August 23, 2022Congratulations to the East River Park Activists Who Held Back Carlina Rivera

Congratulations to East River Park Activists. I was glad to see their activism was able to keep Carlina Rivera from winning in Congressional District 10.

Last year, I got to know about the problems in their Manhattan Park because our Councilman dropped the ball there. (Info)

Carlina Rivera was the NYC Council representative who should have worked with these activists and minimized the destruction of the park. Justin Brannan headed the committee and failed to put in a written request for an oversight hearing.

The East River Park Activists showed up in asbestos outfits in District 10. They handed out information and hung signs urging people not to vote for Carlina because she allowed the East River Park to be taken down.

Strangely, Carlina didn’t understand that these people were heartbroken over their park. They even dressed in deer outfits in August to let people know that Carlina was the wrong person to represent the area in congress.

I would never consider myself an environmentalist, but I have felt terrible for the East River Park activists, who lost their park under strange circumstances.
Most importantly, those in government should realize that redacted papers shouldn’t be given to park activists:

Carlina’s election was backed by Brad Lander and Justin Brannan. I’m glad the activists were able to keep Carlina out of Brooklyn.

I hope the activists make a visit in Bay Ridge next Fall.

August 23, 2022Thank You For Running, Brittany Ramos DeBarros

Whether you agree with Brittany Ramos DeBarros politically or not, there is no denying that Brittany ran an honest campaign.
Brittany stayed focused and only discussed what she would do for people. She didn’t take shots at Rose (and she definitely could have). Sadly, Max Rose played politics and put a story in the paper (here) today trying to smear Brittany. (Pathetic)

Rose’s message tonight didn’t even mention his opponent (see message). Max needs to take a lesson from Jerry Nadler’s speech.

While I am not interested in socialism, I thought Brittany was an energetic and hard-working woman, who had good intentions. Brittany remained unbought and unbossed throughout the campaign. She shined a light on the problems of the machine candidates being bought.
Why did Brittany lose? Democrats fear mongered and said Max Rose is the only one who can beat Nicole Malliotakis. Yep, fear-mongering works in this area.
I have a feeling we will see Brittany again….doing something else great! God’s got bigger plans for this woman.

August 23, 2022Why Alessandra Biaggi Crashed and Burned in the Election Against Sean Maloney

The news isn’t even talking about this big loss.
When we saw Alessandra Biaggi’s ad for Congress, we knew she wasn’t going to win. You win by discussing the issues or fear mongering if you are a bad candidate.

Many women were offended by Alessandra Biaggi’s ageist advertisement. Biaggi didn’t get it. She doesn’t realize that she is standing on the shoulders of women before her!

Alessandra Biaggi lost sight of the community. She should have attacked Maloney on his past record and the money he took in.

Maloney didn’t even campaign hard.

Although Biaggi got AOC’s endorsement, it didn’t matter.

Even in her concession speech, she didn’t understand why people didn’t connect with her. (See video) Now she’s without a job and has time to decorate here home.

Ta ta Alessandra Biaggi.

August 23, 2022Ta Ta John Matland. Congratulations Malliotakis!

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis beat John Matland by 57 percentage points. (Source) You can hear her speech here.
John Matland was spreading a message that Nicole Malliotakis was a RINO (meaning Republican in Name Only)

Matland thought Trump was going to send him a message. Instead, Trump made it clear that he supported Malliotakis still.

Don’t worry Matland has 12 people who take his polls.

August 23, 2022Queens Man Indicted for Sex Trafficking Two Women in Bay Ridge

When I saw the Brooklyn District Attorney’s statement about sex trafficking, I thought it was the story we had seen about the man in Flatbush, who lured an 18-year-old from Ohio to Brooklyn. (See DA Gonzalez’s statement)
But it wasn’t that – Two women were sex trafficked in Bay Ridge. (News)
In April, the two women responded to a massage therapists ad to work at Rose Spa at 479 – 78th Street. No one would notice this business unless they lived on the block or responded to an advertisement. (See location)
Rose Spa was open 24 hours and the owner made the two women work all day – 7 days a week. He would not let them leave the building.
“It is alleged that the defendant raped the 38-year-old victim on or about May 15, 2022, inside of Rose Spa after she refused to have sex with him. On May 19, 2022, the woman walked into the 68th Precinct to report the rape and the defendant was arrested on May 25, 2022.” (Source)
How many other small places like this exist in Bay Ridge or Brooklyn where women are being abused?
In May, we discussed the crime stats for Bay Ridge – a fifth rape had been reported that month. (See here)
Rape is a serious issue and communities need to discuss it and deal with it – not pretend it didn’t happen because some people feel uncomfortable discussing it or don’t want to do anything about it.
There’s been 7 reported rapes in our community already this year.

August 23, 2022Vote for David Yassky to Problem Solve in Brooklyn

Every time I have heard David Yassky speak, he is talking about problem-solving an issue in Brooklyn. Our current senator, Gounardes likes to go to Albany, but issues in Brooklyn are not handled.
Yassky is a Progressive, like Gounardes, so he is going to vote very similarly in Albany. Yet, Yassky is a problem solver. During the debate with Gounardes, David Yassky explained what was missing from the bail law. David made it sound like it was simple to fix. (Listen here)
Gounardes has served two terms and is not able to help many residents. Andrew promised to help, but he doesn’t follow through. Either he doesn’t think thousands of people in his district needed help or he doesn’t want to help. Andrew also won’t share how the money from this district is spent. We only saw this. Andrew doesn’t respond to email.
While David Yassky was campaigning in Bay Ridge, we saw him standing and listening to people. He wasn’t telling them all about himself, he wanted to hear what they needed.
In a park interview, David Yassky was aware of his surroundings and talked about the brown grass at the park. He said it would be part of his job as senator to get that replaced and help the park look its best. (See video) The women interviewing Yassky asked about how he helped make PS 8 into a successful school. David Yassky was very humble and explained how it took several years working with the school community.
Andrew Gounardes wasn’t able to speak up about problems in Bay Ridge. When this happened, Andrew was silent. A representative for the community needs to take on the problems, not ignore them.
Finally, animal lovers know Gounardes has not supported S7911. (See bill) Some of Gounardes’ friends did, but Andrew didn’t. We know David Yassky is a dog lover and we can count on him to help dogs in shelters. If you don’t know why this bill is important, see here.
Bay Ridge and Brooklyn – let’s give David Yassky a chance to help Brooklyn. We’ve seen what Gounardes can do, it’s time to do something else.
Please vote in the Democratic Primary today.
