News 12 Brooklyn Brought Backpacks to Students in Bay Ridge Today

News 12 Brooklyn came out to 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge today and gave out backpacks to get students excited about the school year.

While Channel 12 means well, the local school bag drives that Grandma’s Love and the library do are better! When local groups collect, parents generally donate a lot of “the good bags.”

The bags that Channel 12 gave out have their logo. Older students want to have the strong bags like everyone else – Jansport or similar.

Check out their video below – the News 12 staff is very happy, which is very sweet!

It’s here (see map) on 77th Street off 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

The number on the paper in the window: 917-651-5819.

I don’t know anything else about this place.

Councilwoman Vernikov Stood Up Against Hate

The word Hitler was graffitied on the side of the Congregation Beth Shalom of Kings Bay synagogue at 2710 Avenue X in Brooklyn. (See here)

Councilwoman Inna Vernikov was quick to speak out for her community in Brooklyn (as usual).

She said: “There are Holocaust survivors who attend this shul and now have to come to a synagogue and see a Hitler sign on the wall.”

Thankfully, the Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol remove the hateful message quickly.

Chris McCreight Doesn’t Represent Any Part of District 10 – Why is He on Goldman’s Flyer?

Christopher McCreight was recently elected to District 64 which includes part of Bay Ridge to Coney Island. None of that area is in Congressional District 10.

McCreight no longer represents district 46, which does include part of District 10. Coney Island would not support Goldman – not a chance.

Goldman doesn’t even know that McCreight represents Coney Island:

Mark Hanna is the District Leader for the area of Bay Ridge in District 10.

Hanna held a fundraiser for Yu-line Niou for Congress, so it’s clear who he is supporting (and Niou is a likely choice politically for that part of the neighborhood, so he is representing the community).

McCreight was recently in an article about how judges are chosen. Are you sure you elected the right person, Bay Ridge?

Kathy Hochul Was in Shore Road Park Tonight

Governor Kathy Hochul was in Shore Road Park in Bay Ridge tonight.

When she took office, I was so excited because I thought she was going to be different, but I quickly learned politics is just pictures – no real changes to policy.

Imagine Governor Hochul came to Bay Ridge to help people! She didn’t – she came to get on stage with the band.

Kathy Hochul has been in government for many years and has watched as Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Marine Park and other areas have been overtaxed.

When Hochul took office, she should have frozen property tax increases for all areas that were overtaxed, until she could get a grip on the system and make the taxes fair throughout the state. It’s not rocket science, but it takes someone who cares about equity.

Even the NYS tax rebates were drastically different between NYC and other areas of NYS. (See here) State representatives, like Andrew Gounardes should have fought for fair property taxes.

Who Runs the Streets in Williamsburg?

This video was taken tonight. The people have to be wondering: “Where is the NYPD?”

Things will calm down when it gets cold. But for now, Williamsburg, Brooklyn has nights where the streets feel like the Wild, Wild, West.
