May 17, 2025EvGo Electric Charging Station Coming to 92nd Street and 5th Avenue – Former KFC Spot

An EvGo electric charging station is coming to 92nd Street and 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

Crains New York shared about the KFC building demolition. See:
https://is.gd/aaJbbv

This Kentucky Fried Chicken closed in 2020.

In May 2020, a medical office wanted to use that location. They spoke at a CB 10 meeting about closing an exit on the lot, but they didn’t receive the response they wanted.

In 2022, EVGo bought the property for $5.3 million. In 2023, another company bought the property for $5.6 million, but EVGo will be leasing from them.
While electric car owners and scooter riders will be glad to see the fast charging station, PS 104 parents are not going to be happy about its location across the street from a school because of the increased traffic.
Who in NYC would approve a charging station near a school when there has been plenty of research about EMFs and children?

May 17, 2025RIP Dave Elligers – President of the Friends of Historic New Utrecht

We were sad to hear the news that Dave Elligers, the President of the Friends of Historic New Utrecht died this morning.

Dave died this morning on the cemetery property, as he was opening the shed to work with the volunteers this morning in Bensonhurst.

If you ever went to an event at the New Utrecht Reformed Church on 84th Street and 18th Avenue, you would have met Dave Elliger, a historian, who loved sharing the history of the church. During Liberty Weekend, Elliger would give tours of the Colonial-Era cemetery, while reenactments occurred on the grounds.
RIP Dave. Thanks for taking care of Brooklyn.
