Senator Golden Failed to Write a Bill for Bay Ridge
On Thursday, March 26th, Senator Golden made a bill for Margaret Russo. Margaret Russo received the pension she was entitled to – nothing more and nothing less.
When people work somewhere, they know the salary and they know exactly what pension they will get years before they retire. For a state senator to put in bills to change an individual’s pension is not right. Anyone who thinks this is right, believes they are above the law.
Senator Golden is not in charge of getting select people more money for their pensions.
The bill Senator Golden should have written as the State Representative for Bay Ridge and for PS 104: “From here forward: A homeless shelter or any building used as a shelter in NYC must be _____ feet from a school.”
Senator Golden also could have made bills to counter Mayor deBlasio’s $1.1 billion for homeless hotels with:
- A hotel used as a homeless shelter with three complaints for ___________ in one week will not be able to receive NYC vouchers for one month. (Complaints were copied from a website with complaints about a a homeless shelter).
Senator Golden claims the prospective hotel buyer has a hotel in East NY, so Senator Golden should be providing timely legislation to protect PS 104’s school zone from problems that may be present if a hotel were to be built across from a school and used as a homeless shelter.
Neighborhoods shouldn’t be burdened with hotels which want to act as homeless shelters, but don’t want to govern as a homeless shelter (with staff and security).
It’s not hard for someone to write bills for Bay Ridge. Yet, Senator Golden is acting for Bay Ridge because he is writing bills for XYZ and doesn’t see Bay Ridge as a priority.
We also don’t have an Assembly Representative on this side of the community, so Senator Golden should have taken care of this. Nicole Malliotakis is too busy complaining that she needs a raise on television.

April 2, 2018Woohoo Pam Harris Resigned
We are glad to hear the news that Pam Harris has resigned and is no longer our Assemblywoman! She probably realized she needed the time and in her letter to Carl Heastie she wrote: “recent events interfere with my ability to continue to effectively represent my constituents.” Story here.
Why today? The Assembly budget was decided today. Yeah that’s not it. Something just isn’t right here. She would have stepped down when she was arrested and this all came out. No Democrat has asked her to step down. Maybe it’s something for her case? Maybe there is something else going on here.
Harris wasn’t a good assemblywoman. Senator Golden and Harris passed a bill concerning illegal conversions, but the bill was so poorly written, it will help very few people (Senator Golden is an experienced pol and should have spent the time to write the bill). Harris shared that her bill to prevent jetskis near swimmers passed a few days ago. She even missed key votes that were important to her community This was the vote that said people in police custody can not consent to sex – see here. (Also note that Bill Colton was not present for this vote).
Pam Harris stepping down doesn’t end corruption in politics in Brooklyn, because Councilman Mark Treyger funded her and HE didn’t follow up on the money.
Red flags were raised and ignored. TREYGER KNEW. We all knew because the newspapers reported it in 2016 way before the election! Still Treyger, Abbate (source), Hakeem Jeffries, Frank Seddio, Chaim Deutsch, Ari Kagan and Dila Schack (source) all continued to support Harris. Didn’t these politicians read the newspapers? Did they care about Bay Ridge – hell no. They cared about control.
Even after Harris was arrested and indicted, Treger did not call for her to step down. If you are a Council member giving out money, you need to follow up on it. We asked the Council Speaker, Melissa Mark Vivierto and also Scott Stringer’s office to provide records about the money, but neither were able to OR pursued it.
We are glad this area will have a chance for representation. We hope other pols don’t interfere and make stupid endorsements so they can control the area.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE (in order of project progression)
1- Colonial Road 89th Street – 91st Street Starts Monday April 2, 2018 Duration: 3 Days
2- 89th Street between Narrows and Colonial Road (Will start once Colonial Road is complete) Duration: 5 Days
3- Narrows Avenue 89th Street – Shore Road (Will commence following 89th Street work completion) Duration: 3 Weeks (due to manual excavation)
4- Shore Road 91st Street – Narrows Avenue Duration: 5 Days
Temporarily suspended Alternate Side Parking rules in the following areas through mid-May:

April 2, 2018Some Residents are Without Water Bay Ridge
Some residents are turning on their facet in Bay Ridge and getting No Water! The DDC (Department of Design and Construction) are prepping for a large construction project that is suppose to start soon in the area. They are working on Colonial Road between 90th and 89th st. and our water is turned off 8am -4pm Monday to Friday.
Some residents were notified with multiple flyers, but it looks like the DOT employees spread their work area a bit wider than their signs covered and residents on adjacent blocks didn’t know the water would be turned off for a bit today. The DEP is in the area because there is a large construction project that is suppose to start soon and they were doing tests.
The water should be flowing out of the facet soon. Or you can report no water to 311 here
If you have brown water and you live in the area, this is the reason why – Run your tap for awhile until it becomes clear.

April 1, 2018Congressman Donovan’s Family Has Been Dealing with Heroin. WHY HASN’T HE DONE MORE TO FIGHT HEROIN?
Today Dan Donovan said this: “Like so many families in our community, mine has also been dealing with a loved one’s addiction,” said Donovan. (Source)
In December 2015, there was an issue involving the police – see here. Someone reported the situation to the Office of Congressional Ethics because Donovan may have intervened at the police station (see story). Donovan denies interfering and stated: “I sincerely hope that the Office of Congressional Ethics contacts and interviews this person about his or her evidence, including whether they’ve been coaxed or coached and that it’s made public.” (Source) The man mentioned in the story denied any drug use. In October 2016, ten months after the above situation, Staten Island had a particularly harsh week as 9 people died in 10 days from heroin overdoses. Donovan shared about an employee in an article, but he did not say his family was dealing with opioid issues. It was easy for Donovan to remain removed from the problem and say: “Every life lost to the drug epidemic is heartbreaking,” NO – it is not okay to throw out rhetoric when Donovan had the ability to make stronger laws against dealers. Why did it take Dan two years to say: “Like so many families in our community, mine has also been dealing with a loved one’s addiction,” said Donovan. (Source)
In January 2018, even Newsweek reported about Senator Marty Golden blunder, “Opiods aren’t a ghetto drug.” Why did Dan Donovan stay silent?
Today, April 1st, Congressman Donovan ran to the Staten Island Advance to publish his statement of innocence (by the way – it’s Easter Sunday today). For the next few days, Donovan will be on the news or sending out press releases to papers. Why isn’t Dan Donovan as motivated to DO SOMETHING about the drug problem in Staten Island?
In August 2017, there were twenty-nine overdoses in 24 days in Staten Island. Did Dan Donovan declare a state of emergency in Staten Island. Nope. Donovan has done hardly anything to fight the problem of heroin in Staten Island.
Donovan needs to get out of office and and allow Staten Island to have a chance under someone who can take on the heroin problem as a lawmaker!
If we had a congressman who was task-oriented and strengthened the law to go after drug dealers, would Staten Island be in the same position it is in today?
