July 19, 2025Scammer With Check on 86th Street and 5th Ave.
A Bay Ridge resident shared how her relative was pulled into a scam for money on 86th Street. She wanted to alert the community because many nice people could get pulled into this.
There are scammers on 86th Street and 5th Avenue. The scammer started to talk to the victim (nice person) near the Starbucks on 86th Street.
A middle-aged man told a sad story to a victim. He said he needed cash and he had a check that would clear. The nice person went to Chse Bank to get him some money. The amount he wanted was $950 (on the check), but the scammer took whatever the victim had, which was less than that.
The Bay Ridge resident received a notification on her phone and she realized that her relative gave out money. They filed a police report They also reported this to Chase Bank.
*Also, there was a lady on 86th Street asking for change for a $20.00 bill and the money didn’t look real. Go to the bank or the store and get change.
Thank you to the Bay Ridge resident who took the time to share the story and help keep your neighbors safe. She encouraged Rigites to speak to your family and especially vulnerable populations (you know the nice people who want to help everyone).

July 19, 2025White Car Hit in Foodtown Parking Lot on Tues.
On Tuesday, a black Chevy Traverse rubbed the white car while pulling out. The driver of the Chevy seemed to have a lot of trouble pulling out of the spot. The driver may not have realized that the white car was damaged.
The woman waiting to get in the black SUV didn’t seem to notice that the SUV made contact with the car.

July 18, 2025Ridgites Were Happy To Be At The Wicked Monk During Summer Stroll
I had to take a picture because it was 6:15 pm and it was packed outside The Wicked Monk on 3rd Avenue and 95th Street.
Fast Forward was playing and people were happy to be celebrating Summer with good friends! Fast Forward kept the great music going all evening – when I came back there was even more people!
The Avenue was not busy at this time because it was so early.
Bar Chuzo was very busy inside. Chadwick’s was alive with great music like The Wicked Monk!

July 18, 2025Police Are Searching for this Thief – Who Robbed a Bay Ridge Resident on 84th Street on 7/4/25
It was reported to police that on Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 12:40 pm, a 71-year-old female victim was entering her apartment building at Anastasia Court on 84th Street and 4th Avenue. This man pretended he was plumber in the area and offered to assist the woman with her walker.
Shortly after the victim entered her apartment, the unidentified individual knocked on her door to inform her that he came to fix her water leak. The individual entered the victim’s apartment and instructed her repeatedly to turn the water faucet on and off. The individual remained in the hallway and removed $230 from the victim’s purse and proceeded to the bedroom, where he also removed jewelry valued at approximately $900.
The unidentified individual then fled the location on foot, traveling southbound on 4 Avenue to parts unknown. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.
The sought individual is described as a male with light complexion, partially bald and heavy build. He was last seen wearing white t-shirt, dark-colored pants and white sneakers.

The Bay Ridge Democrats, a local political club that Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan belong to endorsed Brad Lander for Mayor.
When Brad Lander lost the election, the Bay Ridge Democrat’s Club President, Kayla Santosuosso must have thought it was time to make another endorsement. (Protip: You don’t get to choose again)
Brad Lander’s name and picture were replaced with Zohran Mamdani’s and they posted it to X:
It looks like Zohran Mamdani’s team didn’t like the reused graphic, so they recreated an endorsement graphic from the Bay Ridge Democrats.
