Matilda The Musical in Bay Ridge This Weekend

Growing up, my Mom took me to see shows at local high schools and colleges. I loved seeing the older students perform. My Mom was able to afford tickets for the whole family and I have good memories of so many shows!
This weekend Matilda will be performed at Fontbonne High School.
Get your tickets online for $12 or $15 at the door. https://m.signupgenius.com/..

May 18, 2022Captain Tolson Said Let the Protesters Pass – Don’t Yell Out From the Bar At Them
The Palestinian Protest this past weekend did not have a permit, BUT Captain Tolson said they didn’t need one. I always thought that protests needed a permit if they were marching in the street and using amplification, but the rules must have changed.
Many of the Palestinians didn’t seem to be aware that the neighborhood had another parade (the Norwegian Parade) and another protest at the Army Base. The police were directing the protesters and they wanted full reign of the neighborhood.
Captain Tolson asked people not to yell out anything and just let the protesters pass. During the Palestinian Protest, some people at the bar were yelling at the protesters. Then the protesters yelled back and that causes chaos. The Salty Dog had to get everyone in and close the door.
Most people at the protest were there to Free, free, free Palestine (always 3x’s) Some were chanting: “Whose streets? Our streets.” And there were a handful of people there to be annoying to the police. The 68th Precinct officers were professional as always.
No politicians attended this protest. Brannan was walking in the Norwegian Parade on 3rd Avenue at the same time. Why didn’t Senator Andrew Gounardes show up? Before the parade, local politicians should have contacted the parade organizers and made them aware of the other events in the area, as well as talked about PO Moira’s flag (or removed the flag for safety for the day).
This last video shows how much smaller the protest was this year.

May 18, 202268th Precinct Shared This & Tonight’s Meeting

The Assistant District Attorney’s staff is speaking at the 68th Precinct tonight. You can watch by clicking on the video below.
Captain Tolson gave an Officer of the Month to Officer Aziz, the fearless police officer, who ran out of the precinct when he heard gun shots at 7Eleven on April 4th. He held the perp and he was arrested.
Parents are frustrated because of the safety issues that go unchecked in Bay Ridge. One man said that he and his family have almost been hit five times by reckless drivers.

Captain Tolson talked about crime being up due this year due to people being outside, compared to last year when people were indoors for Covid. He said robberies are down 11%. Tolson forgot to tell Bay Ridge that crimes in the category of “Other Sex Crimes” are up 300% *See chart below.
Captain Tolson said the police are working on Dyker Beach Park, and dealing with reckless driving. The Captain said he gave a guy a warning about reving his engine and the guy continued to do it. Tolson ran after him and the guy drove away.
Someone asked if they should expect a response after writing to a NCO. They said they tried several times and didn’t receive any responses. The Captain said that there are 133,000 residents and it’s not always possible.
Crimestat this week:

Captain Tolson said he was talking questions from Twitter and Facebook, but he didn’t. I asked about Other Sex Crimes (see above 1 last week and 8 in the last 28 days). He didn’t take any questions from Twitter or Facebook, but the Captain kept pretending he was.

People at the meeting also felt that Captain Tolson wasn’t answering questions or taking their concerns seriously. Street safety is a real concern here, but month after month nothing is done.

May 18, 2022Third False Bomb Threat at Fort Hamilton HS

** Update: Arrest made in the bomb threats – See here **
Another day, another bomb threat at Ft. Hamilton High School.
On Monday and Tuesday, the school was evacuated and the students stayed outside (or went home.)
Early this morning around 8:30 am, Ft. Hamilton High School received a call saying someone was dropping a bomb. The school was not evacuated. The NYPD had a bomb-sniffing dog and they checked the entire school. This must have been stressful for some of the students as the waited to hear the school was safe.
By 10:15 am, it was shared that the Emergency Services Unit checked the building and it was clear.
