Is Circles Restaurant in Bay Ridge Closed?
Sadly, Circles Restaurant has closed. There is a for rent sign on the restaurant. We hope the owners appear on the avenue somewhere new.
A few months ago, Circles at 6931 – 3rd Avenue (the new location) was closed for a few weeks. The phone message explained that it was due to electrical problems. Then the sign below appeared on the door and we thought Circles was reorganizing into a restaurant with a bakery.

Sadly, it looks like Circles Restaurant decided to close up.

June 6, 2019Eric Adams Does Nothing About Antisemitism
A mailbox in Bay Ridge had the message above. Story here. Notice Eric Adams is not quoted in the article
The Post Office came and brought a new box.
Eric Adams, the Brooklyn Borough President did nothing as usual – not even a Facebook post. On twitter he wrote this worthless message.
![]()
But as usual Adams does NOTHING to ease tensions in communities. Notice he throws it to the Bay Ridge pols to handle. Why should he do anything?
And things continue to get worse.
It’s either Eric Adams doesn’t know what to do OR he realizes he is term-limited and just doesn’t care.

June 6, 2019Thank You Community Board 10
Bike lanes was the topic at Community Board 10’s meeting tonight at St. Anselm. Good turnout Bay Ridge.
I know bike enthusiasts are are disappointed. But they need to be patient because Seventh Avenue is going to have a protected bike lane. Let us see how this looks, works and work out the kinks before we proceed with more bike lanes.
I do appreciate the bike enthusiasts vision and enthusiasm to drive this project. It’s important to include everyone’s ideas in the community. Children really want to ride to school on their bikes. Here’s how Community Board 10 voted:
No bike lane on 3rd Avenue – all voted against it. This is not a good location for a bike lane as there are a lot of double-parked cars here for deliveries. The 3rd Avenue Merchants wrote a letter and asked CB10 to not put a lane here. This Avenue is not wide enough to do a covered bike lane,
Bay Ridge Parkway – most CB 10 members were against having a bike lane here.
84th/85th Street – 2 members were for it – 3 opposed it
Ridge Blvd bike lane – 3 members were for it – 2 opposed it.
I applaud CB 10 and especially the TWO MEMBERS of CB 10 who held strong and spoke out for your neighbors. When I watch their videos, I nod along with every word they say or interject into the meeting.
I am only for covered lanes in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights as there are crazy drivers using our streets.
I don’t want to attend any funerals for teens or see any ghost bikes in our community. Safety is the most important thing.

June 6, 2019Chobana’s Sign is Up in Bay Ridge
July 2019 Update: Chobana is now open!
Chobana Turkish & Mediterranean Cuisine put a sign up on the building that used to be Casa Calamari at 8602 – 3rd Avenue. (Don’t worry Casa Calamari is still here and moved over one block – Leo’s 8502 – 3rd Avenue)
I’m glad to see the building was rented quickly.
Congratulations to the new owners. May they be very successful in Bay Ridge!

June 6, 2019RIP Detective Joe Calabrese
RIP Detective Joseph Calabrese.
The Brooklyn South homicide detective’s body was found in the bushes near Plumb Beach today.(Source)

Last night, Detective Calabrese went to see his wife at Maimonides Hospital between 12:00 and 2:00 am. The news shared that she was in the hospital for a minor surgery and expected to be released the following morning. (Source) “Calabrese’s license plate was captured on a reader on the Belt Parkway going east near the Verrazano Bridge around 2:00 am after leaving Maimonides.” (Source)
Detective Calabrese was not at work on Thursday. His black Cadillac sedan was found empty by a detective near Plumb Beach around 3:00 am. Plumb Beach is five minutes away from his house. See here, here and here.
Over a hundred police officers searched for Detective Calabrese – by land, air and sea. His body was found near Plumb Beach.(Source) The news announced it was a suicide – a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. (Source)
It is very strange that a homicide detective who served his community for 37 years would kill himself.
I hope his co-workers are being looked after as well because this must be very shocking to them.
Prayers for his wife, four children, family and friends. Detective Calabrese’s son also works for the NYPD – at the 67th Precinct. (Source)
