Two Brooklyn Neighborhoods Become Friends As Terrible Politicians Try to Silence Communities

While Coney Island and Red Hook are geographically not near each other, the residents from the two communities have met and compared notes.

Both communities have been put in positions to fight for their community because they have terrible politicians representing them!

You can see the casino’s donation on line 3 and Andrew Gounardes’ $5000 donation on line 4:

https://www.transparencyusa.org/ny/committee/verrazzano-victory-alliance-382369

Coney Island wrote this to the Red Hook:

Andrew Gounardes should not be on the Brooklyn Marine Terminal Project. Gounardes should have recused himself because he accepted a lot of donations from a member of the EDC.

Red Hook did a shoutout to Coney Island residents. Councilman Justin Brannan voted to demap the street in Coney Island for the casino. Why didn’t Brannan yell, “Hell no!” to the casino? #Lobbyists

Almost 70% of Brooklyn NYC Council members voted against this measure or chose not to vote. If Brannan had voted against demapping, many other Councilmembers would have as well.

These terrible politicians failed to do their jobs and the people in Coney Island and Red Hook have been fighting for their communities since the Winter. Two votes will happen this Summer, Gounardes and Brannan should have never put these communities in this position!

Our Neighbors Who Do TNR Are Amazing

Photo: Jackie B.

Every Spring, many kittens are born in Bay Ridge. In July, some good people who do TNR (trap, neuter and release) set up traps so they can capture the kittens and mother. They bring the kitties to the vet and take care of them in their homes.

Besides this being time-consuming, they also have to deal with raccoons, who love wet cat food as well.

The Elevator on 95th Street Was a Year Late – Brannan Said They Were Early. Weird.

Today, the politicians went to the 95th Street station to take photos with the new elevator that opened last week. Brannan wrote this:

Strangely, Councilman Justin Brannan thinks the project was done early – no it’s a year late. The Brooklyn Paper wrote in 2023 that the project was expected to be completed in June 2024. See here:

Brannan tagged both of Andrew Gounardes’ accounts, but Gounardes doesn’t correct Brannan. If the project went over a year, then the cost must have exceeded the original budget as well.

Strangely, Senator Gounardes’ took credit for the elevator! The Brooklyn Paper says that Brannan had been requesting the elevator since 2018 – Gounardes wasn’t in office until 2019.

On Instagram, Gounardes acted as if he was responsible for the 86th Street elevator.

The 86th Street elevator was done by Golden or Gentile, as it was complete in July 2020. In 2020, I wrote about it because it was strange that Andrew Gounardes went to take pictures with a project he wasn’t involved in.

The MTA must have set a new completion date for the 95th Street elevator because this graphic from the MTA says it was going to be completed by the first quarter in 2025 (so that would be by March 25, 2025).

Street Renaming for Peter Bushey 7/12/95

Tony shared pictures and video here:

On Saturday, July 12th at 10:00 am, 97th Street and Shore Road in Bay Ridge will be renamed after Peter Bushey.

Peter Bushey was a FDNY Paramedic in Sunset Park and is so deserving of this street renaming!

If you have ever seen a paramedic work in an emergency, whether on your family member or a stranger, you know these are compassionate heroes, who take action for people who are in critical condition. Peter worked as a paramedic for 25 years.

The FDNY honored Peter for serving the people at The World Trade Center as Peter died from a WTC related illness.

Peter was only 52 years old. June 26, 1970 -February 23, 2023

Bay Ridge Kittens for Adoption

?

Meet Hazel and Pippin! They are the smart little kittens!

They were found in a Bay Ridge backyard when a homeowner was renovating. Mama must have been scared away just before a big thunderstorm – a tenant found them crying and all alone.

Justin Brannan’s Opt. Ed. for Mamdani

Justin Brannan’s silly opt eds are always just for Justin Brannan – not for the people. Not once have we seen Brannan make any change from his opt eds. He should stick with calling 311 for community issues.

Since Brannan lost the election a few weeks ago, he probably is seeking a job with Zohran Mamdani, if Mamdani wins the mayoral election.
