May 27, 2024Ridgites Call For Help For Parrot in Closed Store
Update: A kind Ridgite was able to get in and give the bird water. He is okay.

This store at 8711 – 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge was closed in April and has a restraining order on the window. Bay Ridge residents noticed a beautiful parrot inside the store.
The owner of the store next to it (Hair and Beauty supply) called 311, but 311 did offer any help because the store was locked for legal reasons.
Bay Ridge residents said the bird does not have water and only has a little bit of food. Someone has even offered to take the bird.

May 26, 2024Gypsy Scammer in Blue SUV Near on Shore Road
A good Bay Ridge neighbor shared that she was leaving Shore Road Dog Park and a blue SUV stopped in the exit. A teenage boy got out of the SUV and said hello. Then he got back in the vehicle and a young woman got out and approached the fence.
She glanced at the Bay Ridge resident’s gold charm and necklace and then held out a thick gold looking chain in her hands. This all happened very quickly.
She spoke from behind the fence and told the Bay Ridge resident that it was a gift for her. The woman told her no thank you and went on her way.

The new sign for NileCare Pharmacy caught my eye as I drove by on 86th Street. It’s nice not to see the for lease sign!
It’s a great location for a drugstore because New York Presbyterian began construction on the medical offices on the corner of 5th Avenue and 86th Street, where TJ Maxx used to be. (See pic and info)
This storefront has been empty for over five years It was a Burger IM for a short time and Kusharista before that. But this spot is best known as the storefront for a well-loved bakery, Your Baker.

May 25, 2024Replacement Gas Tank for Barbecue Closest to Bay Ridge
Where can I get a propane refill or exchange my gas tank for the grill?
Tanks with propane gas are sold in NYC. It’s not legal to fill tanks in NYC, so companies fill them outside of NYC and then exchange tanks with you.
Here’s who is selling it nearby:
- Lowes is the cheapest – $24.00 (includes tax) – this includes your empty tank for exchange (See here) and $74.00 if you don’t have a tank to exchange.
- Home Depot 2970 Cropsey Avenue – it cost $23.93 with your replacement or $70.75 for a full tank without a replacement
- If you’re willing to pay a little more you can get it delivered: http://www.manhattanpropane.com/
What if I don’t want to lose the fresh new tank that came with the new grill? You can dropoff your tank with Liberty Gas at 600 Smith Street in Red Hook to get that tank refilled.
This place used to have the tanks: Alm Plumbing and Heating 8728 – 18th Avenue, but I don’t think they are there any more.
