July 21, 2024St. Pat’s 175 Year Anniversary Party on 11/9
On Sunday, October 20th, St. Patrick’s Church will have an anniversary mass with Bishop Brennan.
On Saturday, November 9th, there will be a huge party at Russo’s on the Bay!
They are planning on having bus to bring people to Russo’s from Bay Ridge and back. Reserve your seat by September 15th so they know how many buses they need.

July 20, 2024Amazing Work By TNR Volunteers in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights
There are some amazing people in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights who do TNR. TNR stands for Trap, Neuter and Release. The cat population continues to grow each Spring when street cats are not neutered.
Those doing TNR have to go out early in the morning to trap the cats when they are hungry.
These animal lovers also respond when animals are hurt in our area. Watch this video and see how they are able to get this hurt cat in Bay Ridge:

July 20, 2024Two Children and Two Women Were Killed in Bensonhurst Last Night – One Man in Custody
A 27-year-old man called the police when he found his two children (4 and 5 years old), wife (27 years old) and mother (56 yrs. old) stabbed in their apartment at 1590 West 8th Street near Avenue P on Friday night. (Story here and here)
How awful!
“A domestic dispute was believed to have sparked the violence, police said.” (NY Post) People living in the apartment building told the press that they heard screaming.
The man called 911 around 10:00 pm. The 62nd Precinct Police took the man’s 24-year-old brother, Shahboz Rajabboev, is in custody this morning.
RIP Kamila, Timur, Maftuna and Fayzidva Mavlyuda. Prayers for the husband and family.

July 20, 2024Fourth Rape This Year in the 68th Precinct
On Tuesday, July 9th at 12:00 am, a rape that happened on 14th Avenue and 65th Street was reported to the NYPD. (Crimestats)
This is the second rape in the 68th Precinct in the last 28 days. The last rape was reported to the NYPD on June 24th at 3:00 pm in the area of 85th Street and 3rd Avenue (Rape 1).
A person is guilty of rape in the third degree when one person is less than 17 years old (or the person lacks the ability to consent for some other reason). Rape 3 is a felony.
This is the fourth rape in the 68th Precinct this year, which is less than the number of rapes last year at this time – 6.
NYC is seeing the number of rapes surge across the city. (NY Post) The 72nd Precinct, which is in Sunset Park, was listed as an area of NYC with the highest number of rapes this year:

July 20, 2024Corgi Found in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn – July 20th
This dog has been seen walking alone around Bay Ridge for a few days. Tonight he was caught TWICE.
This corgi was found on 77th Street and Colonial Road first. Bay Ridge neighbors tried to keep the dog safe, as she was on the run.
One resident who was walking their dog went back to their home and got treats, a blanket and a harness for the Corgi. The dog would not allow them to put on a harness. She was skittish and ran off.
Around 3:00 am, the Corgi was captured again near 84th Street & Ridge Blvd by another group of neighbors. The dog was very friendly and thirsty.
The dog had no collar. She was taken to the local precinct and she is not chipped.

I’m glad Bay Ridge has so many dog lovers, who are willing to stop and help a lost dog in the early morning hours of a day!

July 20, 2024RIP Dr. Stephen Zawie – Brooklyn Vet
Dr. Stephen Zawie of Bensonhurst Veterinary Care on 20th Avenue and 74th Street died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 13th.
Dr. Zawie was only 43-years-old. He was known for being a compassionate vet and must have been greeted in Heaven by the many animals that he cared for.
Dr. Zawie was the owner of Bensonhurst Vetinary Care since 2012. They shared a video. (Here)
He opened Greenwood Veterinary Care in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn in 2018. This year he was opening Beach Veterinary Care in Long Beach. (See here or more here)

July 19, 2024Lesya Verba’s Art Installation on 7/20 & 7/21
On Saturday, July 20th from 1:00 – 5:00 pm, Lesya Verba will have an art installation at Wonder Room at 7304 – 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge.
Lesya paints jackets, so this art installation includes many upcycled jackets.

In the photo, a person is down on the street and people are standing around him/her. Hopefully he and she isn’t seriously hurt.

The first Summer Stroll on 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge is tonight starting at 6:00 pm on 82nd Street to Marine Avenue!

July 19, 2024Silver Star Restaurant Closed For Good
Silver Star Restaurant on 18th Avenue and 62nd Street closed – yesterday was their last day. They wrote this message:
Some loyal patrons of the restaurant received phone calls from the staff.
For eight decades, families have loved visiting this sit-down restaurant in Bensonhurst and eating their favorite dishes including Silver Star’s amazing Lo Mein.
The original owner passed away and his son was running the restaurant. The restaurant (not the building) was for sale, (see here) so it may have sold.
The extensive street work in the area and Jin Jin Hong Kong Cafe being across the street must not have helped business. (See their dishes here)
Restaurants with similar types of food:
1) China New Star on Flatbush Avenue. (It’s so good)
2) China Moon on the corner of Cropsey Avenue and 26th Avenue – for take out – not a sit down restaurant. They have good fried rice!
3) New Ruan’s Restaurant at 1955 – 86th Street
