Thanksgiving was fantastic

We made a gorgeous stuffing filled turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes with mini marshmellows, broccoli and cheese, peas and onions and pies.  Lee also made his famouse stuffed grape leaves!

Lee’s family came and we had a great time! 

Everything was delicious and we had a wonderful day. Long, but wonderful.

What I am Thankful for this Year:

Before anything in my life, I am thankful for my relationship with God. For all the chances he has given me. For his inspiration and forgiveness, I am grateful. 

First, I am thankful for my wonderful family and friends. I am one of the luckiest women alive.

Second, I am thankful for my dogs. Life wouldn’t be as sweet without them.

Third, I am thankful to my students and the great school I work at. What a wonderful place to go to every day.

Fourth, I am thankful for  all the soldiers who have exhibited patriotism in protecting our country and fighting for us. I’m sure it must be difficult for so many of these young men and women to be away from their families.

Fifth, I am thankful for Brooklyn. I am thankful for all of those who took a stand and are fighting against Brooklyn’s Bad Guys: Marty Markowitz, Joe Chan, Ratner, etc.  The good always prevail over those who try to lie and steal to win. Brooklyn has always been about people compromising and living together so maybe these guys will get a clue one day.

Finally, I am thankful to all those who read this blog. It’s fun and I have learned so much from y’all.

Thanksgiving is tomorrow

I have all of the ingredients for a great Thanksgiving. I don’t just mean the ingredients for the recipes I will be making, but the gifts that God have given me are evident to me this year. Of course, these figts were always there but I am much more grateful for them.

Lee’s family is coming over and I am excited to have a wonderful holiday!

Nyscate Day 2

I’ve seen a lot of the great social networking sites that are out there. Yet, I am not sure that these sites are right for my students. Of course I want my students to have fun with technology, but not at the cost of their safety. I remember what it felt like to be invinsible and feel like no one could harm me. I know many of my students feel this way as well. The safety they feel in their homes disconnects them from the reality of the harms of the online world. I feel like the number of predators online keep increasing.

So safety first, technology second. Have I gotten old?

Cleaning and Getting Ready

I spent the evening cleaning – polishing furniture mostly! I am excited about Thanksgiving as it is such a wonderful holiday. As I cleaned, I listened to Joel Osteen and I was just filled with so much energy and joy. I swear God speaks to me through the television and radio because that’s the only way he can get to me! Anyway, I have to get to bed. I have a day of work and then a weekend of fun approaching.

God doesn’t want us to worry!

I know that I am blessed, but thank God for outwardly showing me that I am blessed.

I worried about something for three days. All the while, I kept reassuring myself that everything would work out fine. Of course, doubt kept slipping in and kept having to reassure myself that everything would would out. AND IT DID!

So lesson learned: Matthew 6: 25-27

25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Wonderful Weekend!

I had a great weekend. It was beautiful here in Brooklyn and I had a chance to relax and enjoy it. On Saturday, I went shopping with Karen. On Sunday afternoon we got our nails done – soooooooooooo relaxing.

Today, Lee and I relaxed and then I ordered us lunch. Lee went to work in the afternoon and I had a great afternoon of thinking, praying and relaxing.

Artist helps Markowitz & Joe Chan Envision the future of Willoughby Square

When I opened my e-mail this morning, I couldn’t stop laughing at this cartoon that I received from a local Brooklyn artist! I couldn’t figure out who was with Markowitz on the $475,000 Brooklyn trolley, but I looked a bit harder and saw that it is the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership head, Joe Chan. Yes, this is the way Willoughby Square should look.  It would be great to see  227 Duffield Street becomes a museum near the park, just as the Lefferts Historic House is in Prospect House. Downtown would benefit from a museum which shows Brooklyn’s history. Chatel would be a great museum curator as she knows building’s history!

Joe Chan made the cover of the Brooklyn Paper this week. It reads: “There’s a need for ongoing attention and problem solving to happen,” said Chan. “And that’s something that we are, and will be, focusing on.”I agree that Chan and Markowitz need to do some problem solving and pay attention to preserving the history of Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Underground Railroad will be a great stop on the under used, high ticket trolley.Brooklyn’s motto is Een Draght Mackt Maght which translates to In Unity there is Strength. This motto appears on the Brooklyn seal and Brooklyn flag. There is strength in this issue as many Brooklynites are calling for our history to be preserved in 227 Duffield Stree, The Brooklyn Underground Railroad Museum. Can you hear us, Markowitz?

3.  Brooklyn has some great museums to visit: The Brooklyn Museum,the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Coney Island, NY Aquarium, the Underground Railroad

5.   We have the best pizza. If you haven’t had pizza in Brooklyn, you haven’t had good pizza.

6.  We have the best cheesecake too – Juniors Cheesecake. Yes, there is a reason the tiny cheesecake is $30.00. It’s so good!

7.  We are home of Peter Lugar’s Steakhouse. The place is very plain, but the steak is delicious! Reservations taken months in advance. And you have to bring cash – no charge cards taken.

8. We are home to the original Nathans Hot Dog. Each July 4th, there is a hot dog eating contest at Nathans.

9.  Brooklyn is a made of many cultural areas. Most neighborhoods were settled by cultural groups and the stores in the area reflect the culture. So if you hit Bensonhurst, you are bound to find many Italian bakeries.

10.   Brooklynites make goals to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to go to Manhattan.

11.  Brooklynites call Manhattan, “the city.”

12.  Brooklyn is the largest borough in NYC.

13.  I live in Bayridge, Brooklyn and it’s a great place to live!
