Angelo Venuto Will Be in Atlantic City 10/26

If you have ever been to the 18th Avenue Feast, you know who Angelo Venuto is.

I’ve been to some real old school Italians who had Angelo Venuto sing at their weddings and family parties, so I know they will appreciate this info.

Angelo Venuto will be singing in Atlantic City on Saturday, October 26th.  You can get through Ticketmaster here, but his company is also selling tickets 201-484-9185.

New music from Angelo and his daughter, Maria — here

Ted Cruz Flipped Out at Justin Brannan on Twitter

Who would think that a once presidential-hopeful is now flipping out at Councilman Brannan on Twitter?

On the 4th of July, former football player, Colin Kaepernick quoted Frederick Douglas and posted a video on Twitter.  Kaepernick was trying to make people think about the 4th of July and where our county is right now. See here so you can get the whole feel of the Tweet.

That night, Texas Senator, Ted Cruz saw Kaepernick’s tweet and went crazy responding to Kaepernick – See here.  Cruz felt Kaeeernic didn’t understand Frederick Douglas. He didn’t like that Kaeepernick condensed Douglas’ words and thought he chose words to fit his agenda. Cruz responded with information “to clarify” Douglas’ words and provided a link to Douglas’ speech because he wanted to teach everyone on Twitter.

Then well-informed and respect reporter, Mara Gay shared her disdain for Cruz’ comments.

Cruz went after Gay because she didn’t praise him!

Councilman Brannan made one small comment to Mara Gay about Cruz’ remark.

Then Cruz flipped out at Brannan.

Brannan cleverly shot back:

Brannan was referring to this bill.

This all points to the real problem:  Ted Cruz is bored out of his mind in Texas and he needs to get off Twitter and go have a beer.

RIP Besa Lufo

Besa Lufo was a nine year old, who was found dead in her bedroom at 1119 – 64th Street this morning. (See here) The 911 call from her parent was received at 10:30 am.

Besa Lufo RIP

Around 5:00 am, Besa kissed her father before he left for work.

Channel 1 News reported that the little girl was found on her bed faced down and unconscious this morning. She had no previous medical problems and was a healthy nine-year-old.

Besa’s brother tried to wake her up and cried when he found his sister’s lifeless body in bed.   His mother frantically carried Besa downstairs to a neighbor to do CPR. The neighbor knew Besa was already gone because she had turned blue. (See here) The neighbor told The Post that Besa was bleeding from her mouth and her nose.

EMS tried to revive Besa and brought her to Maimonides Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The news reported that there was no sign of trama.  See here

RIP Besnik Lufo. She’s with God in Heaven now.

A Go Fund Me Account to help with the funeral was set up here.

This little girl was part of the PS 310 school community and there is going to be a lot of students, faculty and staff who will hear this sad news during the Summer or in September. Her friends will be devastated by this news as well. The school made an update here. They wrote:  “Besa was a vibrant, cheerful student who was a friend and leader to all those that knew her. “

Prayers for Besa’s older brother and family who must be in shock from this news. This is the most horrible thing that could happen. Ngushëllimet për familjen dhe Perëndia japin forcë për të përballuar këtë dhimbje.

RCS Turns Away Visitors to the Food Panty

Update: July 29th This food pantry received additional funding from Councilman Brannan NYC Council.

Reaching Out Community Services provides a well-stocked food pantry for this area.  This place is located at 7708 New Utrecht Avenue. The video details that they need to turn people away as they don’t have the funding they need.

NYC Council cut funding to Reaching Out Community Services. $80,000 less from the Brooklyn Councilmen – why?

2019 Funding

2018 Funding

Who was funded this year in place of RCS?  A lot of groups received small amounts, but I noticed this merchants group got funded. How is that possible?

Why would a pantry not get funded when we know there are more homeless now than ever before?  Why would a Merchants group get funded OVER a food pantry?

Corey Johnson, NYC Council Speaker,  heavily funded the Coney Island Alliance….the group sets off fireworks and occasionally has an ice cream party (see here).  Luna Park is a business – how are they qualifying as a 503c when the website to the Coney Island Alliance belongs to LunaPark.com? (See here)    How did Johnson choose funding fireworks over a food pantry?

Something is not right here….Is politics stopping people from being fed? Is there more to this story?

Could People See Fireworks from the 69th Street Pier?

UPDATED: JULY 3, 2024

Can you see the fireworks from the 69th Street Pier in Bay Ridge?

Some years, you could see the Macy’s Fireworks from the 69th Street Pier, but in 2024, the fireworks returned to the Hudson and the barges are too far up, so they say most of Brooklyn will not see them.

Years ago, we went to the pier and people who were at the end of the pier cheered because they saw fireworks from Manhattan.

If you are are further back on the pier or you are on the Shore Road Bike Path, you will see fireworks from across the water in Staten Island or Jersey.

1) You will see amazing fireworks in Coney Island:

Do not take your car to Coney Island or you will just sit in traffic – use the train.

Coney Island Fireworks are at 9:45 pm and are amazing! You can stand anywhere on the Boardwalk from West 10th Street to West 23rd Street to see the show!

2) A rooftop in DUMBO:

a) Fornino rooftop pizzeria on Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park (here)

b) Harriet’s Rooftop at 60 Furman Street – $60 a person (here)

3) Cruise ships are having parties. Tickets are $70 – $250.00 tickets here

**If you are going to one of the piers in Manhattan, go early because they close them off around 6:30 or 7:30 pm (like they do in Manhattan on New Years Eve).

4) Last year, we walked around Dyker Heights for some unofficial fireworks. They put on a good show!

3rd Avenue and 74th Street had the sky lit up in 2023.

5th Avenue in the 80’s in Bay Ridge had a huge display last year

Saint Anselm’s Parking Lot – 82nd Street and 4th Avenue

Dyker Heights – around 82nd and 83rd Street and 13th Avenueamazing fireworks on these two blocks

12th Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue

12th Avenue – from 75th Street to 79th Street

13th Avenue and 71st Street

15th Avenue and 78th Street

79th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues – impressive display

79th Street between 10th and 11th

73rd and Ft. Hamilton – wow in 2023!

Bay 41st Street – huge display
