Chris McCreight Didn’t Stand Up At a Community Meeting – “He Wasn’t Recognized”

Councilman Brannan was a no-show at Community Board 10’s Meeting.

He said he sent Chris McCreight to speak for him. But McCreight was either too meek or he read the room and decided not to get up and speak.

Senator Andrew Gounardes also attended the meeting, but did not speak. Either politician could have stood up and added a point, Community Board 10 is very welcoming to the politicians. Anyone who signed up could have spoke at the meeting, but they allowed politicians to go first.

Protest in Bay Ridge (Known But Not Announced)

Yesterday barricades were dropped off on 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue too. No one announced a protest or closed streets for today.

Why isn’t Senator Andrew Gounardes sharing this information with the community instead of playing on Twitter talking about George Santos? (See here)

People gathered on Bay Ridge Avenue for the Pro-Palestine rally protest and headed down to 19th Avenue. There are police officers on all over the area.

They have the right to protest and these protests in our community have been predominantly peaceful.

Bay Ridge Cinemas shared these photos of the the diverse group of people protesting:

Residents have the right to know what is happening in their community.

Everyone should have been made aware what streets were being used for the protest, so they know where there is going to be traffic problems and they can plan ahead. It shouldn’t be that just the politician’s staff and family know what’s going on.

On Saturday night, the police were still on 5th Avenue after the protest. Many people were worried that there was a robbery on 5th Avenue so they avoided 5th Avenue. Meaning: businesses on 5th had less customers.

If information was shared, people wouldn’t have been worried.

Plans Filed for Seven Story Homeless Shelter – 4th Avenue & 66th Street in Bay Ridge – SRO

NYC Records are the best source for information. Today ‘s information about the homeless shelter in Bay Ridge is from the Department of Buildings Now website. (See it here)

Search by the property’s address: 6530 – 4th Avenue.

When were politicians and Community Board 10 informed?

On November 29th the plans for the homeless shelter were published on NYC’s website even though the Community Board hasn’t heard the proposal or voted.

The Rockefeller Christmas Street is 80 feet tall. This SRO is almost as big at 72 feet tall.

The Department of Buildings shows that this property was accepted to the Development Hub after a consultation meeting held on May 9th (more than 6 months ago!)

NYC Acris shows that the mortgage was tax exempt in April 2023.

The layout of the homeless shelter is there – cafeteria in the Sub Cellar 1.

The Floors 1-7 are for Congregate Living – Homeless Shelter.

Leaders in Bay Ridge would have shared these plans with the community if they represented the community.

The documents refer to this building as a SRO. A Bay Ridge resident wrote that this was a shelter for homeless veterans and their families…..No this is a SRO – Single Resident Occupancy.

There is no mention of Veterans on any of the documents.

The building qualified for incentives. (More info about this incentive)

Could the placement of a homeless shelter in a community in Brooklyn be this far along without someone approving it?

Anyone telling you that this building is not being build until 2025, doesn’t know what is going on in our community.

There are already complaints about this property:

For the Admin on the Bay Ridge Talk Facebook Page: there is no one “to confirm” this with because Councilman Brannan said he was only aware of this project two weeks ago and Senator Gounardes is silent as usual. NYC’s records = primary source!

Homeless Shelter Location in Bay Ridge 11/30/23

Ten days ago Bay Ridge found out about the homeless shelter from Community Board 10. (Info)

Councilman Brannan “just found out” about the homeless shelter two weeks ago. (Source)

UPDATE: 12/1/23 – Paperwork was filed with the NYC Department of Buildings for a seven story homeless shelter – SRO. (See here)

The developer is already taking down the building. The fence they put up does not look good. And why is there so much garbage there? (This photo was taken today 11/30/23.)

If you believe that leaders in this community only knew about the homeless shelter planned for Bay Ridge for the past two weeks, I have a bridge to sell ya!
