July 29, 2022Why Did Andrew Gounardes Wait So Long to Look at Safety at the 86th Street School Site?

Senator Andrew Gounardes shared the picture above and wrote on social media today that he looked at the safety concerns around the new school on 86th Street with the Department of Transportation today.
This location was named a location for a school in February 2019 – why did it Senator Gounardes so long to look at the safety of the area? (Source)

In 2019, the local paper printed about the deal behind the school. (Source) When people asked on social media about the property, Councilman Brannan said there was no deal. Brannan also said a hotel was not being built next to the school. (See here) Avid Hotel is being built there. (See here)
This January, some of the details of that property came out in a publication outside of our district. (Source) At that point, we should have seen Senator Gounardes and experienced members of CB 10 take action for the community.

Senator Gounardes should have investigated the school situation when he was aware that corruption happened. His friendship with Justin Brannan interferes with his position to speak up for our community.
A second school property on 5th Avenue was owned by the owner of Nathans. here was absolutely no reason that deal should have continued.
I wrote to Community Board 10 and they were annoyed that I asked them about it. Some people don’t think the community has the right to question things when corruption happens in the community.
We should have seen CB 10 address the issues in the article because the decision where a school was being placed in our community should not have been made by a man, who sent his child to private school. How do we know that? On June 5th, Andrew Gounardes posted a picture of himself with his friend and his child at her school on Twitter.

July 28, 2022David Yassky Explained to Brannan How to Get Universal Health Coverage

David Yassky is running for the NYS Senate – to represent Bay Ridge/Sunset Park and Downtown Brooklyn.
Yassky’s a graduate of Princeton University and Yale Law School.
Councilman Justin Brannan was disingenuous with his tweet yesterday. He purposely didn’t use the @ symbol so he could rally the Brannanites, but not let David Yassky know he was referring to him.
Yassky noticed the snarky tweet and he didn’t shy away from it.
David Yassky answered Brannan on how universal coverage could be achieved and explained why the socialist way to healthcare isn’t the best. His answer was informative and straightforward.
Why didn’t Councilman Brannan know this?
Councilman Brannan is friends with Gounardes. If David Yassky wins, he isn’t going to be silent like Gounardes is. He’s ready to talk frankly to Brannan…..and that’s what we need.

July 28, 2022Brittany Ramos DeBarros….If Only Andrew Gounardes Didn’t Vote to Gerrymander Our District

Brittany Ramos DeBarros was on Channel 1 tonight. She said that she is able to speak to the everyday people because she understand the struggles that working class people go through because she and her family struggled.

Brittany Ramos DeBarros was in the army from 2011 – 2019. She went to Afghanistan and served as a strategic communication officer. When Brittany came home from the Afghanistan, she realized soldiers were lied to. She became an activist for veterans. Today, a bill for Veteran’s was voted down in Congress and Brittany was upset by it.

Brittany believes that she can energize many different types of community because she represents many groups of people. She was sincere and likeable. If you want to speak with her, she will be in Bay Ridge on Sunday:

When Brittany was asked about Max Rose, she didn’t talk about Max Rose at all, she spoke about corruption and problems in the community that she was outraged by. Very classy and professional move! Brittany used that time to passionately speak out against poor living conditions for families with low incomes and veteran health care too.
Brittany could have spoken about Rose – she campaigned for him last time. Max Rose became the typical politician and was afraid to speak out against corruption in our district. Britney isn’t afraid.
Brittany Ramos DeBarros chances at winning this seat were hurt by her own party. Senator Andrew Gounardes voted for district maps that gerrymandered our district, even though Gounardes spoke out against gerrymandering for years.

The maps that Gounardes voted in favor of were was so bad that the courts ruled they were unconstitutional and ordered a master to remake the lines. (Info)

When the Master redid the congressional district map, he put more Republicans in the district. Too bad Andrew Gounardes didn’t have the integrity to do the job right, so that the district was fair.
For more information about Brittany, check her website here.

July 28, 2022RIP Phil Guarino – Queens Man Found in Bklyn

RIP Phil Guarino. First, his black 2020 Mercedes was found in Queens and he was still missing.

Then his body was found in Dyker Heights earlier this week. He was only 28-years old.

Guarino was a construction worker, but recently left that job to take a city job.
Friends of Phil Guarino shared messages on Facebook when they hadn’t heard from him. They knew something was wrong when Phil didn’t return home to take care of his dog.

People who knew Guarino remembered him as being a good person.

The Daily News put the story on the front page of their paper with an awful title. Imagine how shocked family and friends of Phil Gurino must be. : (

Hopefully, the police will share a picture of the perp, so he can be caught. That may be difficult because it happened at night and surveillance videos taken at night are not as good as those taken in the daytime.

RIP Phil Guarino. Prayers for his family and friends.
