Homeless R Train Riders Are Invisible to Justin Brannan and Andrew Gounardes

Senator Andrew Gounardes was supposed to have constituent hours in Bay Ridge yesterday. He cancelled the time in Bay Ridge, as he and his staffer went to Montague Street to help the Starbucks workers become a unions.

The Starbucks workers don’t need Gounardes help, they have unionized all over the US without his help. .Montague is a lot prettier than the NYC Subway, where people need help.

Last August, Councilman Brannan and Senator Gounardes took photos in the 95th Street R train station. They wrote on social media that social services was helping the people on the R train. No one is helping them. They have been riding the train for years.

Salsa Night at Shore Road Park Was Not Popular

While there are many Hispanic people living in Brooklyn, someone must have forgotten to put the advertisement for this concert in Spanish.

Free concerts at Shore Road Park usually are busy – this one had very few people. (Video)

Gounardes Not Handling New Office Hours Well

Senator Andrew Gounardes has not handled the change to the new office well.

This week and last week, Gounardes cancelled on the the scheduled days for both Bay Ridge and Downtown Brooklyn.

What was Gounardes doing that he (or his staff) couldn’t be present for Bay Ridge? They were hanging out at Starbucks on Montague Street.

Gounardes and his staff think your tax dollars should pay for them to help Starbucks unionize. Gounardes wants wear sneakers to work and hang out on Montague Street (it’s a very pretty street.)

Why didn’t Gounardes send his staffer to cover the office hours in Bay Ridge?

Gounardes was not at Bay Ridge’s Summer Stroll either.

Bay Ridge Train Station This Morning – R Train

This man was sleeping on the ground in the Bay Ridge train station this morning. This man is invisible to Councilman Brannan and Senator Gounardes because they don’t ride the train.

Elect people who use the train! Years ago, Gounardes and Brannan knocked Golden for not using the train, but they are no different.

Shared to 311. I think NYC has given up on them.

Ying Tan Protested Against Migrants at Sunset Park Recreation Center

Every time I read something that Ying Tan writes, I nod my head and say YES, EXACTLY! She’s very intune with the community.

Gothamist wrote a big story about the protest Tan had at Sunset Park this morning! (See here)

Also noted in Gothamist’s story is that City Council representative for Sunset Park, Alexa Aviles sent questions to the Mayor, but she has not heard back. (Info)

While Tan is supported by her party, she is a leader on her own. We saw Iwen Chu being led by Abbate and Gounardes and Susan Zhang, who Bill Colton appears to be leading today. (See here)

While I don’t live in the district that Tan is running, I like that she’s very connected to the community. She’s present with the people when things happen – not just for a rally, but when problems arise. (See here and here)

Today at the rally at Sunset Park, Alexa Aviles’ supporters seem agitated that the Asian community was protesting against the recreation center being closed and used for the migrants. (We saw the video from WeChat of the man calling an Asian man a racist.)

Councilwoman Aviles should have spoken with them, so they can understand how different people feel about what’s happening at their park.

One of the videos I saw captured a vibrant woman named Lina. (See the video here)

Lina passionately expressed what people in Sunset Park were feeling. The seniors can’t use the recreation center, even though they paid for the membership (yes it’s low cost, but still they paid.) No one gave them a warning that the center was going to be closed because the migrants were there. (Why didn’t existing leaders let them know?) Marcela Mitaynes, the Assemblywoman for Sunset Park, was not understanding to Lina – she didn’t even respond to her!

In the video you may not notice Assemblywoman Mitaynes (She’s on the far left here) Mitaynes appeared to be hiding behind her chief-of-staff, Emmitt Mendoza-Gaspar, who was also silent when Lina shared the community’s views. (See here) This might be the reason why the Mayor’s staff chose this location – it works better when pols are silent!!!!
