Dandy Lion’s Outdoor Seating Removed – Quaglione

The Dandy Lion Cafe moved in with Mr. Chips on May 21st and their ourdoor seating remained on 89th Street and 3rd Avenue.
On June 15th, John Quaglione put in a request to have it removed with 311. (See here)

Justin Brannan must be busy with the upcoming election that he didn’t notice Quaglione’s request (if Brannan did, he would have tweeted a response).
Quaglione took the picture of the structure being removed on the 6/24, but didn’t post it until 6/25 with a thank you to the DOT.

Wow times have changed. Quaglione’s account is filled with problems he called in for Bay Ridge. (See here, here and here)

June 25, 2022Alpine Theater Lowers Prices For Seniors

While inflation is driving up prices everywhere, Alpine Movie Theater announced that they are rolling back the prices for tickets for seniors. Now seniors will be able to go to any show at the Alpine for $7.00 a ticket. That’s a very nice thing to do!
I went to the Alpine on Tuesday after not being there since the pandemic started. The theater’s makeover is beautiful! Everything was new, fresh and looked fantastic. The ventilation system is working well and they had the air conditioner is very cool (bring a sweater or a hoodie).
The Alpine Movie Theater is at 6817 5th Avenue.

June 25, 2022Bay Ridge Animal Lovers Save the Day

When a Ridgite saw someone abandoned a guinea pig in a cage outside of the pet store on 5th Avenue between 84th and 85th Street on Friday morning, they took a picture and shared it to the community on social media.
Animal Lovers in Bay Ridge discussed it and one jumped into action to help the small animal.
Twenty minutes late, one nice woman in our community is at the store to save retrieve the guinea pig and bring it to a rescue.
When she got there, the cage was gone and she shared these pictures.

Thank you to all of our good neighbors who care about animals and especially Jackie for taking action so fast. We are lucky to have such good neighbors.
Don’t leave animals on the street – if you adopted them and they brought you happiness, rehome them. Jennifer said she could help people in our community who need to rehome a pet. You can contact her here.
Update: The Brooklyn Pet store shared:

June 25, 2022Andrew Gounardes Called the Supreme Court Judges Terrorists on Social Media – Careless

Senator Andrew Gounardes has several Twitter accounts.
Andrew uses @agounardes to appeal to his liberal base. This tweet is inappropriate.
To call someone a fascist is fine. But calling the Supreme Court judges terrorists on social media is not only careless, it’s dangerous. Gounardes should know better than to use social media this way.

June 25, 2022Supreme Court Overturned Roe v. Wade. Abortion is Still Legal in NY

People are divided on this issue – they always have been.
The Supreme Court’s decision today does not affect any NY’ers – abortion continues to be legal here, despite Roe v. Wade being overturned.
Most NY politicians are using the Scotus decision as a political point and aren’t telling people that abortion will continue to be legal in NYS.
This is the pathetic part:

Sadly, the Bay Ridge Democrats don’t have one women that is able to speak up and tell these men that it is pointless to gather outside the CLOSED office of Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis and take a picture.
e

If Max Rose had a bus and was taking people from Bay Ridge to Malliotakis’ Staten Island office next week when she was in, he wouldn’t be playing politics. But Rose doesn’t even want to speak with Malliotakis – he just wants to take a photo standing in front of her office.
Max Rose must think that he can come to Bay Ridge at 5:00 pm, take the photo and then grab dinner in Bay Ridge with his buddies. Andrew Gounardes‘ name is on the flyer for this rally, but he didn’t attend it.
On Sunday, Rose is going to Malliotakis’ closed Staten Island office to rally again. (See here) Two cowardly visits from the ousted politician. I think these men are afraid of Malliotakis.
Max Rose didn’t tell anyone that NY has a fund to assist women from out-of-state with getting an abortion (the news said that last year 300 women from out-of-state were able to get abortions in NYS through with financial assistance from the fund). (See here)
Britney Ramps DeBarros did:

Organizations, like the Urban Steam Lab in our community also wanted to take action. (Urban Steam Lab is at 7912 5th Avenue):

Max Rose is trying to get attention for his election, but most people in this area aren’t interested in Rose.
Many of Rose’s former supporters are supporting Britney Ramos de Barros in the primary. She called out Rose for the rally – see here.
The court’s ruling today will hurt poor women in states which abortions will be illegal. If the women don’t have access to abortion legally, they will seek clinics where they can get an abortions – even if the clinics are not staffed with doctors.
The news suggested that the Supreme Court may overturn same sex marriage or birth control. Politicians who are concerned should be taking action – not standing outside the closed office of another politician to take a photo!

June 24, 2022What Jamie DeJesus Didn’t Tell Bay Ridge About The School At Nathan’s In Dyker Heights

Jamie DeJesus is a writer for Brooklyn Reporter. He wrote a limited article about 100 seats being added to schools for children with special needs in our community. Isn’t that sad that an article needs to be written like that?
Wouldn’t it have been awesome if DeJesus took Brannan’s press release about these seats and took the view of “What happens if 103 seats are needed?” The truth is those 3 students would be told there is no room at their local school and they would need to go to another school. That’s what happens now to many families.
Jamie DeJesus left out a lot of important information about the new school being built at 650 – 86th Street – formerly, Nathan’s.
DeJesus is a father, but he didn’t write about the safety issues that are a main concern for many parents in Bay Ridge. (See here)
When Community Board 10 members tried to discuss this at a meeting, they were told that a safety report would done and changes would be made, but a safety report with these changes has not been shown to the community. Not one politician has addressed these concerns.
Jamie DeJesus also failed to tell the community how this deal went down. Papers outside our community wrote about the deal. (Info here and here) The person deciding where a public school belongs in our community doesn’t have a child in public school!
A second property on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge has also been purchased with the same seller. Why are lobbyists deciding where schools are placed in our community?
Previously, Brannan said there was no deals behind the school. Megan McGoldrick was first to write about it for the Brooklyn Eagle (See here)
Jamie DeJesus also failed to write about the hotel that is being built next to Nathans. Councilman Brannan told this community that a hotel wasn’t being built next to the school, but it is. (See here) People are concerned that this will change into a homeless shelter as many hotels have in Brooklyn. A recent bill in NYS was made into law that makes it possible for this to happen. (Andrew Gounardes voted for this) (Info here)
DeJesus doesn’t live in this community, so he isn’t taking the time to interview parents or tell us the real issues that are happening. Politicians pressers reign in our area – that’s why I write here.
