“Yesterday at 8:30am, I took the B16 to work from Bay Ridge. As I got off my stop on Ft Hamilton & the bus pulled away, I realized that I LEFT MY PHONE ON THE BUS. Fortunately, a very nice patron ran up to me & handed my phone. He then proceeded to run to the next stop to get back on the same bus.“

July 7, 2023Brown Puppy Found Near 15th Avenue

This brown puppy dog was found today on Bay Ridge Pkwy between 15th & 16th Avenue around 11:00 am this morning.
She doesn’t have a collar, tag or microchip. The kind person who found the dog took her to the vet.
This is a female and is only 6-8 months old.

July 7, 2023X27 to Bay Ridge Hit By Double-Decker Bus

On Thursday evening, a X27 bus headed to Bay Ridge was hit by a double decker bus on East 23rd Street and First Avenue in Manhattan at about 7:15 p.m. (Story here)
“The driver of the sight-seeing bus reportedly sped through a red light ahead of the collision, according to New York City Transit President Richard Davey.“
“There were 20 New Yorkers on the X27 just trying to get home this evening — plus our bus operator — when this tour bus behind us seemed to have blown a red light and T-boned our bus,” Davey said. “…And as I understand, it was going so fast, it actually hit it twice.”
The windows on the tour bus were broken to get the passengers out. The driver of the tour bus was issued a summons.

July 6, 2023RIP Ricky Joassaint

On June 13th, 13-year-old Ricky Joassaint and four friends went to Prospect Park Lake. It was Ricky’s first time at the lake. (Source) Ricky went under the water. He was pulled out and brought to the hospital.

At New York-Presbyterian/Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Ricky remained on life support and in a coma.
His mother flew in from the Caribbean to be with him.
On July 5th, Ricky died after being in the hospital for three weeks.

A Go Fund Me was created to defray costs. (See here)
RIP Ricky. Prayers for his family and friends.

July 6, 2023The NYPD Had a Crime Briefing Today

Around 11:00 am today, the 68th Precinct shared that the NYPD was having a crime briefing at 2:00 pm. (It’s for the whole NYC Police Dept.)

Commissioner Caban shared: “The NYPD as a whole is down 50% in shootings. For the past 13 weeks, there has been a reduction in shootings.”
In NYC, 23 people were shot this year over the holiday weekend. Commissioner Caban said that last year 43 people were shot on July 4th weekend.
GRAND LARCENY AUTO THEFT IS UP 22.8%
Commissioner Caban shared that the 5-year-old who was shot in the Bronx last week is still in the hospital. She is doing well, but they did not remove the bullet from her chest. (Info about the shooting here)
Finally, Comissioner Caban shared that major crime is down 4% in NYC for the month of June. Bay Ridge had some major shootings in June.
