Jerry Kassar Attacked a Retired NYPD Officer and Resident in The Brooklyn Spectator

Jerry Kassar, Vice Chairman of the NYS Conservative Party and currently chief-of-staff for Senator Marty Golden published a new rant this week in the Brooklyn Spectator (page 20). I complained to the paper before about Jerry’s column because  Jerry failed to disclose his position and because Kassar wrote inaccurate information in favor of his boss before.

Not Much Common Sense This Week Jerry

• Jerry Kassar “forgot” to disclose that he works for Senator Marty Golden. Somehow Jerry doesn’t think that it is important to readers of the paper to know his relationship to the senator. Yet, The Brooklyn Spectator has a responsibility to the community to supply this information as Kassar’s relationship with Senator Golden. While labeling the top of his article as ‘Opinion’ was a step in the right direction, disclosure is still necessary.
  

• Kassar used his article in The Brooklyn Spectator to attack Peter Killian, a former NYPD officer. Killian served as the moderator at the AARP debate at the Senior Center. I have been following politics in this community for many years. I have never heard anyone complain about Killian as the debate moderator. It was noted by the public, that Killian served as the debate moderator for at least 10 years. Senator Marty Golden performed poorly at this debate because residents are aware he isn’t representing this community well.  Kassar’s attack of Killian’s performance was unnecessary and an obvious ploy to help his boss.
  

* Neighbors in Bay Ridge spoke out for Peter Killian because people love him.  Peter Killian was the first NYPD officer in our community to receive a bullet-proof vest from the community!  The Ridge Chorale raised the money to purchase the vest because the police department didn’t have the money. Although I don’t know Killian personally, I have spoken with him at different events in Bay Ridge. He is a true gentleman and kind-hearted man. The Brooklyn Spectator should not have allowed Jerry Kassar to question Killian’s integrity at being a fair and honest moderator, unless that information was checked and could be backed up with another source.

• Interestingly, Kassar wrote that Peter Killian supplied the candidates with the questions for the debate. I often wondered about this, as Senator Golden often goes into the same old rant. Why wouldn’t Senator Golden prepare something new if he had the questions beforehand?
  

• After the prepared questions were over, the debate allowed the audience to ask questions. Mallory McMahon got up to ask a question of the candidate.  Residents got to hear that McMahon tried to contact Senator Golden for months to speak about education and Senator Golden refused to meet with her. (More info about it here) At the debate, Senator Golden showed his true colors to the community by responding to McMahon’s question with, “Mallory I’m too busy for you.”  Senator Golden thought he could arrogantly say that in a small room of people in Bay Ridge. Golden tried to convince the room that it was okay for him to ignore a resident’s question because she wasn’t a Republican, like he is. Senator Golden’s arrogant words vibrated through the community in papers and online. Everyone asked, “What happened to Marty Golden?”  People were surprised that such an arrogant politician is representing them. See the video of the rude Senator here

Did Marty Golden and Jerry Kassar think that all of the audiences’ questions should be supplied to Marty? It appears that Marty doesn’t want Bay Ridge to question him and what he hasn’t done for this community. 

Kassar complained that the questions at the debate were not topics that were related to senior citizens. This event was open to everyone. I would think most seniors in the area would want Bay Ridge schools to receive the proper funding, especially since their grandchildren attend them. Kassar knows Marty didn’t do his job in bringing home the state funds.

Jerry Kassar tried to save his boss’ reputation in The Spectator by attacking Killian and McMahon. Kassar claimed that special treatment was given to McMahon by Killian. Other journalists were present at the debate and can confirm the debate format for the Brooklyn Spectator. McMahon didn’t know the moderator. She was at the debate as a resident who wanted to hear from the candidates. Kassar used the Brooklyn Spectator to attack McMahon because McMahon had spoken out and shown that Marty Golden is not the smiling, helpful politician he once was. Kassar wanted to silence Mallory McMahon’s views.  McMahon’s character should not have been questioned and unchecked in the paper, as she is a respected resident in Bay Ridge.

Last October,  Mike Long threw  Jerry Kassar under the bus for lying during the election season. Ironically, Jerry Kassar didn’t report about that meeting last year in his column in the paper.  Jerry Kassar was the man who signed the paper to execute the placeholder candidate plan. Kassar thinks because the plan was made by a group of men so he shouldn’t  be blamed for executing the plan. Kassar’s column in the paper focuses on politics, yet he made our elections in Bay Ridge, like those in Iran. Everyone should be questioning Jerry Kassar and those involved in the placeholder candidate scheme. (More info here)

The Brooklyn Spectator has a responsibility to print the truth. Jerry Kassar’s column should be cancelled until December as it is election season and Jerry Kassar isn’t able to be impartial as he is a paid employee for Senator Golden. Even online, we found Jerry retweeting posts from a known fake account. Encourage him to open a blog because we look for objectivity in papers. While we understand that the paper is run by a small staff, it is imperative that the truth is printed, especially during election season (other people have pointed this out to the Reporter as well).   If Kassar’s article should continue to run, his article should be fact-checked, as one-sided reporting does not provide this community the ability with accurate information.

Paint a Pumpkin at Norma’s in Bay Ridge – $12

Norma’s Craft Story at 7813 3rd Avenue had this last year too!  You get to go there and make a mess with all of the great craft supplies she has. The kids love it and it’s a nice time to get a coffee and relax too!

Norma’s is open 11:00 am – 7:00 pm  Monday through Friday. On Saturday, they are open from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. Not open on Sunday.

Painting pumpkins is available everyday when they are open EXCEPT Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 1:30 because there is a group using the craft table then.

Gounardes – Brooklyn Old Timers’ Stickball Game

During the Ragamuffin Day Parade every year, a group of Brooklynites  gather and play a game of stickball in on 80th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue (Saint Anselm School’s block) in  Bay Ridge.

Andrew Gounardes shared these pictures today with this caption: “Stopped by the Brooklyn  League 50th Anniversary Game! I hit a solid single, and like my coach always taught me, I hustled to first base before we could get a picture!”

Gounardes has been representing Bay Ridge for years – it’s time to make this attorney our Senator!

CAPTURED on 10/13 MTA Worker Tried to Lure Child – 68th Precinct

Councilman Justin Brannan shared this tweet telling us that the 68th Precinct had the suspect in custody.

The man was near the playground behind Fort Hamilton High School – 89th Street and Colonial Road. He asked two girls (age 9 and 11) for directions and then exposed himself to the girls.
