Bay Ridge Rocks – Cute Caterpillar in the Wild

Someone took a lot of time in care in making this adorable caterpillar because they knew it would make someone smile!
We all oohh’ed and ahhhh’ed over it, but we put it back because we know this caterpillar is going to bring a child in our neighborhood pure joy when they find it – which looks like this!
We have seen two children scream with delight on 3rd Avenue when they found a painted rock!
Nice work, Bay Ridge Rocks!
Bay Ridge Rocks will be at the Fort Hamilton Library on 95th Street and 4th Avenue on Friday, August 19th, if you want to paint rocks with them!

August 10, 2022Goodbye Mr. Chips in Bay Ridge…Or Maybe Not?

Everyone had been noticing that Mr. Chips hasn’t been open.
We heard that Dandy Lion had moved in, but unfortunately, they won’t be taking over the diner either.
Yesterday, we saw the small diner was put up for sale.
Maybe someone will take it over and bring life back into Mr. Chips Restaurant again? If you are interested in purchasing it, contact Jim here.

August 10, 2022Justin Brannan Thinks Brad Lander Paying Even Less Property Tax This Year is Equity

Councilman Brannan likes to make graphics to pat himself on the back, but they don’t accurately portray what’s going on in NYC.

The old Brannan would have laughed at a politician throwing breadcrumbs at a community that has been overcharged in taxes for years.

Brad Lander already had low taxes. The rebate makes his property taxes under $4000 for the year.

Why would NYC give a property tax discount to people living in Brad Lander’s district when the NYC Property Tax Commission has already ruled that they are paying too little tax? That doesn’t make sense.
Senator Luis Sepulveda wrote Senate Bill S9399. (Seen here)

Assembly member Stacey Pheffer Amato carried the bill in the Assembly. (Seen here)
Is Brannan saying he worked on Sepulveda and Amato’s bill?
Strangely Tori Burnhas, the Chief of Staff of Senator Gounardes said at a Community Board 10 Meeting that Gounardes worked on the bill. We don’t believe that is true because we have seen the tax rebates for the rest of NYS. (Seen here)
If Andrew Gounardes worked on the bill, why would NYC home owners receive so much less than the rest of New York State?

In districts where taxes are a lot higher in NYC, why didn’t the politicians do something to help?
We have been paying higher taxes for too long because these two friends aren’t representing the community well, but acting like they have.

Some people are smoking week on the R train to Manhattan in the morning. The trains are empty so they don’t think it will affect the few passengers in the car.

August 9, 2022Article About How Judges Are Chosen in Brooklyn Mentions Bay Ridge District Leader, Chris McCreight

Bay Ridge District Leader, Christopher McCreight was named in an article about the strange way that Supreme Court judges are chosen in Brooklyn. (See here)

Eighteen people explored a run for Supreme Court this year in Brooklyn. (Source) This is a coveted position because the judge’s salary is $210,000 annually.

District Leaders met and it was narrowed down to twelve people. (See here) The City Publication claimed that the choices were already predetermined at an earlier meeting. (See here) Anyone who reads that article will understand how corruption can happen easily with the existing process used to choose judges.
A Democrat from Sunset Park stood up and called for a roll call vote. (Go Katie Walsh!) They turned off her microphone.
Frank Seddio, who is now a District Leader (LOL), got into a heated argument that was recorded and shared widely on social media. (Story here)
Interestingly the article states that, Bay Ridge Female District Leader, Joanne Seminara has not taken any money from people seeking judge positions (or from their family members). (Source) Neither Seminara or the male district leader counterpart, Mark Hanna have not spoken out on social media.
We also haven’t heard from any politicians in our area: Andrew Gounardes, Justin Brannan and Max Rose on this issue.
