Because of these lawbreakers in #BayRidge, Brooklyn, our street sweeper couldn't fully do its job this morning.

We all have a role to play in keeping the City clean, safe & healthy – but we can't do our job if you don't do yours! Move your cars during the posted cleaning hours! pic.twitter.com/DHEh4KbJCt
The Department of Sanitation is calling out the lawbreakers in Bay Ridge for ASP – Alternate Side Park. Brooklynites responded here.
Sometimes these trucks pass, make a lot of noise and there’s still papers and garbage in the street.

May 17, 2023Brooklyn Half Marathon on Sunday, May 20th

Around 25,000 people will be running in the Brooklyn Half on Saturday, May 20th.
It’s expected to rain so hopefully it won’t be too hard for the runners (it was really humid last year, so this may be a welcome change).
This half marathon doesn’t affect Bay Ridge because they run on Ocean Parkway to Coney Island.

May 17, 2023Justin Brannan Didn’t Tell You About His Vote on 5/11 For a Review Board to Release People From Rikers

On Thursday, May 11th, Councilman Justin Brannan voted in favor of establishing a review program to decide which inmates can be released early from Rykers. (Story here)

You can see the bill and Brannan’s vote here.
The review teams are expected to include contracted clinicians and social workers who’ll evaluate cases and “resource coordinators” who’ll connect released detainees with mental health programs or other alternative-to-incarceration programs.

NYC Council spends a lot of time on legislation for prisoners.
“The bill specifically excludes prosecutors and judges from helping decide whether detainees can be sprung.” (Source)
“It includes language prohibiting review teams from sharing “confidential information” with district attorneys “or the court” without consent from the inmate’s lawyer.” (Source)

Suzanne shared the photo above.
A very sweet man in Bay Ridge grows plants to give away. He puts them in pots and then places the pots on a bookcase with a sign for people to take a plant. On Mother’s Day he did it again! So sweet!

May 16, 2023CB 10 Approved Open Streets at PS 185

PS 185 requested to have an Open Street on Ridge Blvd because they currently have only 30% of their schoolyard accessible due to all the scaffolding out back.
The paperwork said the Open Street was good for four hours a day. The principal said the children would be outside from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Community Board 10 thought closing Ridge Blvd was better than closing 87th Street because there are no driveways on Ridge Blvd (across from the school is apartment buildings.)
The principal said that there will be barricades and four parents at each end of the street.
Community Board 10 informed the neighbors of this school and they received only positive feedback from the neighbors.
The majority of Community Board 10 voted in favor of PS 185 having an Open Street. This Open Street program is for one year.
