Shore Road Bike Path – Trash Not Picked Up

Update: I received many messages from residents in the 90’s who told me that several garbage cans on Shore Road in the 90’s have been removed! We have seen this happen to other sections of our neighborhood.

Residents have been sharing photos ofverflowing garbage cans on Shore Road Bike Path on Sunday and Monday.

If a can looks like this on Monday, it means someone missed a pickup.

Some people are quick to ask, “Why didn’t they carry it to the next pail?” Who cares?

This garbage and graffiti is different.

This is a street that isn’t being maintained and the graffiti is from kids who want to have their name on something. It’s only important for them for the day.

The nice person who shared these photos is organizing a clean-up on September 9th. They shouldn’t have to do that, but they are. I will share the details when there are more.

Five Weeks After Faridun Mavlonov Was Murdered, No One Has Been Arrested

Over five weeks ago, 15-year-old Faridun Mavlonov was murdered. He wasn’t the intended target of a bullet that went in his back on 20th Avenue and 62nd Street.

The 17-year-old suspect is known by the NYPD, but has not been arrested. (Info)

There have been no more updates from the police or press. He’s just another forgotten victim. I don’t want him to be forgotten, like Phil Guarino has been.

School begins in another week and the high school students are going to talk about how a killer beat the system and avoided jail.

Drag Racing in Bay Ridge Isn’t Being Dealt With – Too Many Leaders Taking Photos

Senator Iwen Chu is a state representative of part of Bay Ridge. She acknowledges that local businesses are impacted by the drag racing, but she and other local politicians haven’t done anything about it…except take photos.

In 2021, Andrew Gounardes passed the Sleep Bill and Andrew told us that would stop the drag racing. The bill was ineffective and just became a topic for Gounardes to tweet about, rather than to take action.

The DEP is putting sound meters in communities. (Info) Maybe the solution is to get rid of State Senators and use department experts for community problems. State senators don’t seem to care about quality of life issues and just take photos.

Senator Chu’s bills this year were weak and didn’t target existing problems in Bay Ridge or Dyker Heights. (See here)

If you read through her bills and didn’t know Senator Chu, you wouldn’t be able to tell she is a representative in Brooklyn.

We have more leaders representing Bay Ridge, but no new solutions.

Illegal Weed Shops in Bay Ridge Continue Because Justin Brannan Failed to Take Action

Today, August 27th, Justin Brannan tweeted almost the same thing he did on July 15th about illegal weed shops!

On July 15th, Councilman Brannan wrote that he and Andrew Gounardes were going to work with the DA, the NYPD and “get creative.”

Brannan thinks no one notices, but everyone who is concerned about the illegal weed shops in Bay Ridge notices!

Brannan’s “Get Creative” talk sounds good, right? But you need to know this is just rhetoric because Brannan thinks no one is watching him, but we are. (See here)

On April 3rd, Brannan tweeted that he was “getting creative” to shut down the illegal weed shops.

Nothing has happened to the illegal weed shops in Bay Ridge from April to August when Brannan said he was getting creative.

Justin Brannan should have taken action for our community because we know one shop has sold to a 14-year-old. Brannan should have taken action for the businesses who have to exist next to these illegal weed stores. What is it doing to their business?

Whose not opening a business here because of these illegal shops?

Senator Andrew Gounardes should have taken the reigns on this because he voted for legislation, which allowed these illegal businesses to thrive in NYC.

At the end of June, Governor Kathy Hochul said she was closing the illegal shops or fining the landlords of these shops. (Info)

We haven’t seen any shops in Bay Ridge closed permanently since that announcement, nor have we heard of any landlords being fined.

Senator Gounardes should have taken action when the state failed to close the shops in Bay Ridge.

Senator Gouardes doesn’t seem to think the weed shops are a problem – he doesn’t mention it in social media or his newsletters. Gounardes moved his office out of Bay Ridge to a office building on Carroll Street in July. (Info)

Are any of these illegal weed shops that operated in our area paying NYS taxes? Andrew Gounardes should provide our community a list of the shops in Bay Ridge and how much revenue they paid the state. I don’t think most of them are paying!
