Baci Ristorante is Closed For Renovations

We were sad to hear that Baci Ristorante on 3rd Avenue and 85th Street in Bay Ridge has closed.
The inside of the restaurant is redone (even though it’s pretty).
Update: We asked the workers and they told us that this restaurant will no longer be Baci. It will have a new name, but the same type of cuisine. The owner remains the same.
Baci was busy during the Summer Stroll on Friday and they had a DJ.
Baci Lovers, while you are waiting, you can enjoy Baci in Staten Island:

August 1, 2023Update: NO. Is a Tent City Coming to Calvert Vaux Park?
UPDATE:

Councilman Ari Kagan shared that the Mayor’s office plans to put a tent city at Calvert Vaux Park in Gravesend. That’s the park that is after Adventurers Amusement Park (Nellie Bly) and before Home Depot at Cropsey Avenue.
Kagan opposes the use of the park for the migrants because families are using it now, but the Mayor’s staff is having a hard time finding room for the migrants.

See the tent city at Randall’s Island.
Federal places like Floyd Bennett Field or the Army Base have a lot of room, but I don’t think they have permission to use them.

July 31, 2023RIP O’Shae Sibley. Memorial August 5th.

O’Shae Sibley was killed at a gas station in Midwood because he was gay. He was only 28-years-old. O’Shae was dancing to Beyonce’s music.
“A friend of O’Shae’s wrote: [They were] screaming we Muslim and we don’t like gays!” (Source)
RIP Prayers for O’Shea’s family and friends.

A Go Fund Me was set up to defray funeral costs. (Info)
How is society stuck in the hate still?
Police are looking for a 17-year-old boy. (Story)
In 2016, I got to choreograph a piece that O'Shae Sibley was a part of. He had such a gentle soul, was so hardworking, and just a great energy to be around. The news of his murder is quite jarring. And all because a group of men didn't like his dancing. it's painful. RIP O'Shae?? pic.twitter.com/LvoUKlAOTs

July 31, 2023Coszcal de Allende Closed – *New Place in Sept*

When we heard the news that Coszcal de Allende Restaurant was closing, we were very sad.
This place is a gem in Bay Ridge because of their authentic food. The family that owns the restaurant is fantastic!

The GOOD NEWS is that they will be reopening next month at 7506 – 3rd Avenue!
This location used to be Mr. Chips. (Before Mr. Chips, it was the Lighthouse Diner.)

Coszcal De Allende has been written about many times because of their excellent food and restaurant. Most recently, Eater NY named them one of thirty-eight essential restaurants in New York City!

Congratulations to the owners. We look forward to your new restaurant opening!

July 31, 2023OMNY Is Charging Higher Rates, Even Through Fares Don’t Increase Until 8/20

If you are using OMNY, check that you aren’t being charged $2.90 for the fair (or $7.00 for the express bus). Rates don’t go up until August 20th, so you should still see $2.75 (or $6.75 for the express bus).
I bet they figure no one will say anything because it’s just a small amount.

July 30, 2023Bank Robbed. NYPD Arrested Someone – 88th St.
THIS WAS NOT REPORTED IN ANY PAPER. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE. DOES THE POLICE HAVE THE MAN WHO ROBBED TD BANK?

Around 11:15 am this morning, TD Bank on 5th Avenue and 82nd Street in Bay Ridge was robbed. TD Bank is open on Sundays. Today it was open from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.
Channel 11 PIX News said that the thief took the money with a tracker. * TD Bank and their tellers are ready for thieves. *
The police followed the thief to 88th Street. (See fantastic video by Christopher *Must See*)

Helicopters were flying overhead. Many people shared videos. (See here)

The police found the suspected thief and blocked 88th Street between 4th and 5th Avenue. The man was sitting in his car.
By 12:00 pm, the ESC Bearcat pulled up (it looks like this) and the NYPD brought dogs! Many Ridgites were watching!
Finally, the man gave up and the NYPD took the suspect into custody. Go 68th Precinct!! (ESU = Emergency Service Unit)
