Joe Bove Stepped Down As District Leader

Hooray! Joe Bova stepped down as Democratic District Leader in the new Asian District.

Hopefully, the female District leader, Tori Burhans Kelly will too.

The duo pushed a Queens politician in the newly drawn District 43. Wai Yee was trounced as the people wanted Susan Zhuang. After Wai Yee lost, we didn’t see Bova or Kelly back Zhuang.

Bove and Tori Kelly had one job – to back eligible candidates in the area – not from another borough! In August, when other District Leaders were talking about judges, Kelly and Bove were silent. It’s time for someone new who is interested to have these positions and refresh the area.

If Kelly stays, she may want Peter Abbate to run.

The Asian District should have Asian leaders and district leaders! Jimmy Li will be taking Bove’s position. And hopefully, he will run with a new female district leader.

Seniors – Please Be Careful – Jewelry Thieves

Watch the videos that Ying Tan shared above about robberies in our area. Please share with seniors you know!

A man and woman are driving around Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst preying on senior citizens.

Usually they lure people to their white SUV by asking for directions. They they rob their jewelry. Sometimes the try to convince their victims that they are giving them jewelry (and then steal the victim’s real 14k gold rings and necklaces).

The two police precinct need to do more to secure the area and protect seniors. These are known thieves and it’s the same white SUV every time!

Dead Cats Were Found in Dyker Heights

At least six cats have been found dead in Dyker Heights between 69th and 70th Street from Fort Hamilton Parkway up to 8th Avenue.

If you see anyone trying to harm an animal please call the police department immediately.

Maybe someone put out poison to kill the rats and the cats ate it instead. Let’s hope no one is so cruel to kill neighborhood cats.

A lot of kind people care for outdoor cats – some even have several cats in a colony. If you can bring your cats indoors or to an enclosed backyard, please do so. If your outdoor cat is missing – join this group.

Signs were hung around the area to let people know what happened.

Noncitizens Can Not Vote – Malliotakis (And Others) Won in Court For New York

The Constitution of New York State clearly outlines who can vote in NY. (Page 8 – here)

The reason it is part of the state Constitution is so that it is clear to everyone, especially local leaders! But some must not know the Constitution!

In 2021, Justin Brannan and others in NYC Council voted to give noncitizens the right to vote. (See bill and votes)

NYC Council did not have the right to do that. Thirty-five politicians, including Justin Brannan, thought they could ignore the NYS Constitution that they took an oath to uphold.

When Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis saw their bill, she spoke out against it many times to make everyone aware that the Democrats wanted to give voting rights to noncitizens. When the NYC Council voted in favor of the bill, Malliotakis confidently said, “We’ll see you in court.”

In June 2022, a lower court ruled that noncitizens voting in NYS was unconstitutional. But that wasn’t enough for some people, so they tried appealing it.

Yesterday, the Court of Appeals declared the NYC Council’s bill UNCONSTITUTIONAL. If you are a lawmaker and your bill has been called unconstitutional TWICE, it makes you don’t know what you are doing and you shouldn’t be in office.

Congresswoman Malliotakis (and others) won in court for New York. These politicians passionately fought to ensure our state’s rules are followed.

Malliotakis wrote:

Seven hundred people retweeted Malliotakis’ message on the liberal social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).

This is not the first time Nicole Malliotakis has won in court for New Yorkers. She is a passionate Congresswoman who continues to fight for her community.

*Ironically, the Court of Appeals judge said if the noncitizens can vote, they can also run for mayor!

School of Rock Coming to Bay Ridge on 69th Street – Circles Cafe’s Original Location

The School of Rock Music School will be opening on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 69th Street.

The music school will have lessons for children and adults. (See here) They also have Summer Camp sessions in July. (See here)

This is a good location for parents as CoffeeRx is next door and South Brooklyn Foundry is a few doors down.

The information about this new business came from a strange article about Councilman Justin Brannan teaming up with a realty, Allied Properties. (See here)

The article referred to the real estate firm as a “local firm” so I went to see where they were located because I couldn’t recall seeing an Allied Properties office in the area.

Then I saw this:

How strange that the article left that out! The Nathan’s property and the 5th Avenue location where an elementary school will be built were also owned by Tim Ziss. (Info)

Brannan’s never had a huge interest in music schools in Bay Ridge before. The Bay Ridge School of Music had students play at Carnegie Hall last year and Brannan didn’t pay any attention to the talented students at that school. (Info) The talented kids and that school should have been a highlight of the 3rd Avenue Festival.

Maybe Brannan will go work for Allied Properties when his term is over.

This location was Circles Restaurant’s original location in Bay Ridge for forty years.
