David Marcus…I’m Glad He’s Been Wrong So Many Times
I have been following politics long enough to know the players. Today I saw journalist, David Marcus hailing Nicole Malliotakis in his latest piece.
Then I thought WAIT….David Marcus wrote about Malliotakis when she ran for Mayor:
![]()
He thought that Malliotakis running for mayor….and losing was the best thing to happen to NYC?! LOL.
In 2017, Marcus jokingly shared his mayoral poll results below, Malliotakis didn’t come anywhere near de Blasio in the election.
Actual results:
Here’s the real killer though:
Wow was David Marcus wrong.
In 2015, David Marcus wrote in the National Review that the Republican Party shouldn’t chose Dan Donovan to replace Michael Grimm . Marcus said they should choose Malliotakis BECAUSE DONOVAN WAS BAD FOR THE NATIONAL GOP. LOL! Marcus actually gave five reasons why Republicans shouldn’t chose Dan Donovan for Congressman. See here The Republicans united against Malliotakis and chose Donovan. See here
Marcus didn’t realize that the Republicans would rally for Donovan and push Malliotakis aside. Nor could he predict that Donovan would be one of Trump’s boys!
If David Marcus lives in Nicole Malliotakis’ district why is he so out of touch with her as a politician? I live in the gerry-mandered district which Malliotakis represents in Brooklyn. Malliotakis hasn’t done much as a legislator since taking office. Malliotakis hasn’t had an office in Brooklyn since December 2018 when M. Golden was ousted. Yet, Malliotakis’ website still shows the old address of 7408 Fifth Avenue. Malliotakis has done nothing to make herself available to residents (share an office, rent a desk, etc.) Does she expect residents who need help to travel over the bridge to see her?
Even if Marcus doesn’t live here, doesn’t he follow what is going on in the news? If he did, he certainly wouldn’t have released his article in the Federalist, right after Nicole Malliotakis was baffled by a journalist who asked her about the measles outbreak. See here.
I’m not sure why David Marcus is writing such favorable articles for Malliotakis. Is he a friend of Malliotakis or is there some other reason? You will notice that Marcus never discusses Malliotakis’ legislation. There’s so little, it was probably too hard for him to find it.

May 8, 2019Accident in Bay Ridge on 4th Avenue & 80th St
![]()
There was an accident tonight in Bay Ridge around 10:30 pm on 4th Avenue 80th/81st Street. Several cars were involved.
Residents said they saw a car flying down 4th Avenue going through red lights. It hit into another car and a large accident formed. The other car looked badly damaged and the driver and passenger were injured, but are okay.
Residents from nearby streets talked about hearing the accident from their home!
Thankfully, it wasn’t more serious and pedestrians weren’t around. The people in one of the other cars involved spoke out.ed spoke out. We never hear from the victim because the victim is usually seriously hurt or dead.

When a child dies, that’s when people will slow down and this issue will be taking more seriously. Until then, the 68th Precinct continues to ignore people’s request for their presence on our streets.

May 7, 2019What Happens When Developers Have Control……
I write about developers owning politicians regularly because I have seen what happens when developers control an area.
![]()
These homes are in Sunset Park – 30 blocks from Bay Ridge.
The houses used to be uniform; now large homes with commercial property on the first floor are placed in the middle of a block. This isn’t an Avenue – it’s a regular residential street.
![]()
Rezoning killed Sunset Park. Below row houses are being replaced. It looks terrible and no longer feels like the wonderful neighborhood it once was.
![]()
The people in Sunset Park have a lot of heart. They fight, but the developers were given control of the area.
![]()
Bay Ridge doesn’t need developers here because politicians want to get rich.

May 7, 2019Casa Calamari Moves to 85th Street – Now Leo’s
![]()
Leo’s Casa Calamari has moved to 8502 3rd Avenue. 718-921-1900
Leo’s new place replaced Luigi’s Pizza (which posted a sign that they were renovating, but never returned)
![]()
The old Casa Calamari location that everyone knows at 8602 – 3rd Avenue has now closed. But it’s still the same owner and restaurant – on Seamless it is listed as Leo’s Casa Calamari.
![]()
My husband loves the baked macaroni and cheese from Casa Calamari. When I told him this was the same owner he said, “Good, he deserves it, his food is consistently good, delivered hot and he doesn’t nickel and dime customers (no delivery charge on Seamless).”
Good luck at the new place Leo!
This is a great corner to have a business, especially since Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is opening across the avenue and Baci is opening across the street.

May 7, 2019Is Politics Holding Back the Brooklyn Housing Preservation Alliance?
Bob Cassara, head of the Brooklyn Housing Preservation Alliance wrote an article in Bklyner. I would write to Bob, but I have written to him before and he didn’t respond, so I will share here.
On April 1st, Councilman Brannan wrote to the Department of Buildings to investigate homes where illegal conversions may have happened in our area. On April 3rd, Kadia Goba shared Brannan’s letter on the Bklyner site. See here On May 3rd, Cassara wrote to Bklyner because he was tired of the nonsense!
Justin Brannan never followed up or did anything about illegal conversions in Brooklyn. He only wrote the letter to fool people into thinking “something was going to happen.”
