Launch Trampoline Park on 86th Street in Bay Ridge Closed

Launch Trampoline Park at 531 – 86th Street in Bay Ridge closed. This is the business that opened at the former Modell’s location.
Launch announced their closure on their social media account and then deleted their account, so Bay Ridge residents are questioning what happened.
It’s disappointing to see this closure as Launch opened in May 2025 after many months of setting up.
Some parents in Bay Ridge paid for memberships at Launch, so they weren’t happy.
Some parents wanted to save the business and reached out to Council member Kayla Santosuosso to see if there was anything that could be done. Santosuosso said unpaid rent was the problem:

This building is owned by Tim Ziss. In February, Crains reported that Ziss sued Sammy Alsidi, the owner of Launch, for more than $300,000 in allegedly unpaid rent. Alsidi argued that construction delays and problems with the project justified withholding rent. See article:

August 23, 2026RIP Bay Ridge Man – How Did a Fire Start In The Deceased Man’s Apartment?

Early Sunday morning around 1:00 am, a man in his 70’s was found dead in his apartment on the 6th floor at 9949 Shore Road in Bay Ridge. He lived alone. News: https://abc7ny.com/post/fire-tears-brooklyn-apartment-hours-man-found-dead-bay-ridge/19727595
The police entered the man’s apartment through the window and discovered his body. On Saturday, the people in this apartment building smelled the decomposing body and then contacted the police. The police didn’t know how long the man was deceased.
The NYPD shared that the man died of natural causes.
A fire started in the man’s apartment around 1:00 am before the medical examiner arrived. Eighty firefighters came to put out the fire. Six apartments in the building were damaged by the water used to put out the fire.
When someone dies, the police secure the apartment and wait at the apartment until the body has been picked up by the medical examiner. A fire shouldn’t have been able to be started in the apartment because the NYPD should have been there.

May the man rest in peace. Prayers for his family and friends.

August 20, 2026Tom Stanten Wants to Help Bay Ridge. He’s Running For Bay Ridge’s NYS Senate Seat

Tom Stanten has challenged Andrew Gounardes for the NYS Senate seat.
Gounardes plays on social media, but he is not responsive to problems in our community.
Stanten wrote: “We need faster, smarter construction on our sidewalks. Improving pedestrian sidewalks is important, but construction sites shouldn’t sit unfinished for days while inconveniencing the community. We especially need to think about older adults, families with strollers, and people with disabilities. At this location, a temporary pedestrian ramp was placed directly over a sewer grate. What happens when the wheels of a stroller, walker, or wheelchair get caught? What about someone who struggles to climb the temporary ramp and could fall? We can improve our sidewalks without creating new safety hazards. Get the work done safely, get it done right, and get it done on time.“
Tom Stanten sees the garbage can problem still exists in Bay Ridge, even though Kayla Santosuosso wrote that she took care of it months ago. Notice Tom doesn’t play politics and mention Santosuosso. He just wants to deal with the problem:
Are we done with professional politicians, who are playing with lobbyists and not taking care of the community? We have watched lobbyists and developers win our community over and over!
Let’s gooooo Bay Ridge!
