Speed Camera Removed From Brooklyn Street

Photos: Anna Maria M.

Speed cameras were placed on the corner of Avenue T and West 12th Street.

Now the cameras have been removed. Unfortunately, the properties on the corner get damaged by people speeding into their fence.

Meet Steve Chan, He’s Running for NYS Senate

Meet Steve Chan on Thursday, September 26th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on 18th Avenue and 69th Street.

If you are looking for a safer community, vote for Steve Chan. I like this guy because he is down-to-earth and in videos of the 86th Street Protest, he’s the guy in the back who is always cleaning up the area.

Andrew Gounardes Has Not Helped Animals – Don’t Be Fooled By This Politician & His Pictures!

New York State politicians are not voting on any bills in Albany until January 2025.

Today, Andrew Gouanardes said he is behind the Paws Act. Assemblyman named Tony Simone introduced the bill in July. If Gounardes was interested in the bill, he would have joined the bill in July or early August. (See bill)

Andrew Gounardes has not assisted animals in Bay Ridge or introduced legislation to protect them. It’s election season so he wants you to see the photos and be fooled.

1) Senator Andrew Gounardes did not help when squatters ran a puppy mill on Bergen Place (Source). The residents on Bergen Place asked Brannan, Gounardes and the NYPD for help. Then they went to the news to get help for the animals. They had a rally and the squatter moved away. The man moved out of the neighborhood, but the nightmare for dogs and the new landlord continued. (See the video)

*After the puppy mill on Bergen Placed happened, Bay Ridge animal activists called for change, but Senator Andrew Gounardes did not take any action or introduce new bills for animals.

2) In 2019, NYC entered into a mega-contract with Animal Control and Care that lasts for 34 years. (See here) Animal Care and Control, also known as ACC is not a no-kill shelter, like Sean Casey Animal Rescue. Dogs and cats who are not adopted fast enough are killed. (This video is awful) Councilman Justin Brannan was head of NYC Contracts for NYC Council and Brannan didn’t share this contract, speak out against it or write any articles about it. Andrew Gounardes was silent. (See new ACC shelter)

3) Animal activists asked Senator Gounardes to co-sponsor: The Shelter Animal Rescue Act (SARA). This bill would have allowed the release of a shelter animal on a euthanized list to a rescue group that requested it. Andrew Gounardes refused to co-sponsor the bill. You can see Gounardes never signed onto the bill. (See here)

4) In June, a parrot was stuck in a storefront in Bay Ridge. The sheriff shut down the illegal cannabis shop where the bird was located. I asked Senator Gounardes to help get the bird out. Andrew Gounardes did not lift a finger to help get the bird out of the building (but a great Ridgite saved the bird) (Story here)

5) In March 2020, Frank Delcolvenaere was killed while walking his dog, Stormy in Bay Ridge. Stormy was injured and ran home to his family. Senator Andrew Gounardes failed to introduce any legislation in Frank’s name. (Story)

6) Recently a tragic incident happened to a Bay Ridge pet. Only one politician’s staffer stood with the owner (Alec Brook-Krasny).

On Thursday, September 26th, Andrew Gounardes will be on the radio 99.5 FM at 5:00 pm to talk Carlos Menchaca about this bill. Menchaca was the Councilman that used to represent Sunset Park.

Who will call into the show and call out Gounardes for not supporting animals in our community for years? To reach the studio during the show: 212-209-2877.

Please vote against Andrew Gounardes. Gounardes has been in office for six years and he has failed to help animals in the community. This move during election season is pathetic!
