August 9, 2019C’mon Brannan, Everything Doesn’t Have to Be Free
Councilman Justin Brannan wants the trains to be free on the holidays. How would that matter to most people? Residents who are struggling to make ends meet already have free Metrocards through the Fair Fares Program. Story here
Brannan reasoned that drivers are happy when they don’t have to feed the meter on holidays.
On Sundays, metered parking is also suspended….does he want the train to be free on Sunday too?
Since Brannan is calling for a free train on Christmas Day, then there will need to be a free train on Hanukkah, Eid, Chinese New Year, etc. ! He has to know this, so this story is probably just a way to get in the newspaper this week.
If the MTA is broke and doesn’t have the money to make upgrades, why is NYC Council considering this? How about NYC Council stops giving out money to not-for-profits and uses that money to fix the train?
I wish Justin Brannan and NYC Council would help these people who need help – like make real change, instead of throwing breadcrumbs out to the city.

Yesterday the police were on 5th Avenue and 78th Street. Two men were arrested.
There was a third guy, who ran away and the police chased. We are unsure if he was caught.

We get it…the NYPD is busy, but send a patrol car once a week in each zone so that people know you are present.

August 9, 2019The Hunt is Filming in Brooklyn Today
The Hunt, an Amazon Prime show is being filmed today on 79th Street and New Utrecht Avenue in Brooklyn.
Pacino plays a Nazi Hunter in The Hunt. The movie is about neo-Nazi’s relocating to NYC in 1977 to try to raise the Fourth Reich and the attempt to take them down.
Signs for a different Amazon movie were placed along the Avenue – maybe to throw people off?

August 8, 2019Assemblyman Felix Ortiz is Missing Money
Assemblyman Felix Ortiz is missing 80K and he doesn’t know it. The news reported that money has been taken from January 2012 to January of this year. And Ortiz didn’t know?! See here, here and here.
Ortiz represents Sunset Park and part of Bay Ridge. The news is reporting that his 29-year-old chief of staff has something to do with it.
Strangely, Maruf Alam’s salary decreased from 2017 to 2018.
The Daily News revealed this: Alam received two checks written on the accounts that he oversaw: One for $3,700 in January 2019 and a second for $3,800 in May 2018.
Maruf Alam was released on a $100,000 bond. Alam’s mother had to put up her home in Kensington for the bond (how awful for his Mother to be put through this). He is also referred to as Mitu Alam.
If Alam is found guilty, he could get up to 20 years in jail.
Update: Maruf Alam and Ortiz knew about this since July. Maruf Alam agreed to surrender for a felony offense. (From here)

A woman was hit by a car on 3rd Avenue and 91st Street.
The burping Loudlabs reporter shared that she was okay and was being treated for an arm injury.
