August 12, 2023Why Didn’t Democrat Judicial Delegates Vote for the Supreme Court Candidates in Brooklyn?

On Monday night, 44 Democrat District Leaders met at Nick’s Lobster House in Brooklyn and chose the six candidates who will appear on the ballot for Supreme Court justices.
On Thursday night, hundreds of Democrats gathered at Marine Park Golf Course for a Judicial Convention to choose the Brooklyn Supreme Court Justices, but they were already chosen on Monday night! Why did they call everyone together and waste their time, if they were already chosen?

Lydia Green, a new Democrat district leader said, “This is not how judges should be chosen.” (Source)
Read the New Kings Democrats tweet:

If you didn’t believe the New Kings Democrats, then check out this article, which explains how this went down!
Someone decided the Brooklyn Democrats were going to do it a new way. Mark Hanna worked on this review process. (Source)
Our Democrat District Leaders Chris McCreight and Dionne Brown-Jordon weren’t bothered by this new system. Dionne looked happy about the selection (See here), while McCreight never mentioned anything about the voting or judges. (See here)
Tori Kelly and Joe Bove are Democrat district leaders also didn’t share any information about the judges!
Finally, Mark Hanna is the Democrat District Leader for District 64 and a member of the New Kings Democrats. Mark also didn’t share how the judges were chosen.
If the procedure calls for a judicial convention to chose the candidates, why aren’t more people calling this out? There were ten people who weren’t chosen to be a candidate, why aren’t any of them making some noise about the process?
These are the six judges who will be on the ballot for the Supreme Court:
Judge Heela Capell
Judge Sharon A.B. Clarke
Judge Caroline P. Cohen
Judge Rachel Freier
Judge Saul Stein
Judge Joanne D. Quiñones
The Brooklyn Eagle wrote an article about the judges, but there is no author for the article. (See here) If a journalist wrote it, their name would be on it. If a politician wrote it, the paper should be sharing that information as well. Why isn’t The Brooklyn Eagle providing that information?
*Tomorrow I will have a special about these judges.
