Valentine’s Day Reminds me How Lucky I am

I love Valentine’s Day. Long ago, Lee and I started to give each other computer equipment on this day. We both love computers so getting new tech gear is fitting.

But that isn’t why I love this day. I am sure many bloggers have sweet lines to write on Valentine’s Day.  I don’t have any of those scripted lines. Lee doesn’t complete me and he’s isn’t my better half.  This is real life and I was complete when I met Lee. But I do love Valentine’s Day because it reminds me how lucky I am to have found Lee.

If you read my blog before, you will see that I refer to Lee as a Saint. We’ve been together for almost 17 years and he loves me well. A friend asked us how many fights we have had since we met. We counted one major and two minor within the first three years of dating……none in the last three years at this house. Often our weekends are spent renovating this house and laughing. There’s a lot we’ve realized in the last three years. He knows that I like to get a lot done and I know that when he goes to nap with the dogs, he’s real tired. Of course, Reggie doesn’t mind sharing his bed with his Pop.

So Lee if you read this far……I am always glad to see you and you always make me smile. You are one of my blessings in life. I love you – it’s that simple.

Sleepy Saturday

My dogs were pretty sleepy today.

But the shot before this one was priceless…..to you it may look like a yawn, but he is really saying: ‘Rock On!”

Little Kitchen Restaurant in Bay Ridge

 little-kitchen-bay-ridge.jpg

We ordered food from Little Kitchen, the new Irish American  next to Kelly’s Bar and across the street from Staples at 94th Street and 5th Avenue. It’s a very small restaurant which is serving terrific food! They are having a grand opening this weekend on Saturday at 3:00 PM

We ordered the fish and chips. The fish and chips included 3 nice size pieces of fish, handcut french fries, cole slaw, tartar sauce, lemon and malt vinegar packets (LOVE them). It reminded me of Park Slope’s Chip Shop fish and chips – delicious.

We also ordered an order of mozzarella sticks. They were good too and the marinara sauce they came with was excellent.

Little Kitchen has a small menu including two types of soups and salads, burgers, pork chops, lemon chicken, steak fajitas and a eight types of hot sandwiches.

They also serve breakfast until 2pm daily.

My Favorite Bloggers

There are two bloggers that I absolutely adore visiting.

First up is Kevin Lee Jacobs blog, A Garden for the House. Kevin is always gardening, even in the winter!

He makes his own bread with a pullman loaf pan.

And Kevin does winter sowing (starts growing his seeds outside in February)

And the other blog I love visiting is Laura’s Decor to Adore Blog. Laura is a decorator and has great taste. I love her posts because they contain items which are a cross between shabby chic and simply elegant….kind of like combining Pottery Barn and Anthropologie.

I love Laura’s spice rack.

And then  she gave her medicine cabinet a makeover.

Laura shares her directions for this pretty lamp here.

Pottery Barn Knockoffs or PB Inspired?

I love, love, love Pottery Barn. When we bought this house, I slowly bought PB furniture for each room. And friends and family usually buy me PB items or give me gift cards for PB.

I love seeing the Pottery Barn inspired posts of bloggers on the web, as well as stores which have a Pottery Barn style….or maybe it’s just they are knocking off that shabby-chic, relaxed style that I’ve come to love.

This morning, I saw this lamp on Decor Steals. Decor Steals also has a lot of other shabby-chic items (but only one per day – see past items they had)

I love Chelsea’s hurricane lamps – see tutorial here.

The Polished Pear sells cute items including this darling lampshade for $17

Erika sells cute pillows on etsy.

Dale’s Wood sells small wood pieces, like this chalkboard with shelf and key hooks which is so charming:

None of the shops mentioned know the Queen of the Click or are in anyway affiliated with me. I am not in any way affiliated with PB either except that I shop there regularly.

RIP Eira Maghuyop

I wish I had the answer to the bullying problem.  I know schools are teaching about it in classes, but kids are still bullying and another beautiful girl has died.

Is a Facebook page going to solve it? http://www.facebook.com/pages/RIP-Eira-Maghuyop-Like-if-your-against-bullying/320184098023912

I wish it was that easy.

I think laws need to be passed so students and parents know how serious this is.

Best Pet Store in Bay Ridge

Bay Ridge has a lot of pet stores, but  none are quite as nice as Paws Truly on 76th and 3rd Avenue.

First, you are met by Seamus, the labradoodle at the door!

He’s a super cute and friendly dog and he even has his own http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002574908533

Anyway, Paws Truly is very nicely setup, has a great selection of pet toys, garments and food. The prices are competitive with large stores such as Petco and PetSmart. And the store owner is super friendly. I always enjoy stopping in and  shopping there.

Paws Truly doesn’t know me and is not affiliated with the Queen of the Click. I just like Seamus and I like to shop there.

Snowing in Brooklyn

I love owning my own home. The only thing I don’t like about home ownership is SNOW. In NYC, if you don’t shovel outside your house, you get ticketed.

best-shovel-ever.jpg

In the Fall, I purchased the Snowboss…..this is the best snow shovel ever! It’s light and moves the snow well. I was done with the whole sidewalk in less than 10 minutes. I bought the Snowboss from Home Depot for around $30 – $35 in the Fall and it was worth every penny!

Snowboss is not in anyway affiliated with me.

Pottery Barn Outlet 75% Off

We took a ride to the Tanger outlet in Riverhead, Long Island. I was looking for something specific, but they didn’t have it at the outlet. I had a great time shopping and I wanted to share my haul because they have some good deals there.

I went to the Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma and West Elm outlet. Normally, I wouldn’t buy many things at West Elm because it is very modern, but I do love their sheets and pillows.

I got these West Elm Sheets (2 sheets and 2 pillowcases) for $22.00 (regularly $69) in a pretty shade of grey. Great for when the nephews stay over.  (they were 60% off the last price)

Pottery Barn Austin Patchwork Quilt (for a queen size bed) regularly $249  now – $49.99 (Woohoo!)

 pottery-barn-austin-quilt.JPG

I have the Bedford Desk, but when I purchased it the top hutch piece (to hold the monitor) was not available. I found it at the outlet for $39.99 (regularly $399)  YEAHHHHHH

And I got a small PB pitcher  – regularly $29 for $12 and then 60% off.  No picture – I’ll take one soon.

From Williams Sonoma, I got a great cutting knife, pickles and barbecue sauce.

If you go to the Tanger outlets, stop at one of the machines and pay $5.00 to get the coupons codes for the outlet. There are several throughout the outlet, but there is one to the left of Williams Sonoma. It looks like a soda machine, but it’s really a coupon book machine.

Anthropologie Love Letter Sheets

I got the ‘Love Letter’ Sheets by Anthropologie from friends for Christmas. The letters were apparently found in a Brooklyn shop and then made into sheets. I love Brooklyn so these appealed to me. I love sheets, reading other people’s letters and I like having reading material before bed.

Always a Team Player

My poor old girl….she puts up with the baby because she’s a good dog. He uses her as a pillow and bites her endlessly.
