January 4, 2024Two Weeks After An Accident, Brannan Wrote…

Councilman Justin Brannan wrote about a collision on 5th Avenue in December. He ended the social media post by insulting the speeding driver.
Two years ago, Brannan was caught excessively speeding in school zones sixteen times. (NY Post) It’s pointless for him to engage in a discussion about speeding.

January 4, 2024Great Deal at Olives and Pita in Bay Ridge

Stopped by Olives and Pita at 7720 – 3rd Avenue yesterday afternoon.
The board outside of the place had a special. Lee loves their gyro platter with fries, so he was happy!

Louie, the owner of Olives and Pita, shared the ‘A’ grade that they received for their inspection. The place is very clean. From the front counter you can see them preparing the food in the kitchen.

January 3, 2024A Good Neighbor Held Bobby, The Missing Dog

A good person in Dyker Heights saw this beautiful dog walking alone on the street tonight.
That person brought the dog to their home and shared his photo on social media.

Bobby’s owners were looking for him and must have been so relieved to find him! I’m not sure if he is a German Shepherd or a Malinois, but he’s a good looking dog.
Thank God for this good neighbor!

After they took the e-bike, they chased the person down the block and rammed into the person with their moped, so they could steal their cellphone.

All eyes are watching the first Chinese-American NYC Council member for the new Asian District. (See District 43 Map)

Councilwoman Susan Zhuang is showing she’s ready to work!
Zhuang announced a temporary office address at 2015 Stillwell Avenue. This was former Councilman Ari Kagan and Mark Treyger’s office as well.
Susan also introduced her staff:
Our team is ready to serve!

Last January, we saw Senator Iwen Chu shared a staff picture, but failed to set up her office right away. Senator Chu had her staff working at the library a few hours a week. Senator Chu used Peter Abbate’s office, so she should have been able to setup right away.
Councilwoman Zhuang joined the Common Sense Caucus. This group has a lot of Republicans and a few Democrats. Zhuang’s name was already added to their page. (See here)
Introducing the Common Sense Caucus for 2024!
— NYC Council Common Sense Caucus (@NYCCCommonSense) January 3, 2024
Thrilled to welcome two new members: @KristyforNY and @susanzhuangnyc.
We're committed to practical solutions and a brighter future for New York City! pic.twitter.com/VKuMuCVSIZ
Councilwoman Zhuang knows she represents a community that wants to feel safe. Zhuang is showing she won’t be a puppet to her party, but she remains close to the local Democrat group, The Southern Brooklyn Democrats. (See here)
Senator Iwen Chu didn’t tell her community that she voted for the Clean Slate legislation. (See here)

The Clean Slate Legislation will not help NYC unfortunately.
Hopefully, someone will be challenging Iwen Chu at the next election.

Good luck to Councilwoman Zhuang! Hopefully, she can help her community and make some positive changes in Brooklyn.

January 3, 2024Lobo Loco’s Restaurant in Bay Ridge Closed

Lobo Loco’s Mexican Restaurant on 86th Street and 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge closed.
Lobo Loco’s has been open for years, so we were surprised. But their staff and longtime customers knew. Their staff was given notice and they called their regular customers to let them know when their last day open would be.

The Staten Island news website shared that two Lobo Loco’s locations in Staten Island closed in December as well. (Story Here) This isn’t about an “unlucky corner” in Bay Ridge. This is a business completely closing down in NY.

January 3, 2024Bay Ridge Protested Against the Homeless Shelter Planned for 4th Avenue

At noon today, a huge crowd of Bay Ridge residents gathered on 4th Avenue and 66th Street to protest against the planned homeless shelter. See the two videos shared here.
On November 20th, Bay Ridge residents were blindsided by the one sentence announcement about the homeless shelter made by Community Board 10’s manager.
The details of a shelter at 6530 Fourth Ave. in Brooklyn at a future Community Board meeting. pic.twitter.com/NhTT7kP6Gg
— Peter Nooski (@laten_c) November 21, 2023
No politician communicated information about the homeless shelter until after CB 10’s meeting.
Community Board 10 has not shared any further information about this shelter either. This has made many people living near this location very nervous! Why wasn’t information shared at the December meeting?
On the Bay Ridge Talk Facebook page, one man stated that this is a homeless shelter for veterans and their families. The plans on NYC’s website show this is seven floors of congregate living facilities and a cafeteria in the basement. (See plans here) This is not apartments where people can live in dignity with their families. Many homeless people don’t want to stay in shelters because they don’t consider them safe.
