August 27, 2017RIP Edwina Faith Golas – Bay Ridge Woman died in a Fire Last Night
There was a serious fire in an apartment building at 16 – 94th Street near Shore Road and the news reported that a woman died. Edwina Faith Golas (pic here) was a 66 year old woman living on the third floor of the apartment building. Edwin was a retired flight attendant and was currently battling cancer. On August 27th, the fire department said a cigarette caused the fire – no foul play.
Firefighters were able to rescue and revive Edwina’s cat – see here. A sweet neighbor brought the cat to the vet. Update: Edwina opened two cats and one has not been found. Neighbors searched for the cat in the apartment and surrounding area. Neighbors were concerned that the contents of her apartment was on the street (see here).
Neighbors said Edwina had a unique and fun sense of fashion and being a good, kind neighbor. She made other people happy.

Update: Deals at Fairytale Island
Fairytale Island is coming to Bay Ridge! Fairytale Island Playground is going to be at 7110 – 3rd Avenue ~ 646-667-9096. It is for children up to eight years old. This place was formerly The Ridge and before that, Cafe Remy (and if you are old enough, TJ Bentley’s). It’s a pretty large storefront so it should be very nice. They have job openings for baristas – see here
It’s an indoor playground and cafe for children 1-12 years old. The playground will consist of climbing rock walls, slides, a ball pit, sandbox (no sand – brown small plastic pellets), trampoline, two slides and a pretend supermarket play area. To the left of the play area is a side room for birthday parties. They also have a private and not private birthday parties – info here
Coffee, smoothie and desserts will be sold for the parents.
Cost – It opens on October 28th. The cost is $18 a child for the whole day (no in and out). Three or more children discount – $15 a child.
On October 28th, the cost is $10 a child if you are on Facebook with them – $13 if you are not.
In November at the Grand Opening, it will be $15 a child if you also login and like their FB page.

Boys and girls ages 4 – 14 can register at FIAO’s Office from 9AM to 5PM Monday – Friday.
FIAO 7403 18th Avenue – Brooklyn. 718-259-2828. This is not free – $150 donation to join (this isn’t on the flyer).
Also there is registration from 10AM – 12PM on Sunday, September 10, 17 & 24 at Verrazano Drier Offerman Outdoor Field located at Shore Parkway & Bay 49th St.
