Olives & Pita (Formerly Louie’ Gyros)

August brought another change in Bay Ridge – Louie’s Gyros at 7720 – 3rd Avenue is changed it’s names to Olives & Pita.

But as the saying goes….The more things change….the more they stay the same. It’s still the same beloved owner and good (thank goodness!)

They changed their decor.

A new green awning went up with the name Olives & Pita….it’s a bit plain.

Their website also has the new name. (See here)

A lot of people will be happy that Louie is still there because everyone loves Louis Lykourezos. We have known him since he worked in his parents restaurant (Spartan on 8th Avenue.)

Is a Tent City Coming to Shore Road? Nope.

This morning, former mayoral candidate, Curtis Sliwa was on Sid Rosenberg’s radio show on 77WABC.

Sliwa said that Councilman Justin Brannan has signed off on a tent city for migrants in Shore Road Park between 68th Street and 79th Street. You can Sliwa above at 10:48 (the whole podcast is at 20:00).

On social media, people wrote this:

People asked Councilman Brannan if it was true and he responded to a few people that the information was false and then Brannan wrote this:

A lot of people in Bay Ridge do not trust Brannan because he wasn’t honest with us about the school at Nathan’s. This article told us what happened. (Info) Then it happened again! (Info)

In the afternoon, Curtis Sliwa confidently spoke about a tent city coming to Shore Road again! Sliwa explained where he got the information. Sliwa said he was told it would go between 69th Street and 79th Street on Shore Road and that Justin Brannan knew about. You can hear at 25:00 minutes+ here:

Bay Ridge insider information: They will not put a tent city at Shore Road Park because parts of the park has a rat situation right now. If you didn’t know, now you know. People leaving containers with food, plus the area being near the water = rats.

The Mayor looked at 300 sites said nothing was off the table because there are so many people they have to help. (Source) Yesterday, Central Park was being considered. (See here) Today, Prospect Park was being considered.

Today, Senator Chu shared that they are putting a temporary shelter in Sunset Park. The shelter is for 100 adults at the Sunset Park Recreation Center on 7th Avenue and 42nd Street.

I’m surprised that Senator Chu let the community know. She doesn’t communicate well with the community (When a teen was killed, it took her a day to let the community know. When a person threw bricks through her window, Senator Chu didn’t let the community know if it was a targeted incident or EDP).

If You Have a Small Dog – Be Careful Around Shore Road Park

Jocelyn shared the above picture and this video to warn small dog owners that this Hawk was at Shore Road Park around 12:00 today.

I love when neighbors give everyone a heads up.

We saw a much smaller hawk swoop down and grab a mouse on Shore Road at the beginning of the Summer.

NYC is Not Responding to Homeless in Bay Ridge

It’s August and this man has on a jacket like it’s March. We need leaders who ride the train so they can see what is going on.

Men like this are invisible to politicians.

You don’t see Councilman Justin Brannan or Senator Andrew Gounardes helping these people because they don’t see them. Brannan and Gounardes don’t ride the train.

Gounardes thinks the train is great and he can put congestion pricing on Brooklyn residents because they have the train!
