Bay Ridge for Social Change isn’t Marching on 1/20

Bay Ridge for Social Justice will not have their annual march on Monday, January 20th.  WOW no march!

Instead the group is going to train you and have lunch.  Did BRSJ lose one of their organizers?

As an alternative to the annual march, there will be a day-long community education forum entitled “Who Keeps Us Safe?”      That is not a community-building title for a workshop.  It sounds like the leadership has changed in this organization.  (Seen here)

WOW!  That is far away from the goals of Martin Luther King!  Woo the Bay Ridge for Social Justice wrote that their new training is: “a deep task that requires truly imaginative and transformative thinking, as a step in a multigenerational shift.”    Their dramatic portrayal of the training makes their group take two steps back!

Second, the group Bay Ridge for Social Justice are asking for donations with registration.  Money talks and even the socialist want some moola! So while it’s not required, asking is expecting people to chip in (Registration includes an optional donation. If it is within your means, please consider donating to the event – your donations will pay for space, expertise and childcare).  Why are they not using free space and volunteers for child care?

It’s All in the Wording…….Why Kadia Goba’s Reporting is Important to Us

From those underlined words above, it sounds like the building is being sold from under the store by a greedy landlord.

Stores are closing all over Bay Ridge and people are blaming greedy landlords.

But not so fast…..journalists in this area may cover similar stories, but Kadia Goba, journalist for Bklyner always has a little bit more in her articles. Sometimes her articles are breaking stories that are shared all over social media and other times they are informative articles that help the community.

Here, Kadia Goba wrote:

The owner of the business is the property owner. Why wouldn’t she just say it was time to sell her property and the business?   Property Shark value. The owner has been in Bay Ridge for 20 years. Since she purchased the property, it has increased quite a bit which shows the area is very vibrant!

It’s strange that the owner didn’t just write, “I am selling the building.”

But I am glad we have Kadia Goba reporting on the whole issue!

Melissa McCarthy was in Bay Ridge Today

Update: Woohoo – see the video here

There was a film production crew at 92nd and 4th Avenue across from Harbor Fitness today. We weren’t in Brooklyn, but we received pics and updates all day! (Thank you Bay Ridge)

Melissa McCarthy was filming her new movie, The Kitchen. It’s an action/crime/comedy movie with Tiffany Haddish that takes place in the 1970’s. See here  The movie is due to be released in September 2019. See here for more info

Nunzio-Lucy Hair Salon at 9208 – 4th Avenue was turned into Colleen’s Hair and Nail Salon. Old style garbage cans were placed in front of Subways Sandwich Shop to make it look like the 70’s.

See pics of Melissa McCathy in Bay Ridge here

Tiffany Haddish & Elisabeth Moss Film here

An old city bus, a lot of black garbage bags and the  filming trucks  lined the street around the set.

The Kitchen has filmed in other parts of Brooklyn too including: Sunset Park, Park Slope and Gravesend.

From the Permit notes:  Three actors exit beauty salon. One actress holds an envelope full of cash and places it in her purse.
