January 26, 2025Bay Ridge Had More Crashes and Injuries in 2023 and 2024, Say the Truth Andrew Gounardes!

Bay Ridge, we all know that our streets are less safe. Senator Gounardes knows that no one is looking at the data, so he doesn’t share it.
The NYC Crashmap shows that there were more crashes and injuries in Community Board 10’s District in 2023 and then again in 2024.
(See map for Community Board 10 here – adjust on dates on the right)

2024: 6 people died. 686 injuries. 502 total crashes.

2023 – 9 people died. 555 injuries. 431 total crashes.

2022 – 3 people died. 525 injuries. 404 total crashes.

2021 – 6 people died. 522 injuries. 426 total crashes.

The Pandemic Year: 2020 – 1 person died. 476 injuries. 361 crashes.

Speed cameras aren’t helping us in Bay Ridge. Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan were lobbied over these cameras.

In August 2022 when American Traffic Solutions renewed their contract, Andrew Gounardes accepted $2,500 from American Traffic Solutions. In 2023, more than three times the people died on our streets.

In 2020, Gounardes accepted $4000 from American Traffic Solutions:

Politicians in our area no longer care about deaths on our street. Remember when street activists and politicians held a vigil for those who died on the street? They don’t do them any longer.
Now Andrew Gounardes doesn’t even say their name unless residents mention it to him, as Annemarie Weisner’s neighbors did. (See here) When Aihong Qu died this Summer on 7th Avenue, no one even said her name. (Info)
The Summer before (July 2023), the woman that was killed on 4th Avenue was never named. (Info)
In 2022, state politicians used the map below to boast on social media about how their streets improved. Our area is named on top because there were more than 10 fatalities. Senator Andrew Gounardes did not share this map. Last year, I asked Senator Gounardes, NYC DOT and street activists for the updated version of this Vision Zero map, yet no one has provide it.

.
Today, NYC Councilwoman Vicki Paladino called out Andrew Gounardes for his new bill. (See here) Gounardes didn’t want to put a speed limiter in Justin Brannan’s or Brad Landers cars, but he has a bill for them this year. Today Gounardes cried that the councilwoman was a troll because she called him out!

Our community is not becoming safer because of the speed cameras as Andrew Gounardes contends. He is not an expert on the streets and he isn’t using the data that is showing the streets in our community have become dangerous!

January 26, 2025Justin Brannan Does Not Support NYC Retirees

Intro 1096 is a New York City Council bill that protects the health insurance coverage of retired city employees. (See the bill) The retirees won in court, but the bill was made so the NYC Mayor can’t push retirees off their healthcare plan again.

Councilman Justin Brannan is not on the bill. The bill was introduced on October 23, 2024, so Brannan has had plenty of time to get on the bill.
How is a politician, who claims to support union workers, not on a bill to guarantee that NYC retirees keep the healthcare that was promised to them?
As the head of the NYC Finance Committee, Councilman Brannan should be a co-sponsor of the bill. Brannan should be rallying his NYC Council friends to get on the bill because Brannan said that NYC has plenty of money.
In 2023, we saw Councilman Brannan fail to put support behind Intro 1099 until retirees in our community raised their voices on Facebook together and then Brannan got onboard.
When Brannan signed onto the bill, he wrote this:

Bay Ridge retirees, can also call Brannan’s office: 718-748-5200. We will see his name be highlighted in green if/when he does. (See here)
Brannan was not an original supported of 1099 until Bay Ridge residents called him to get on the bill.

January 26, 2025Train Stolen for a Joy Ride on Saturday

Six people stole a empty R train in at a train yard at 71st Street in Queens at 10:00 pm on Saturday. (See here) They were riding around and later returned the train to a nearby location. The MTA workers noticed the train was moved and called the police. (Source)
Why didn’t the towers or the trainmaster notice them and stop the train?
The joy riders posted their video on social media. (Source)

January 26, 2025Dog Attacked By Offleash Pitbull in Bay Ridge

Quinn, the dog above ran away after being attacked by an pitbull, who was off leash. Quinn took off running down 88th Street and Colonial Road to Shore Road & 88th Street.
A nice person found Quinn and the reunion with Quinn’s family will happen today.

It’s time for the community talk about the pitbull that is walking around without a leash. Yesterday, Ridgites saw the pitbull was offleash and a great distance from its owner. Why is he walking offleash?

Walgreens on 3rd Avenue and 95th Street is temporarily closed.
Today, shoppers were inside when water began leaking from the ceiling near the front entrance. The people could not leave right away or they would have been soaked. Firetrucks were outside of the store after that.
