Andrew Gournardes is Running for NY Senate!
Andrew Gounardes announced that he is running for the NYS Senate seat for Bay Ridge. Currently, Senator Golden is holding that seat. Golden is making bills his cronies, such as giving huge tax breaks to developers. It’s time for Marty to go!
Gounardes said, “For far too long, politics in our state has valued big-money interests over working-class families, leaving us with underfunded schools, a failing transit system and worse. It’s time we put a stop to that.”
Andrew Gounardes is an attorney for Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams.
I’ve followed Gounardes for awhile and one thing I have noticed about him is he is consistently on the right side of situations. He gave a speech about serving others that was very inspiring. I love seeing what a politician does before they are running for office. Gounardes is authentic and we need him!

- Organized and formed the “Concerned R Train Riders”
- Wrote and passed legislation to combat dangerous home conversions, and he continues to work towards helping those who are displaced from unsafe living conditions.
- Organized Bay Ridge Advocates for Keeping Everyone Safe (B.R.A.K.E.S.) successfully pressured Albany lawmakers to allow speed cameras in school zones.
- Pro bono legal counsel for the Bay Ridge Storefront Art Walk (S.A.W.)……..I didn’t know this….so nice!

November 20, 2017Why is Nancy Tong Late to the Party AGAIN?
Nancy Tong is complaining about a law that was passed by NYC Council to stop illegal home conversions. (story by Kadia Goba) The new law is here.
Why is she doing this now?
Tong is connected to Mark Treyger who was one of the sponsors of the bill. Why didn’t Tong go to Treyger when the bill was written (in 2016) or when the bill was passed in May 2017 (incidently the bill passed with a vote of 49 to 0) or even when the bill took affect on September 1, 2017? Why is Tong complaining about the law now when she could just call her friend, Mark Treyger and tell him to change the law to support the people.
The bill written by Councilman Gentile fines landlords of illegally converted homes. Warren Chan stepped forward with legitimate concerns about this in July 2016. Chan and Gentile spoke and then Chan even supported Gentile’s bill. In 2016, Tong did not step up and support Warren Chan as Chan and his friend were running against Treyger and Colton. Tong was actually rude to him.
I’ve seen Ms. Nancy “Come Late to the Party” Tong complain about a bill after it passed before. Tong works for Colton and Bill Colton did not speak up about the bill to Yuh-Line Niou. I realized Nancy Tong was playing politics, so I asked Assemblywoman Niou if Colton spoke to her and she said no.
What’s Nancy Tong’s new angle? What position is she seeking that she needs to make this statement so late?

November 18, 2017Handmaids Meet Congressman Donovan in Bay Ridge
Congressman Dan Donovan had a coffee meetup today from 2 – 4 pm in Bay Ridge. Donovan was greeted by the Handmaids Resistance at Fort Hamilton High School.
Why are these women dressed as handmaids and wearing the white bonnet and red cape? Women’s rights activists have been protesting elected representatives wearing white bonnets and red cloaks (See more here)
During today’s coffee meetup with Donovan, he tried to sound endearing to Bay Ridge residents and told them their advocacy worked. The topic of net neutrality came up and Donovan may or may not understand it. Apparently, Donovan was also asked about this last week at a meetup, so he may be playing dumb because a pol won’t go to another meeting without knowing the answer, would he? See here
At the end of the meeting, Donovan booked. Most politicians will linger at the end of a meeting and talk to residents individually (well Vinnie Gentile will). Donovan has a habit of ending a meeting (even an online meeting he will end at the exact ending time and not take any more questions. It comes off as uncaring and cold. Fight Back Bay Ridge wrote:
Fight Back Bay Ridge stood up to another elected representative who forgot he represents people in Bay Ridge. This is not the first time Donovan has been met by the Handmaids. On October 28th, Fight Back Bay Ridge Handmaidens protested Donovan and recorded their meeting. In the video, Donovan reads their message and looks ridiculous. The video has been watched by over 10,000 people.
Last Spring, Donovan refused to have a Town Hall Meeting in Bay Ridge. Fight Back Bay Ridge held a Town Hall and invited Donovan, but he didn’t show up.
This Fall, Michael Grimm announced he is returning to politics and will be was running against Donovan. Now Donovan wants to drink coffee with Bay Ridge.

Councilman-elect Justin Brannan is off to a good start. He put together a diverse transition team. Interestingly Republicans/Conservatives are on it too – see Kadia Gobia’s article. He was also seen after attending NYC Council school this week.

Victor Conde stepped in to control the situation. See the hero in action in this video. Conde made sure the man got off the train on the next stop. See here
Saia had difficulty getting help from the police with filing a report.
Derek Smith, 56 years old was arrested on November 19th and charged with assault, menacing and harassment. He was ordered to pay $5,000 bail.

Right after Thanksgiving each each, my grandmother would start decorating her house. I loved that week because each day, we would do a little bit and it just felt so festive.

I was never a fan of her creepy elves, but I put them out because I wanted to get to the cute decorations I loved. Now I have my own set of creepy elves. They aren’t cute like the Elf on the Shelf Elf, but they remind me of a wonderful grandmother. I got most of them from ebay or Ruby Lane
These two groups of elves (the first one is also called knee huggers) I found them on The Vermont Country Store
