November 12, 2024Green Infrastructure Project Coming to Streets in Dyker Heights & Bensonhurst in 2027

Community Board 10 had an environmental meeting tonight. The presentation was about the one hundred million dollar project coming to Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst in 2027. (See the meeting video)

This project map shows that the project is extending from 11th Avenue to Bay Parkway AND from 71st Street to Cropsey Avenue.
This map also shows the project location:

The project is called GKOH15-04 and it’s an infrastructure project for Gravesend Bay.

This project is still in the planning stage. They will have the final design done in December 2026. Construction will start in October 2027 bnd be done by Spring 2031. (Long project!)

What is going to be installed?
PPCP – Precut Porus Concrete Panels that will be used in the gutter of the street. This alleviates ponding (ponding is standing water at the curbline). 8000 linear feet will be done in this area. This will alleviate 3 million gallons of storm water.
The panels look like this:

The city is going to dig up the area next to the curb. Then they will add a frame and a lot of small rocks tightly pushed together. Then these panels are added on top.
They installed it in Borough Park already:
This will allow water to be collected without filling the sewers.
Cars will be able to safely park on this material.

It takes two weeks to a month to install this on a block. The speaker said that they will not close the street or stop traffic when they are working on one side of the street. They will give people notification if they are working in front of your driveway.

This is what it looks like when it is done:

The speaker said he didn’t have the locations, but the map was in the presentation. He told Josephine from CB 10 that he will share the locations tomorrow, so there might be more locations.
How will a lot more water affect the pipes going into people’s homes?.

November 12, 2024Rude Message in Politician’s Window

Everyone at Senator Chu’s office is still receiving a salary, so everyone should be helping the public, including Iwen.
Between now and the end of the year, Chu and her staff could help people and then they can transfer the information to the new representative in the new year. It’s not that hard!

Even Peter Abbate didn’t put up a rude message like that.

November 12, 2024Thirty-Seven Semi Trucks Removed From Around the Golf Course By Councilman David Carr

Thirty-seven semi trucks were removed from Poly Place and around the golf course! (See the 68th Precinct’s photos here)

Gerrymandering Bay Ridge brought us a much better Councilman from Staten Island. Councilman David Carr represents Poly Place. For years, Councilman Brannan and Senator Gounardes couldn’t solve the problem of the illegally parked commercial vehicles around the park.
Councilman Carr also comes to Brooklyn every month and hears residents concerns. Follow David Carr on Facebook here to see when he will be in Brooklyn next.
