June 1, 2024Update on the Parrot – The Bird Received Water
A Bay Ridge resident named Anne was able to give the parrot at 8711 – 5th Avenue water yesterday! She has limited access and is stopping in with fresh water.
The bird has not been moved yet. The tenants were moving a cat and bird and then something happened and just the cat was moved.
Thank you to all the Brooklyn residents who called for help for the parrot.
I am surprised that the 68th Precinct did not help (yes, I called the precinct). I was surprised Senator Andrew Gounardes did not take action for the bird.
We were surprised that calling 311 didn’t help. Our report and someone else’s were closed and they both said that the police did not see a violation. SMH.

June 1, 2024Councilman Justin Brannan Gaslights Bay Ridge Over Cannabis – Part 2
In a private Facebook group, Councilman Brannan wrote this:
Last year, Brannan said that he and Senator Gounardes were “going to get creative and close illegal cannabis shops.” That didn’t happen. Only one shop was closed and it re-opened.
Senator Gounardes didn’t do anything!
When someone asked Brannan to not put it on 4th Avenue and 86th Street, Brannan responded:

May 31, 2024Exotic Shop on 86th Street Shut Down
On the gate is the sheriff’s notice from May 15th. It says there was unlicensed activity at the shop.
This shop has been open since January 2022. (Info) In January, the store was robbed at gunpoint. (Info)
They had cannabis, pre-rolled cannabis (joints), edibles and other products.

May 31, 20245th Avenue Festival in Bay Ridge – Sunday 6/2
On Sunday, June 2nd, the 5th Avenue Festival will take place from 68th Street to 85th Street from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. It’s a great time to stroll, shop, eat, drink, and enjoy music from some great bands.
A) 5th Avenue – 80th – 85th Street
1) The Brooklyn Gemologist announced that she will be on 5th Avenue and 81st Street.
2) Fundraising for St. Jude at 8125 – 5th Avenue
3) Out of the Blue and Colonial Road will play outside of Mussels & More at 8001 5th Avenue at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
B) 70th – 79th Street and 5th Avenue
1) The main stage is on 5th Avenue and 77th Street
2) The Bean Post at 7525 – 5th Avenue
3) Schnitzel Haus at 7319 – 5th Avenue – They are known for their homemade bratwurst and kielbasa which they are serving from 11am – 5:30pm outside..Live music all afternoon
4) PC’s Bar and Grill at 7215 – 5th Avenue

May 31, 2024Dealerships Parking on the Sidewalk in Bay Ridge
Three years ago, Bay Ridge resident, Carol Langdon was killed as a car pulled out of a dealership. (Info) The Volkswagon dealership told Bay Ridge they would not have vehicles parked on the sidewalk any longer.
Other dealerships, like this BMW dealership on 4th Avenue and 93rd Street are using the sidewalk as their parking lot. (Photo above)
United Jeep dealership on 5th Avenue and 88th Street also parks cars on the sidewalk. (Photo above was taken two weeks ago). Many people don’t appreciate the Jeep SUV blocking the crosswalk.
Bay Ridge, elect leaders who are in the neighborhood and care about people’s safety.

May 30, 2024Painted Rocks Needed for Relay for Life Event

Relay for Life is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society happening in Bay Ridge on June 8th. We have been asked to paint rocks again this year for the treat bags given to cancer survivors who attend. They were so well received and appreciated these past two years.
Please consider painting a few rocks that center on the themes of hope, courage, love, faith or incorporate the colors and symbols of Relay for Life such as the purple ribbons or white daisies.
Comment on this thread or send me a private message to let me know if we can count on you or to coordinate a pick up or drop off. Let’s aim for a soft deadline of June 1 for a goal of 100 rocks so that we have time to get them to event organizers.

May 29, 2024Home Damaged by Fallen Pole. Pole Hit By Car
On Tuesday morning, a DIV drove into a pole on 68th Street and 6th Avenue.
The pole fell into the home and damaged the home and fence. The driver did not go to the hospital.

Around 9:00 am, a person saw a body floating in the water near the Verrazano. (Source)
RIP.
The strange thing is many people are found dead in the water, but no one ever shares or reports who the person was.
