The New Bike Lane in Bay Ridge -> Poly Place

Bay Ridge residents complained about the bike lanes on 7th Avenue.

Will bike lanes help on Poly Place, next to the golf course near Poly Prep School?

As we were driving on Poly Place, we saw this street wasn’t designed correctly because the bus is still pulling into the bus stop on Poly Place.

The bus had to pull in the bike lane to get to the bus stop and then pulled out into the last lane on the left and went to the third lane. It doesn’t seem safe to have the bus stop there.

This is Senator Andrew Gounardes district, but he failed to effectively communicate with the community about the changes in this road.

Two years ago, Andrew Gounardes, Justin Brannan and the Captain of the 68th Precinct said they were going to do vertical parking on this street, but the three men failed to do anything here.

David Carr represents this street in NYC Council now. I contacted him and he said: “The DOT wanted to put one there because they generally favor bike lanes and wanted to put one near the park. The DOT also believe it will make it easier to prevent long term tractor trailer parking.”

Carr has been working on removing the trucks and commercial vehicles on Poly Place, which is better than Brannan and Gounardes holding a meeting and then doing nothing.

Trees Removed Around PS 104 in Bay Ridge

Photo: Tom Hilton

All of the trees around PS 104 on 5th Avenue and 91st Street are gone.

Photo: Tom Hilton

The area looks bare and ugly without the greenery.

PS 104 is having essential work done on the building. In order to waterproof the foundation, they had to have the trees removed. They are also putting in new gas boiler.

Photo: Tom Hilton

Residents noted that the beautiful lilac trees were missing. Thank God there are people in our community who noticed and cared! Hopefully, some lilac trees will be added when they are done.
