How Many People in Bay Ridge Is Senator Golden “Too Busy” For?

Earlier today, there was a candidates forum in Bay Ridge.  Senator Golden told Bay Ridge resident, Mallory McMahon that he was TOO BUSY for her. (See Kadia Goba’s video here)

Senator Golden’s  thinks it’s acceptable for a state senator to tell a resident that “he’s too busy.”

WHAT CHANGED ABOUT SENATOR GOLDEN?

Is the arrogant man seen in the video the one that the residents of this community elected years ago?

A kind politician would have been polite and he would have offered a meeting with her right there.  But that’s not who Marty Golden has become.

The real reason Golden didn’t want to meet with McMahon is she questioned why Senator Golden hasn’t fought for the NY State funds that Bay Ridge schools are owed. Senator Golden hasn’t even spoken up about our schools being consistently underfunded.  Every paper in this area should be questioning why Golden hasn’t fought for that funding. But no one mentions it. Marty knows he hasn’t done his job and he doesn’t want McMahon to point it out to him (or anyone else).

McMahon has tried to meet with Golden since February 27th and has received the run around from Golden’s staff (scheduled meetings and cancelled). See here

How many people in Bay Ridge has Marty Golden been “too busy” to speak to because the are not the same political party as Senator Golden? Most people aren’t as persistent or as organized as McMahon and probably let it go after Golden has ignored them a few times.

After the forum, Senator Golden had his staffer attack Mallory on Twitter with a lie that McMahon worked for Gounardes. The staffer has several accounts and goes on the attack with the accounts to make it look like more people are supporting Marty. Marty doesn’t realize that this makes him look worse.

McMahon asks Gournardes to confirm that she doesn’t work for him. He confirms and then get ready for this……..Senator Golden’s wife tweeted Gounardes and McMahon. Yes, Senator Golden’s wife is attacking his opponent online – see here.  Again, this just makes Marty looks worse.  Why? Because Senator Golden, his wife and staff didn’t stoop this low in the last election.   What’s different now?

Mathylde Frontus – Very Impressive – Bay Ridge

Bay Ridge had a chance to hear from Dr. Mathylde Frontus at the Fort Hamilton Senior Center today. Dr. Frontus, a graduate of Harvard University is running to be our Assemblywoman. For decades she has been a leader and community organizer. Now she is running for Assemblywoman for South Brooklyn!

At the Candidate’s Forum today she discussed how Senior Citizens should be given Metrocards because she has seen seniors asking for free swipes in the train stations.  I’m surprised that no other leader has moved on this for our community before this. I am glad to see Dr. Frontus has a vision for helping senior citizens immediately when she gets into office. It seems like such a simple thing – I am surprised no lawmaker from this community has taken care of it.

This is not Dr. Mathylde Frontus’ first time with trying to meet the community’s need. She had done outreach for Veteran’s in Coney Island. Dr. Frontus has made Seniors a priority and has vowed to fight to protect and augment funding for vital senior programs and services such as Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) centers, Senior Citizen Home Owner Exemption (SCHE) and Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE).

Bay Ridge Fashion Designer Launches Popup Shop for the 3rd Avenue Festival

Despina Kotsis, a fashion designer from Bay Ridge will hold her premier popup shop during the Third Avenue Festival on October 14th.

Kotsis started her company, Minx New York in 2017, while she was a student at Fort Hamilton High School.  In June, Teen Vogue featured Minx New York and a bio of the designer. Kotsis’ designs have already caught the eye of celebrities. Nia Vardalos from My Big Fat Greek Wedding recently ordered a hoodie from Kotsis and then shared a picture of her wearing the hoodie!

We love that Kotsis’ designs focus on New York City.

And how she incorporated the cute NYC pigeon into her logo too!

And if you shop for Christmas early, the robot design is perfect for your geek friends.

Items from Kotsis’ Minx New York line will be for sale during the Third Avenue Festival outside of 8702 – 3rd Avenue (near Uncle Louie G’s)
