Sunday Brunch in Bay Ridge is amazing! Here are the best places I know for brunch:

• Cebu (88th and 3rd Avenue) – great food/good service/reasonably priced – cheap compared to others in Bay Ridge $15) Liked it and would return – great place in Bay Ridge for Brunch because it is consistently good Menu

• The Wicked Monk (95th and 3rd) has a good brunch menu and great service/a bit pricier – nice atmosphere. One brunch drink included with meal.

• Pegasus – it’s no surprise that Pegasus is on this list as the breakfast food is incredible. The problem is that everyone in Bay Ridge knows this and fills the place ALL OF THE TIME so I haven’t been there in a long time. On Sunday, you will have to wait to be seated as people come after mass. I don’t eat omelettes, but friends who do rave about how good they are. I like their wheat pancakes with fruit or french toast with bananas and walnuts. I know the family that owns this place and they are very nice people.

• Greenhouse Cafe – 77th and 3rd – Always good $26 – Menu here  If we have a large group, then we go here as The Greenhouse has plenty of room.

• Hom – great food

• I heard Salud is great, but I haven’t tried it.

• OSullivan’s

We will have a 50/50 raffle and gift baskets to raffle off.Pictures with Santa only $5.00 donation. Bay Parkway and 61 Street parking lot available. Santa will be going to the 10 am mass if your interested in attending mass also.

The Bay Ridge train club cancelled their train show for this year, but promise to be back next year. 

Holiday Lights Around Our Area

• Dyker Heights is known as Dyker Lights from 11th to 13th avenues and 83rd to 86th Street. (See the Lucy Spata, thewoman who started the decorating in this nabe)
• We also wouldn’t miss driving by 310A – 22nd Street (between 6th and 7th Avenue). They have an amazing light show on their home. (See their FB Page here)
• We have also ventured out to the display in Canarsie at: The corner of East 93rd St. and Flatlands Ave.

Fall Garden Party

My laugh lines have deepened from this weekend’s festivities.

Thank you to my family and friends who filled our home with happiness and laughter this weekend. Our people planted hundreds of bulbs in our yard.  There’s nothing better than beautiful Fall weather, gardening and celebrating with the people you love.

Attempted Jumper on the Verrazano Bridge

A middle aged man was rescued from the Verrazano Bridge tonight around 10pm.  Apparently. he was jumping from the bridge because he couldn’t find work. I feel terrible for him and I am glad they were able to save him from the jump.

Once a Catholic Always a Catholic

Often people who lead are very conscious of the things they say because they know that other people are going to follow them. Recently, a local priest in Brooklyn tweeted the words of Cardinal Rodriguez: “Catholics who say they are non-practicing are non-Catholic.”

For days I thought about what he wrote. Does Cardinal Rodriguez realize what he is saying? The Son of God gave his life  for us and Cardinal Rodriguez wants to talk about someone being a non-Catholic. REALLYYYYYY?  Jesus died on the cross for you and I and he wants to discuss if a person falling out of faith is still a Catholic? Why would a person in authority bother to discuss such an unimportant thing?  Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church has been making leaps and bounds on faith by reminding people what is important and what we need to concentrate on. Recently Pope Francis said: “Too often we participate in the globalization of indifference. May we strive instead to live global solidarity.”  and “Our life must be centered on what is essential, on Jesus Christ. Everything else is secondary.”

If you know me now you would probably be surprised to know that I was away from faith/the church for many years. I found my way back because God pursued me for years. Through the guidance of some devoted Christians and Jews , I went back to my church. Many people often ask me why I didn’t join another church.  I always say – Once a Catholic, always a Catholic. Even though no  Catholics led me back to my faith, I stayed with the church I have known all my life.  I responded to the pastor from a local church – carefully and respectfully. On Twitter you only have 140 characters so it’s hard to explain that knowing about God is different than knowing God. For someone in the ministry, knowing God probably came easy and early in life. For a sinner like me, knowing God came through all my questioning and reading of scripture. God can handle the questioning and I believe He want us to question because questioning shows Him we are thinking and desiring to know Him (at least for me it was).

There is a term for Catholics who falls out of their faith – lapsed Catholic……but you are still a Catholic. If you are here reading this post because of a google search, know that  you are still Catholic and you can return to your faith anytime (God’s probably working on leading you back as you probably wouldn’t be here otherwise. You haven’t renounced your faith – you have just wavered or been led away from it.

 A wonderful Pope is now leading our church! I can’t tell you the excitement I feel everytime I see him on television. That never happened to me before.  Pope Francis represents everything you always believed that a  Catholic Church leader should be. Pope Francis’ focus is on the important things – not on silly discussions if someone is still a Catholic or if they aren’t a Catholic.  Recently, Pope Francis said: “The fight against evil is long and difficult. It is essential to pray constantly and to be patient.”  If you are away from your faith – pray and continue to pray….eventually you will be back where you need to be.

What the NYC Election of 2013 Taught Us

Congratulations to all the winners – I voted for every single one. I am thrilled that Gentile will continue as our Councilman.

The Election of 2013 was an interesting one. And of course there’s some lessons to be learned from this election. 

#1  Integrity wins ALL THE TIME. Gentile has integrity and everyone knows it. He deserved this win!

#2  Teen girls take tons of selfies (pictures of themselves for those of you who are older than I am and don’t understand Generation Z). If you are a political candidate, we only need a couple of pictures of you because you are a politician, not a model. If you are losing your hair, it’s turning colors or you only have two pairs of shoes, a  fresh picture is not needed everyday. If you are older than 25 – keep the pictures to a minimum.  I think mayoral Candidate Joe Lhota said it best when he said he doesn’t take selfies.

#3 Use social media wisely. Complaining on twitter shows you handle problems by complaining.

#4 A lot of politicians lie to the public, but it’s worse when they lie to each other. We saw a lot of lies this season.  

#5 If a political party endorses you, they will go out of their way to back you (as the Bay Ridge Democrats did for Gentile). 

#6 Sometimes the best politics in Brooklyn happens in the local establishments. We stopped everywhere on Saturday night to take to people about this election. People aren’t excited to see you in the train station unless you have coffee or water,

#7 If your campaign manager rents a bus with your name on it, rethink your campaign.

#8 If your campaign makes a reggae song for you and you don’t normally sing reggae music. rethink your campaign.

#9 When you run for office against someone who has already won office several times, don’t talk about that  person. Talk about what you can do for the people.  Offer people hope as Bill de Blasio did.

#10 Don’t underestimate the power of a blog! People want to hear about other people’s experiences and frankly I am glad that John Quaglione was defeated by Gentile. Now he knows what it is like contacting him – a waste of time.

We’ve Been Busy!

It’s November. It was just September and school was starting.

And then we heard good news and this past month has flown by so fast.

We spent the weekend looking at property nonstop (no we aren’t moving) ….will share more on that soon.

Halloween was a lot of fun……this is where I should share a photo but I am pretty tired.

We are happy, healthy and in an amazing mode right now. So thankful for all of God’s blessings.

John Quaglione Doesn’t Have the Knowledge or Leadership for Representation in Bay Ridge

John Quaglione is running for City Council against Councilman Vincent Gentile in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bath Beach. John Quaglione does not have the leadership or knowledge needed to be a councilman.

When Quaglione’s home garbage was not picked up last winter, he tweeted a complaint about it instead of calling one of his bosses’ contacts. When my garbage isn’t picked up, I call the Sanitation supervisor on his cell phone. The supervisor gave me his number the first time I contacted him. Quaglione has been at Golden’s office for 10 years and should have a phone full of contacts to help him get his garbage picked up. Yet, he sat on Twitter and complained. The author of this article published the story in February. See here

Last month, Quaglione went to complain on Twitter again and 311 told him how to properly handle the situation.

In the Bay Ridge debate, Quaglione recommended Sal Albanese for NYC Education Chancellor. Albanese is a nice man, but he hasn’t been in the NYC education system in more than a decade. You can see the author of this article questioning Quaglione’s recommendation here.

Tonight on Channel 1 television, Quaglione said he was going to make a task force to deal with problems around our area like the painting of religious statues this summer. Sounds good, right? That task force already exists and Quaglione was not aware of it. Gentile informed him on the show.  See the video of the debate.
