Why is Moms Demand Action Standing With a Candidate Who Didn’t Take Action Against Guns in Bay Ridge or Dyker Heights?

In May, Max Rose tweeted this:

I responded to Rose on Twitter because Max Rose was silent when there were issues with guns in our community. I also wrote this to let our community know that this politician is not being authentic.

Today, I saw on Twitter that some mothers from Moms Demand Action were at Rose’s office and campaigning for him.

Didn’t they research Rose to find out if he was a gunsense candidate? Or was it just easier for them to say, “Oh he’s a Democrat and a military guy so he will stand up against guns.”

This is not the first time we have seen Moms Demand Action back a candidate that was silent against guns in the community. Andrew Gounardes failed to stand up against these same issues. It’s easier for these men to stay silent and hope no one notices. Gounardes gave $50K before the primary to a gun group outside of our district (see here) They were doing endorsements at the time, so Andrew may have been trying to get endorsed.

I’ve tried emailing and calling Moms Demand Action for several years. I have not received a response. This may be a political group for Democrats, rather than a concerned group of parents. Whose funding this group and their red tshirts? Parents would call back – especially someone in Brooklyn!

Two incidents where Max Rose did not respond to guns in our community:

a) A man living in Dyker Heights used an AR-15 on his neighbors home because he thought his wife was cheating. He called the police on himself and they picked him up. Since he was in the Army, he was released. Max Rose was silent. (See story in the news)

b) Sammy Hamden, a Bay Ridge business owner was shot at while he was setting up his business. The 68th Precinct responded and they captured the guy. Yet, politicians in our area failed to contact Hamden, so Hamden went to the news to alert Bay Ridge. (See here)

Max Rose Opened an Office on 3rd Avenue

So many storefronts are closed in Bay Ridge and Max Rose chose to rent Norma’s Arts and Crafts Supplies at 7813 3rd Avenue.

Why that place? Norma’s closed in March 2022. She made it through the pandemic, but closed in March after her rent was raised. The landlord could have been receiving rent all these months from Norma. Max Rose doesn’t know that because he doesn’t know Bay Ridge.

—————————-

Max Rose sent out postcards which are not truthful:

Max Rose has never blasted any Democrat in Brooklyn. He stands and takes pictures with Justin Brannan all the time.

It took two years for Max Rose to speak out against bail reform. When a woman was sexually assaulted in the 95th Street train station, the news reported that the alleged attacker benefitted from bail reform. Max Rose didn’t do or say anything. (See here)

Andrew Gounardes gerrymandered Brooklyn and voted for unconstitutional district maps to help Rose (the courts had to change the district maps to make them more fair.)

Max Rose wasn’t a good politician on guns. When he was a Congressman, a man in Dyker Heights shot an AR–15 at his neighbors homes. The man didn’t even go to jail. Max Rose didn’t stand up for the community or do anything. (Info)

Anyone Who Thought This Was a Fair District in Brooklyn is a Snake

Bay Ridge’s new NYC Council District was made to snake down a thin strip of Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach and ending with the gated community of Sea Gate.

Only a moron or a sneaky politician would think this gerrymandered district was “fair.”

Who lives down this thin strip in the snake’s body that had to be included in our district?

Notice they removed 7th Avenue and Poly Place where all the cars are illegally parked and never get ticketed! In June, Gounardes, Brannan and Captain Tolson told us that street would be cleared of vehicles. Three months later, it’s exactly the same! That part of the distict is going to Staten Island. (See red arrow below)

That section would remove the Republicans that live on the Army Base. Those residents are not Staten Islanders. I’m sure Jumaane Williams doesn’t care either way.

Our community should have seen District Leaders including Christopher McCreight, Tori Kelly Burnhas and Mark Hanna speak out against gerrymandering (see the skinny streets connecting Bay Ridge to SeaGate?) Yet, all District Leaders are silent.

Republicans and Asians in Dyker Heights were removed from the district. They were replaced with predominately white people from the gated community of SeaGate.

The first change in the newly made district was made quietly this Summer. Bay Ridge was redistricted with Staten Island.

Plan 2 was made to put Bay Ridge with Sunset Park. People said, “Goodbye” to Justin Brannan because Alexa Aviles is the representative in Sunset Park. She doesn’t love lobbyists.

Plan 3 – Bay Ridge is linked by a small snake like strip of land to SeaGate, a gated community with their own security. This took a huge chunk from Ari Kagan’s district. Kagan’s been working and people have been noticing!

Fortunately, the redistricting committee had some decent people – 8 of them including Joshua Schnepp, who voted against these districts. There were 7 people who voted in favor of these maps. Anyone can see this is not acceptable!

Politico says the Mayor had someone (the article says Menashe Shapiro) tell people to vote against these district lines – THAT’S GOOD NEWS! (See article)

RIP James Houlihan – “Hooley”

Sad to hear Hooley died.

He was everyone’s friend at Farrells Bar in Windsor Terrace.

When I first went to Farrell’s, Hooley and I talked about being Irish. When Hooley he heard my last name, he told me he was friends with a great Irishman by the same name —> my older brother. I came home and told my brother and my brother said, “Don’t go to my places and drink with my friends.”

Hooley always made me laugh by retelling some of my brother’s finest moments at the bar.

When Hooley retired in 2019, it was a great party, but also bittersweet as he was everyone’s friends. Hooley always had a great story to share with Brooklyn.

RIP Hooley – I bet he is serving up a party in Heaven.

Yong An Li, Nine-Year-Old Boy Killed in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn

On Friday, September 16, 2022, Yong An Li, a 9-year-old was playing on the sidewalk on East 12th Street near Sheepshead Bay Road on the way home from afterschool with his grandmother (near 3:00 pm). (See street)

A 31-year-old driver made a left turn into her driveway on East 12th, and didn’t see the little boy. How sad for this driver, as no one wants to hit a child!

Yongan was taken to Maimonides and died at the hospital. (See Story)

Why did Senator Gounardes take a week to mention that this child died? (See here) Streetsblog wrote about this on September 18th (See here).

Yong An Li is the only child of Ruirong Li. A GoFundMe was set up for Ms. Li to help defray the funeral expenses. (See here)

Prayers for Ms. Li, her mother and Yongan’s Family. Prayers for the children and teachers at Yongan’s school as well.

RIP Yong An Li.

Will Bay Ridge Have a Spirit Halloween Store?

Spirit Halloween doesn’t have a home in Bay Ridge this year. They planned to be at the old TJ Maxx, but that fell through. (See store manager ad below)

Last year, Spirit Halloween Store was at 531 – 86th Street, the old NY & Company store. It was a nice setup (but it was missing the home decor and animatronics —> these fun things)

The Spirit Halloween website no longer has 11209 on their site. The closest site is next to Party City on Atlantic Avenue or in Staten Island (search here for new stores)

If you have empty commercial space, you can lease it for three months to Spirit Halloweendetails here
