats will have changed….this is for the week 3/21 – 3/27)

The timeline is showing assaults in our area from 1993 – 2022 for this week.

March 30, 2022Robbery at Brooklyn Harvest Market – Employees Run After Thief and Got the Merchandise Back!

Since rules in NYC are lax, many businesses are experiencing robberies. In Bay Ridge, people are sharing on social media that they see thieves brazenly walk into Walgreens and Rite Aid and walk out of the store without paying.
Tonight, Brooklyn Harvest Market at 8102 3rd Avenue was robbed.
A Ridgite shared a video of two Brooklyn Harvest Market employees going after the thief and getting the store’s merchandise back. (Video here)
Our area and throughout NYC, there are a a lot of sources for free food for those in need. Sadly, items stolen from stores are often sold on social media (Facebook has groups selling items locally for a cheaper price than the store).
They were lucky that the thief wasn’t armed and they didn’t get hurt.

March 30, 2022RIP Verrazzano Bridge Jumper – March 29, 2022

A woman in her 20’s jumped from the Verrazzano Bridge on Tuesday.
The woman’s car was left on the Brooklyn side – lower level of the bridge near 12:00 pm. (Story here)

Video footage from the bridge confirmed that the woman climbed over and jumped.
We feel terrible that this woman felt it was her only option. She’s with God and no longer suffering.
RIP young woman. Prayers for the family and friends of this woman. They will be devastated by this.
A body was found in South Jersey today – not a lot of info (See here)
No one in Bay Ridge has mentioned this incident.

March 30, 2022Bravo Aired the The Real Housewives Against MAIMO Staff Fundraiser Baseball Game

This week, The Real Housewives of New Jersey, a reality television show on BRAVO, aired the episode they filmed in Brooklyn last August.

Delores Catania from the Real Housewives NJ organized a fundraiser baseball game against the Maimonides All Stars (doctors and staff) from Maimonides Medical Center.

Catania has been raising money from Maimonides for several years after she had a breast cancer scare.

The game was held in August 2021 at Maimonides Park in Coney Island, where the Brooklyn Cyclones play.

While the doctors initially started the game out well, the newspaper here reported that Team Housewives defeated the Maimonides Allstars 10-6.

I think this is a former Brooklyn politician.
The game sold a lot of tickets and raised over $200,000 for Maimonides Hospital. It’s nice to see reality television stars reaching out and helping in Brooklyn!
