August 2, 2022The Brooklyn Firefly Is In Scott’s Pizza Tour

Scott’s Pizza Tour has a bus and takes people to four of the best pizza places in NYC on each tour. They just added The Brooklyn Firefly on 3rd Avenue and 70th Street in Bay Ridge to their tour.
I’m surprised that they haven’t added more pizza places in our area. Here’s their map A lot of the places with great pizza, may be too small or not as modern as The Brooklyn Firefly.
The cost of the tour is $79 and includes the bus and the cost of the pizza. They start at one place in Manhattan and then travel to three other pizzerias in another borough. (See tour info)

Interestingly, Scott shared that the pizza oven at Patty’s Pizzeria (which closed) is for sale. Some Bay Ridge business may want to purchase this coal oven if it was the right price.

August 2, 2022Republicans Rallying in Coney Island 8/3

The Republican Party has become more organized as they see that bail laws have hurt NYC.
Inna Vernikov is a powerhouse down at that end of Coney Island. Why isn’t she on their flyer? Not only has she shown she cares about the community, but people are finding Inna and her office very responsive. She may be a Republican, but she takes Democrats calls.

August 2, 2022David Yassky Explained What’s Missing from the Bail Law – Andrew Gounardes Blamed the Pandemic for Crime

David Yassky and Andrew Gounardes debated virtually. Yassky shared the link to the debate – Andrew Gounardes did not!
Schnepps Media had two amazing moderators for the debate – their own Stephen Witt and the amazing, Jane Hanson. Hanson exposed what’s missing with the bail law. Gounardes is at fault. He thinks he is doing a good job. David Yassky explained what could be added to reform the law.
Gounardes thinks he is doing a good job and is not willing to change the bail law. Mayor Eric Adams has asked repeatedly for help with this and Andrew has refused.
In February 2019, after a woman was sexually assaulted at the 95th Street train station, I contacted Senator Gounardes. Various media said this was due to the reforms made to the bail law. (See here and here) I found Andrew Gounardes to be disconnected and unsympathetic to the woman.
Gounardes wanted this new district. Andrew voted to gerrymander Brooklyn. Andrew is not the incumbent for most of the district – just 20%. Yassky has led in 30% of the district. He is known for turning around a school when he was a councilman (PS 8).
Stephen Witt made an excellent point about this new district being a waterfront district. We saw Gounardes accepted money from Kathy Hochul’s big donors. Is this why they are interested in our district?
Andrew Gounardes was not able to handle our waterfront. Initially, when Gounardes ran for office, he had big plans for the Shore Road bike path area, but Andrew didn’t do anything and the area has not been maintained well.
.
Yassky had answers. Gounardes thinks he is doing enough.

August 1, 2022Erik Frankel is Running for NYC Council to Represent District 38 – Bay Ridge & Sunset Park

I saw Erik Frankel announced he is running for NYC Council.
Yes I am running for City Council dist 38. Complaining about our politicians is pointless, we will replace them next year. Primary is less than a year away, we have alot to do.#elections2023#nyc_council38 #Brooklyn#politics#rebootbrooklyn pic.twitter.com/Q5o9hLuQsO
— Erik Frankel (@ErikFrankel) July 27, 2022
We are seeing people throwing their hat into the 2023 election so early because current politicians are not able to take on the hard issues – like taxes! Plus lobbyists are winning in Brooklyn!
Erik is business owner in Sunset Park. He owns Frankels on 39th Street and 3rd Avenue. The store sells construction boots and work gear. The buildings property tax was $40,000!!! (Story here)
We often hear politicians say that they support small businesses, but do they really? If they did, they would have started a court case for all of these businesses being unfairly taxed.
When Erik went to get help from elected politicians in his area, he couldn’t get any. He took out a loan to pay the property tax! Then he decided to run for office.
The more I read about Erik Frankel, the more I wanted to know!
In the Brooklyn Paper, Erik is quoted saying: “I feel that it’s necessary to run for City Council because I can no longer sit back and watch self-serving politicians and community activists overrule the interests of the community for their own personal gains.”
If the new NYC Council districts go through, Bay Ridge may have the opportunity to vote for this down-to-earth father, who wants to represent our community.

Angelo Amato’s new short film, “Coming Home” was filmed in our area. Amato wrote, produced and directed the filmed.
It’s a good film, but sad. It captures all the emotions of a family after the death of the patriarch.
Congratulations Angelo! He was named a quarter finalist at The Big Apple Film Festival. You can watch the film here: https://youtu.be/3CX7uzs_a5A

August 1, 2022Max Rose Finally Speaks Out Against the Changes to Bail Law Which Andrew Gounardes Voted For

When Senator Andrew Gounardes voted in favor of bail reform, Max Rose was silent.
Now Max Rose wants Kathy Hochul to fix the bail law. Hochul doesn’t live in NYC, so she doesn’t care. (See article)

Max Rose stood by politicians who watched this city fall. Mayor Adams is running all over and trying new things too stop crime. The bail reform champions won’t help the mayor.
We asked Andrew Gounardes, the champion of bail reform law to change the law when a woman in Bay Ridge was sexually assaulted in the bathroom at the 95th Street station. Newspapers pointed to the changes to the bail reform. (See article)
Recently, Gounardes said he would not rescind bail reform. Gounardes blames the increase in crime to Covid-19. The first case of Covid-19 in NYC was March 1st. (Source) The sexual assault at the 95th Street station happened the first week of February 2019.

August 1, 2022Dear Sochie Nnaemeka, NYS Director of the Working Families Party, WHY DO YOU KEEP CHOOSING the wrong candidates for Brooklyn?

Dear Sochie Nnaemeka,
I don’t understand the Working Families Party anymore.
Years ago, I used to vote for the candidates under the Working Families Party. Now I can’t because you keep choosing the wrong candidate.
Is your Brooklyn representative researching candidates? Maybe he or she just doesn’t understand politics and you need to teach them!
These have been the Working Families Party Picks in Brooklyn and here’s what is wrong with them.
Andrew Gounardes – Did anyone look at the money that he took in or what organizations were donating to him? Obviously not! This new district is the result of gerrymandering – meaning Gounardes didn’t want the Republicans in his district any longer. Info here.

Justin Brannan – It’s easy to check NYC’s lobbyists and political candidates. If they are with lobbyists, they aren’t with their community. See here and here. This happened under Justin.
Finally, you supported Mathylde Frontus’ opponent, an out of district politician. That man disappeared after the election.
Please working families, do your research in South Brooklyn and get rid of the employee that keeps pushing these male candidates, without researching them.
Sochie Nnaemeka – for the next election, please research the candidates. Other areas seem to have people who are a lot better and more focused on communities.

August 1, 2022Why Did Andrew Gounardes Accept $23,600 From a Family Whose Business Made Millions During Covid-19?

In December, Senator Andrew Gounardes had a holiday party where he asked people to give $125 to $5000. (See here)

Gounardes accepted two $5000 donations from the Tebele family in December and January.
In July, Gounardes and the Bay Ridge Democrats announced a another fundraiser. This time, there was a birthday party for Andrew. The Tebele’s each gave $6,800 to max out their contributions to Gounardes.

It’s strange that the Bay Ridge Democrats didn’t mind that Gounardes was accepting these large donations. Why would these millionaires be interested in a senate election in Brooklyn?
The Bay Ridge Democrats endorsed Bernie Sanders – not Joe Biden, so many are socialists. I’m surprised they are okay with Andrew accepting these donations.

Andrew Gounardes knew he didn’t need to represent Bay Ridge this year because he got money from some millionaires for doing nothing.
For years, Andrew gave excuses on why he couldn’t fix the discrepancy in property taxes:
Andrew said he was waiting on de Blasio, then Andrew was waiting for the property tax commission to come back. He introduced a circuit breaker bill with a Bay Ridge resident, but Gounardes didn’t do anything to move that bill either. This year, Gounardes had all the information and still didn’t take action for his community.
From Bay Ridge to Marine Park, families have overpaid in taxes because Gounardes didn’t want to help them.
Brad Lander, who pays less than half the property taxes of Bay Ridge residents, is Gounardes’ friend. Lander claims to be a socialist. (See here)
During Covid-19 Charles Tebele made millions selling COVID test kits to Kathy Hochul. (See here) It’s been in the news a lot because there were no bids for this contract. The Tebele’s gave $300,000 to Hochul’s campaign. (See here)

Tebele also made money selling Mayor Bill de Blasio masks. Part of the contract – 91 million dollars was cancelled because the city decided to order a different ventilator model. (See here)
The Tebele’s have been donating to de Blasio for year. Bill put Tebele on the board of the Economic Development Corporation. The EDC has control over huge projects, which cost a lot of money.
Candidate Max Rose also accepted donations from The Tebele Family. When they gave Rose these donations, the gerrymandered district matched the district that Andrew was going to run in. The new district is waterfront property.

Who is Andrew Gounardes helping? Not Brooklyn!
