Were Shots Fired in Bay Ridge Tonight?

Around 8:50 pm tonight, a person called 911 and reported that two gunshots were fired from a speeding car on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 86th Street in Bay Ridge.
Hopefully, the sound came from a modified car exhaust and not someone actually shooting a gun. Let’s see if the NYPD or politicians clear this up.

May 3, 2026Now That There’s Good Weather, Shore Road Residents Are Hearing Music AGAIN!

Now that it is Spring, Bay Ridge residents living on Shore Road are hearing music on Saturday and Sunday from around 4:00 pm until almost midnight. Residents described the music as loud percussion music with singing and instrumentation. The music is followed by fireworks and it’s a nuisance.
A couple of year ago, a Bay Ridge resident complained to politicians about the loud music because he and his family couldn’t sleep. When politicians failed to do anything, the resident went to Staten Island and found the music being played at Clifton public parking lot, which is across the water from Shore Road Park.

I wrote about it here:
If you are hearing loud music, contact Council member Kayla Santosuosso. If she doesn’t respond, continue to call or email her office. 718-748-5200 Other numbers: 718-373-0954 and 212-788-7363

May 3, 2026Dixy Chicken and Grill on 5th Avenue Closed

Dixy Chicken at 7504 – 5th Avenue closed. I was surprised so many Ridgites said they will miss this chicken.
The building was sold at the end of February for $1,830,000. It was listed in October for $1,820,000 (so the market is good).

See street closures in NYC: https://shorturl.at/0geZ9
The lower level of the Verrazzano Bridge is being used for this tour. That make Belt Parkway a mess up until that exit (then it’s clear).

May 2, 2026A Ribbon Cutting Isn’t Needed for GrowNYC….It is Needed for Small Businesses in Bay Ridge

Years ago, the Farmer’s Market at the Walgreens parking lot was a great addition to our area. But now many stores are selling organic vegetables. Why are we bringing in sellers from out of the area to compete with our community’s businesses still?
Even a graphic was created for this:

This market has been in the area for many years, so a ribbon cutting wasn’t necessary.
Councilwoman Kayla Santosuosso had nothing to do with its setup. These markets are all over the five boroughs now. And the prices here are not cheap!
Does Kayla Santosuosso think the halal stores in Bay Ridge are not good? We go to Balady all the time and the meat is excellent. We don’t need an outside seller.

Photo: Kayla Santosuosso
Sadly, Kayla Santosuosso has not shown up for one business ribbon-cutting ceremony in our community. The Mom and Pop shops need the publicity.
Santosuosso, a new Mom, failed to mention that a child was seriously hurt on 81st Street this week.
Santosuosso wants to do “politics as usual” in Bay Ridge. She watched Justin Brannan leave the community out of so many things, so she figures she can do the same. Santosusso did a terrible job speaking up for Bay Ridge and didn’t question Tim Ziss’ new building on 92nd Street (with a supermarket), which was approved this week. This property is diagonally across the street from PS 104. What mother would approve a supermarket across the street from a school??? Can you imagine the chaos at dismissal? Ridiculous! Info:
