September 29, 2022Sign on 93rd Street – Off 3rd Avenue

This storefront is on 93rd Street off 3rd Avenue, next door to Mathylde Frontus’ office. Today, I noticed the pretty sign over their front window.
It used to be called Cry Later Tattoo (see their work here).
I don’t know if this is a new business or a new sign.

September 28, 2022Brooklyn Dog and Cat Lovers, Do You Have Five Minutes to Help Some Shelter Animals?

While NYS politicians meant well with the bill S6870B
for shelters, the wording of the bill encourages kill shelters to kill healthy and adoptable animals. (See the bill)
Animal Advocates explain why this bill is harmful here
In the bill the words “appropriately treated,” needs to be clearly defined, so kill shelters don’t euthanize scared cats and dogs.
Animal rights advocate, Andrew Weprin explained to me that the bill should have included remedies such as socialization, enrichment, exercise or prioritizing the adoption or transfer to rescue of those animals who are supposedly experiencing “mental suffering.”
When animals are taken from the only homes they know and put in cages, they are scared, lonely and often traumatized. Their mental state does not return to normal until they are adopted and in a home where they feel safe.

I was not happy to see Animal Care and Control in New York tweet this after NY Lawmakers voted in favor of the bill.: (Seen here)

Please use this form on Governor Hochul’s site to ask her to veto the bill, so it goes back to the NYS Senate and Assembly for revision. The governor will not remove part of the bill.
I wrote: Dear Governor Hochul, While we appreciate lawmakers making a bill for shelter animals, a small portion of the bill is unclear and we feel that more pets will die needlessly. ]The words: “appropriately treated” in the bill needed to be clearly explained so that kill shelters don’t euthanize dogs that are afraid in the shelter. Please veto bill S6870B so that lawmakers can clarify this bill. Thank you.

Fatta Mano translates to: Made by hand or hand made
Abdul and Ayat Elani, the owners of Boca del Cielo and Ayat Restaurants own Fatta Mano. They opened a second Ayat in Industry City as well. (See here)
Congratulations Abdul and Ayat! It takes a lot of hard work and drive to open several successful businesses.
This corner location used to be a grocery store and the Fritebar.

Years ago, the corner location was Sally’s.
