Another Early Morning Home Invasion in Brooklyn – 72nd Street and 21st Avenue

Early this morning (before 4:00 am), there was a home invasion on 72nd Street and 21st Avenue in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. It’s a beautiful and well-maintained home.

The wife heard noise from the basement, so the husband went downstairs to investigate.

Two thieves were in their homes and they pepper-sprayed the man. The punched the man. Then the thieves went to their bedroom and stole cash. They fled in a minivan. The thieves were wearing gloves.

Many of you asked if this is the same group as the Dyker group – no it’s notdifferent physical description.

We are glad this couple was not hurt.

After Home Invasion, Dyker Residents Went to the News to Call for the NYPD to Take Action

The home invasion in Dyker Heights this week is getting a lot of attention from the community, but the 68th Precinct police have not given the situation enough attention.

The home owner went to the news to make everyone aware and to call for security for the neighborhood. He has been taking the time to attend meetings and share this story so he can get help for his community.

From the news clip, you can see that they did everything they could to secure their home.

This family (with children) were home and asleep when the thieves entered their home looking for keys to their vehicle. Thank God for his awesome neighbor, who called alerted him about the intruders. We are all lucky this family is alright.

Captain Desaro needs to step up visible patrols in the area so the people can feel safe again (at the CB 10 Meeting this week, a police officer said they were patrolling in unmarked vehicles).

If you are interested in talking about safety, there is a meeting on Wednesday night, April 16th.

Wheels Stolen on Bay Ridge Ave. & 17th Ave

It’s still awful to see thieves stealing tires in our community. We are sorry our neighbor had to walk up to their Toyota Corolla resting on a tire.

92nd Street Overpass Renamed The Fort Hamilton Veterans Memorial Bridge

Photo: Tom Hilton

Today, a little rain didn’t stop Alec Brooks-Krasny and Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton from having a ceremony to rename the 92nd Street overpass to The Fort Hamilton Veterans Memorial Bridge in honor of the veterans who have served in our area.

Due to gerrymandered districts, Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton represents part of Bay Ridge.

Assemblyman Lester Chan and Michael Tannousis were co-sponsors of Alec Brooks-Krasny’s bill 6287C. See here:

Teen Groped at Telecommunications High School in Bay Ridge. Man Arrested.

Today, a 16-year-old student at Telecommunications High School at 350 67th Street in Bay Ridge was groped by a 45-year-old stranger, who entered the school early this morning.

A teacher at the high school saw this happen and quickly took action. A local paper says the man was only in the vestibule. Why the did the security at Telecommunications allow a man in to be in the school?

The police arrested the man at 10:30 and charged him. The NY Post was the only paper to share this story: https://is.gd/Y5f6eH

Senator Andrew Gounardes and Councilman Brannan failed to share this with the community. The politicians either aren’t concerned or don’t know what is going on.

We need new politicians who care if a young woman was touched by a man, while she is supposed to be safe at her school.

Dyker Heights Showed Up at Community Board 10’s Police & Public Safety Meeting

The owner of the Dyker Heights home that was invaded by thieves on Sunday was at tonight’s Community Board 10 Meeting. He waited over an hour and twenty minutes to speak. Community Board 10 was talking about liquor and cannabis licenses.

Info on the home invasion: https://is.gd/MfDv7u

The owner of the home that was invaded explained that he has security, lights and locks. He wants the Community Board and the police to take action! We are lucky that this man, his wife and children were not hurt during the home invasion. We may not be so lucky next time.

The neighbors of this home also showed up to say that this home is well lit and they have done their part to secure their home. They need police.

A police officer from 68th Precinct said that there were four robberies that night – in Staten Island, Dyker Heights and (Coney Island). The NYPD believes that this group has been breaking into homes in NJ, Staten Island and Brooklyn where they see luxury vehicles outside and they want to steal the car keys. The officer said he believes it is the same group that broke into the home on Ridge Blvd a few months ago. He encouraged everyone to call 911 and share any videos with the police.

The police officer said that the police are in Dyker Heights in unmarked cars. Residents were looking for the blue and white police cars and there were none.

Captain DeSaro should have made a visible presence in the community this week. The new Captain is not doing enough to make residents feel safe. Residents said that they feel like they are being pushed out because the police will not secure the area.

One resident said that the community should start a fund and get a patrol car for a neighborhood watch.

Finally, one neighbor from Dyker Heights said that three weeks ago, thieves stole the wheels off a vehicle on 83rd Street. Three weeks before that, they store the wheels from her car. Last week, the wheels were stolen off a car on 85th Street in Dyker Heights and then the home invasion happened on that block. This neighbor feels unsafe because the thieves started with stealing wheels and now are doing home invasion.

Indoor Treez – Another Dispensary For Bay Ridge

Tonight, Community Board 10 announced that another pot dispensary called Indoor Treez wants to open at 426 – 86th Streetnext to McDonalds where a lot of teens hang out.

In better times, this location on 86th Street in Bay Ridge was Apple Bank.

Google Maps: The old Apple Bank location on 86th Street

This cannabis dispensary will be open Monday to Sunday 9:00 am to 11:00 pm.

One of the people involved in this business owns a dispensary with the same name in Manhattan for a year. You can see their website and prices: https://www.indoortreez.com

This cannabis shop will have security. At their other shop they use two security guards.

How many legal weed dispensaries does our community need?

When Senator Andrew Gounardes voted to legalize weed, why didn’t Andrew limit the number of dispensaries?
