Community Board 10’s Meeting About Campania Pizzeria’s Outdoor Cafe – September 10th

I don’t know a lot about Campania Pizzeria on the corner of 99th Street and 4th Avenue.
What I can tell you is that they have the best chicken wings in Bay Ridge. They applied for a roadway cafe that is 8 feet wide and 35 feet long. It will hold 14 tables and 28 seats.

Istanblue Kebab House Opened in Bay Ridge
Istanblue Kebab House opened at 7224 – 5th Avenue. They serve Turkish food 718-238-4080. (See menu)
Hazar used to be in this location. Many Ridgites will miss their combo platter. Hazar didn’t tell us they were closing.
People love plates with rice and kebabs:
Not me – I would rather get some lentil or chicken soup and fresh bread.
Good luck to the new owners!
This corner spot used to belong to Hazar Turkish Kebab. They had amazing bread!

The Corner Opens on September 17th-Bay Ridge
Chef Thomas Joseph Perrone and friends are opening The Corner on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 86th Street on Tuesday, September 17th at 11:30 am – stop by for lunch!
People are very excited for this grand opening! Congratulations Chef Perrone and Friends!

Andrew Gounardes’ Goofy Video on Faith Based Housing – Is This What You Want, Bay Ridge?
Senator Andrew Gounardes pushed Brian Cunningham’s Faith Based Housing Bill in the NYS Senate last year. Neither Gounardes or Cunningham moved the bill out of committee.
Today Andrew Gounardes made this goofy video to entertain the Democrats on social media. But whose this bill really benefitting?
Only 71 people bothered watching the video that Gounardes wasted the day shooting.
Why didn’t Andrew Gounardes work on restoring afterschool programs to families in Brooklyn? (See here)
Most people living near a church would be shocked if the church built an auxiliary dwelling next to their home. There are no churches next to the Gounardes’ home, so that’s why Andrew doesn’t care!
We saw Andrew Gounardes promote Get Around Car Sharing in Brooklyn. Gounardes acted as if Get Around was a well-established company that was going to make people safe. (Yes, Gounardes said that here)
People in our community lost parking spots.
Andrew Gounardes never shared that he was working with Get Around! Get Around shared pics! (See here)
Even with free parking all around Brooklyn, Get Around Company folded. Andrew Gounardes does not understand business and should have been a government representative – not a business representative!

The House Next to Shore Hill is For Sale
The house next to Shore Hill Apartments at 51 – 91st Street is for sale. Big changes are coming to that building and it wouldn’t be good to be so close. (Info)
This is a great house because it has two garages!
It’s a beautiful home. (See Here) There’s an Open House on Saturday, September 7, 2024 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM.

Where Did the NYS Funding for Afterschool Go?
When we heard that NYS funding was cut for afterschool, a political guy said, “Look around and you will see a politician announcing that he gave money from NY State to a group. Election season is here.”
Sure enough, the head of the NYS Senate, Mike Gianaris announced that he gave seventy million to religious schools for safety.
That money was awarded in May. (Source)
You don’t see Senator Andrew Gounardes or Senator Iwen Chu standing up for the lost afterschool money. Neither protested in Albany and neither attended the parent’s protest in Bay Ridge!

Some Great News on Afterschool for PS 247
NYC Council Representative, Susan Zhuang was able to get some free afterschool restored for students at PS 247.
While she hasn’t been able to restore all of the seats, she is working on this.
We should see the politicians in our area following Councilwoman Zhuang’s lead. If each politician looked into funding one school, they would be able to restore afterschool for a lot of families in this area of Brooklyn.
I’m surprised Councilman Brannan hasn’t stepped in for PS 185 as it is his alma mater.

Serafin Photography on 77th Street in Bay Ridge
I didn’t know there was a photography studio on 77th Street, off 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge. Serafin Photography did photos for Fort Hamilton High School’s Football Team. (See video here) The blue light and smoke machine is a nice touch.
They also have a back to school mini session deal:
And they do passport photos fast!
