February 23, 2023Bay Ridge Center – 400K From Assemblyman Tannousis. Why is There Dirt on the Floor?
It was a pleasure to attend the @bayridge_center groundbreaking yesterday at 15 Bay Ridge Avenue. This new facility will enable the organization to triple its capacity to provide much needed services to our seniors! I was happy to facilitate the transfer of $400,000 that was… https://t.co/Mvg13qJIZs pic.twitter.com/GufWoLWHhB

Everyone is happy about the new Bay Ridge Center.
Mike Tannousis wrote that he was able to get $400,000 for the new senior center. That’s pretty big because we don’t hear about Tannousis using any government money in Bay Ridge.
Whoever planned this photo with dirt on the floor and 10+ shovels should be fired – it’s silly and senseless. Stop wasting money, so politicians can take a fake photo. Use the money for the seniors!

Just before 3:30 pm today, Bank of America on 5th Avenue and 69th Street was robbed.

The Citizen App shared: “The police are searching for a robbery suspect. He is a man in his 30’s – 5’10” and weighing 170 lbs. He is wearing a blue mask and a grey beanie.“

Not one politician in Bay Ridge mentioned the robbery because they don’t care. There were no warnings to residents to stay out of the area or be vigilant.

February 21, 2023Prince Salon Opened on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridg – Great Haircuts for Men

Prince Salon opened at 8301 5th Avenue. This is where Jet Beauty Supply used to be, so I don’t think I would like any business being in that spot.
I don’t like their awning. BUT I know two men who have gone there (not Lee) and they loved the place. They also received very nice haircuts.

February 21, 2023YiJie Ye’s Vigil in Bay Ridge was a Political Mess

Lights, camera, action – Inviting the press to a community vigil is wrong!
Bay Ridge Cares should have limited the street vigil to the local paper and not allowed politicians to take over their event.
It’s strange that after a week after the incident, Councilman Brannan was talking about terrorism, when this incident was caused by a man’s poor mental health:

Last Monday, the NYPD quickly released the name of the suspect because journalists were linking the U-Haul ride to terrorist, Sayfullo Saipov case. (Info here) NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell went live to put that myth to sleep and say the incident was not terrorist related.
I don’t know anyone in Bay Ridge who was on edge after they saw the suspect arrested last week.
Two representatives from the Arab American Society in Bay Ridge spoke at YiJie Ye’s vigil. They talked about how incidents effect Arab American’s two ways when terrorism is mentioned.
**Why didn’t the head of AAA speak to Brannan about his inappropriate use of the word terrorism?
“Gounardes used the vigil to highlight concerns about traffic safety in the city.” (CBS News) This wasn’t about street safety at all – it was about a mentally ill man. During the vigil, Gounardes started talking about cars that drove by unsafely, rather than speaking about the man who had died. Andrew didn’t mention mental health.
NYC Comptroller, Brad Lander should not have spoken, as he has no connection to our community.
Senator Chu spoke about YiJie Ye’s children, but she should not have given out that much information because the young teens’ privacy is important.

Steve Mei, the head of the Chinese-American Planning Council, was spot on when he said more mental health services were needed for seniors.
Mayor Adams also spoke about mental health: “This person was experiencing some real mental health issues that we must focus on and face to make our city safe.” He will be releasing a new plan to help mentally ill NY’ers at the end of the month.
The words that are used in a community matter. The picture-taking pols will be gone in the blink of an eye, but while they are here, the community should be holding them accountable.

February 21, 2023RIP Zackery Nazario – 15-Year-Old Died Subway Surfing in Brooklyn

RIP Zackery Nazario – he was only 15 years old and died subway surfing on the J train in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. (News)
Zachery struck a pole as he was crossing the Williamsburg bride and hit the tracks.
Prayers for his Mom and his friends.
The MTA wants Youtube to remove the train surfing videos like this:
The kids will just use another video sharing site to share the videos – NYC can’t stop this unless they put the kids in jail for riding on the top of the train.
