Little Forno Set To Open in Bay Ridge Where Petit Oven Was

Little Forno Restaurant is set to open in Bay Ridge where Petit Oven was at 276 Bay Ridge Avenue. Petit Oven closed this past January.

Petit Oven and Little Forno – same name with a play on words – Petit means little in French. Forno mean oven in Italian. We love the clever name.

But the similarities to the old place don’t stop there. Two women owned Petit Oven – one was a chef and one was a manager. Two men, who are cousins own Little Forno – again, one is a chef and one is a manager. Find out about Stephen Gonzalez and Christopher Salmonese  here.  Welcome to the neighborhood, Little Forno!

Late for the Debate – #CD43

John Quaglione was late for the CD#43 debate. 

Quaglione walked in while Lucretia Regina-Potter was giving her speech.  (see video here – 29:00)  Quaglione wasn’t even gracious enough to wait on the side until Lucretia was done speaking. He played with his cards while she spoke.  

If Quaglione isn’t going to show up on time for a local event, how would he make it to City Hall on time? Maybe Quagione thinks he has the primary in the bag, so he doesn’t have to try. 

At the debate, Quaglione finally spoke out about Charlottesville.  Prior to the debate,  Quglione had not said anything about the Nazi violence, even though he posted on social media regularly. 

Strangely, Quaglione ended his speech by naming Marty Golden’s accomplishments.

Solar Eclipse Happening on Monday, August 21st

On Monday, August 21st there will be a partial eclipse of the sun in New York. For NY, it will not be totally eclipsed, but for Southern States it will be (which would be cool to see it go dark during the day).  This is what you will see.  Why is it a big deal?  They say you won’t see this much again until 2024, but there are more partial eclipses coming up (see here for upcoming eclipses visible in NY).

In New York on August 21st:

Starting time:  1:23 pm  

The most coverage will be seen at: 2:45 pm

Ending time:  4:00 pm

They say you should not look directly at the sun so you need to get glasses or make your own viewer. Here’s the directions that you can use to make a viewer.  

Although you can film the solar eclipse, it is not safe to look at the sun through the camera view finder 

Be aware that many places online are selling fake glasses.  Amazon recalled many of those sold on their site. Be sure that yours fit the requirements with the American Astronomical Society – here

• • • 7 Eleven sells the glasses 2 pairs for $3 (Call your local 7 Eleven because some are getting shipments as late as on Monday morning). Bay Ridge 7 Eleven doesn’t have it, but the one on Ralph Avenue did.

• My neighbor got glasses at Stewarts’ (formerly Hinches) in Bay Ridge. Stewarts’ is on 5th Avenue close to 86th Street. $3.00

Viewing Parties  

There are viewing parties all over the city, but no one has announced a viewing party for Bay Ridge – I’m surprised there wouldn’t be one on the Pier or on the new ferries. 

The New York Hall of Science is having a viewing Party on August 21st.

Dyker Heights Home – Electrical Problem – 83rd and 11th Avenue

Dyker Heights residents get zapped by electricity on 83rd and 11th Avenue. The power line snapped and set a fire. Fire trucks covered the area and residents on 83rd between 10th and 11th lost power and water in their homes.

Chariot from Bay Ridge to Manhattan

Bay Ridge residents are always looking for quicker ways to get to Manhattan. Some have proposed that Chariot create a route from Bay Ridge to Manhattan. Chariot uses fourteen seat Ford vans to transport people in cities. 

Chariot requires that people request this route so they know people need it.  If you are interested in taking this mode of transportation, go here and choose SUPPORT THIS ROUTE to let them know you support it.

Currently, Chariot charges $4 a ride (with discounts for buying packages).  A 30-day unlimited pass costs $119

Nicole Malliotakis – Watch the End of the Video

This video represents Nicole Malliotakis’ leadership. 

Over the weekend, it appeared like Nicole Malliotakis walked in the Dominican Parade. It’s odd there was no one behind her when the video started.  Fast forward past the middle of the video and go to the end of the video – you will see Malliotakis just walks away and just leaves the parade.  She got enough footage so there was no reason to go any further.

It was just a political stunt to make it look like she cared to be at the Dominican parade. Bo Dietl spoke to Malliotakis here about politics at the parade.

Fire at 244 – 73rd Street – Bay Ridge

There was a fire in the first floor apartment of 244 – 73rd Street – Bay Ridge around 7 am this morning, August 15th. Neighbors said one person was screaming for help as they were trapped on the second floor of the six unit building. The news also said someone was trapped on the third floor. Neighbors noted the amount of smoke coming from the top of the building.

Justin Brannan shared this around 7:20 am: “Several people have been injured in a 2-alarm fire at 247 73rd St. Please join me in sending thoughts & prayers to all involved. #BayRidge”  

Eight people were hurt in the fire including five firefighters. Most of the injuries were smoke inhalation.

Thank God for the FDNY and getting everyone out. That’s what is important.  The FDNY really covered the fire with trucks:  8 Engines, 6 Ladders, 4 special units, 6 Battalion Cars, and 5 ambulances.

Dear Nancy Tong – Don’t Step On Another Woman’s Back to Try to Advance.

I wrote about Nancy Tong playing politics when I saw she discussed bill A07352 that the New York Assembly voted on in June and Nancy discussed in late July.

It’s not just that Nancy Tong played politics, it’s more than that. Tong stepped on Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou who sponsored the bill in the Assembly. Tong thought she would catapult off this issue for the Asian Community.  I hadn’t seen that part of the game until now. Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou the first Asian-American to represent Chinatown or any part of Manhattan in the state legislature.  It’s easy to see Yuh-Line Niou would never create a bill to harm the Asian community. 

Bill Colton did not speak to Assemblywoman Niou about his (and Nancy’s) concerns over her bill.  How do I know?  I asked Assemblywoman Niou if Bill Colton had contacted her with his concerns. She said, “Nope.” (See below). 

Are the concerns valid? Absolutely!  Everything about a bill and it’s impact on society should be discussed. Yet, it wasn’t because Bill Colton failed to do his job.

Nancy Tong doesn’t care who she steps on to try to get publicity from the papers and with the Asian community. This is publicity that has been falsely earned and is shameful. Tryeger and Colton don’t care who they step on to play politics, but Nancy Tong should have recognized this game a long time ago. Tong has worked for these men for years, so she knows their MO.

If  Nancy Tong really wanted to protect the Asian Community, she would have e-mailed Assemblywoman Niou with her concerns.  At the very least, Nancy Tong would have spoken to Assemblywoman Pam Harris. Harris voted YES on this bill. I don’t believe she would if Tong had spoken to her. Assemblywoman Harris is a member of the same political club as Tong and endorsed Tong, so Tong doesn’t have any reason for not speaking with her.

The Assembly vote happened on June 20, 2017. Sometime in late July, Tong stood up at the meeting with Treyger and Colton sitting at her sides and told the club about her objections to the bill.  If this was an authentic concern, Tong would have spoken to her club before the June vote. She would have asked for their support in getting the information to the news and constituents.

Colton and Treyger have been in the game for years. They have no problem stepping on Assemblywoman Niou. Can you imagine having to work with Bill Colton who isn’t forthright and plays politics like this?  AS A WOMAN, NANCY TONG SHOULD NOT HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THIS GAME.

Nancy Tong is running to be my Council woman and she doesn’t even live in the area. If she wanted to be a Councilwoman, she should be running against Treyger because that’s where she lives in that district. This is not the first time I have seen Nancy Tong play politics with Asians who have been interested in representing their community. In 2016, Tong did not welcome Billy Thai, or Warren Chan, even though she knew Chan was not playing politics and had a real concern for his community. She is the “Revenge Candidate” of this election because her club members promised to spite another candidate.
