Chris Marte Should Not Be a City Councilmember

In February, Councilman Chris Marte’s aide used vulgar language to a female journalist and spoke inappropriately about two Asian female leaders. (See here)
In all these weeks, the aide or Councilman Chris Marte never apologized to the women. Marte should have accepted responsibility by now.
This morning Lester Chang tweeted and shared the translated message here (CAUTION: vulgar language):

Today Marte’s aide finally resigned. (Newspaper story)
Councilman Chris Marte at first said he couldn’t do anything, but wished he could. (Info here) But then Marte changed his tune and said what was said was not unforgiveable. (Info here) Someone who doesn’t know what’s appropriate should not be a council representative.
I was surprised that Councilman Justin Brannan didn’t speak up. #Silent
Now so surprising, Senator Andrew Gounardes and Senator
Iwen Chu were both silent about the vulgar aide. Gounardes never speaks up when Democrats do the wrong thing – he’s too afraid to speak out against his party. Sadly, Iwen Chu is also meek didn’t take an opportunity to speak our! #Silent.
Why didn’t Speaker Adrianne Adams fire Marte’s aide?
When Marte was unable to do the right thing, Speaker Adams should have.
Chris Marte should have called the women and apologized by now, but he hasn’t.

March 16, 2023Smoke Shop/Deli Closed on 4th Ave/95th Street

95 Smoke Shop, Deli and Juice Bar was shut down today because it was operating illegally.

As you know this shop is across the street from St. Patrick’s Church and that makes it close enough to St. Patrick’s School.
No one spoke or wrote about what this business was doing illegally, but if there was leadership in this community, someone would have spoken up and told the community this afternoon.

Bay Ridge, elect better leaders.

Councilwoman Inna Venikov formed Asian Community Watch to help residents in her community in Brooklyn feel safe.
Sadly not much has been done to stop the hate towards Asians and make people feel more comfortable in their community.
It’s nice to see this group organizing and being present for their neighbors.
